I take a test ride on both the new Bobber Black and Speedmaster. Unfortunately, I failed to record any Bobber footage, but since the Speedmaster is mostly the same, I think this should be okay as a joint video.
Big thanks to Destination Triumph, Washington: www.destinationtriumph.co.uk
As you will see, I have taken a different approach to the walkaround parts in this video. By doing it this way, it should keep the walkaround segment just as informative, but shorter in length. Also I'm less likely to forget any details. This new way does come across less natural, but more professional.
I'm hoping you like it, let me know what you think in the comments.

Its a very sensible ( with a capital S) and beautifully crafted bike- But then that's what Triumph was always all about!! Sold my storm for this 2 months ago.. Bike is waiting in the warehouse with accessories because of this pandemic lock down.. Good one Phil! Keep 'em coming mate!

Nice reviews Phil. I think Triumph are providing some nice touches with their bikes now. It is weird how much difference a change in footpegs and bars makes to your attitude when riding!

Another top review Phil. It's surprising now a set of bars, seat, and a colour change can transform the look.

Blimey, at 6ft 3 I have the opposite problem to you, whilst I can flat foot most bikes, I have trouble with feeling cramped on most bikes, i think most bikes are built for the average height, whatever that is. Nice review, thanks! Paul.

Hi, Phil. Great review as we are now accustomed to. Keep it up. Would you say the Speedmaster is suitable for returning riders? Thanks.
@Phil480

Yes, it certainly is. It does shift but not as wild as a litre sports bike so should be good for a returning rider.

Great review Phil....of both bikes!! Is this a new concept ? Sort of like a BOGOF review??Ha Ha!! Hope they had heated grips, as it looks cold despite the sunshine...I like the new walk around and I'm sure it will feel, and come across more natural the more you do RSM8
@Phil480

Nice review Phil. Apologies if someone else has mentioned it in the comments, but I think the issue you were having with the cruise control is linked to what gear you were on. Most bikes with CC allow you to engage them only in the higher gears. By the way, whatever happened to your pal, the Rambunctious One?
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
That may have been the problem. As for the captain, if my intel is correct he is about to drop his video on the Speedmaster very soon!

I own a wonderful Triumph Bobber. Today, March 23th 2020, we are inside full storm of Corona Virus. Last December I recovered my Bobber at my Triumph Dealer Garage, quite far from here. Therefore I cannot even look at her. I am dreaming wind on my face again...

I love it But that bloody seat ! , love the speed master 👍👍 I may have to pop over to Kentucky Triumph to check these bad boys out in person . Am a short ass as well so am Not a forward controls type person ! . Will that seat on the bobber lay down more so it don’t have that humongous Gap ?? Great review mate 👍👍🍺🍺👊
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
The Bobber seat is on a rail, which it can slide along, and then the rail can be pitched up and down, so you should be able to close the gap up by pitching it down and sliding the seat back I guess. I'd have demonstrated the seat adjustment but it's something you need the tool for and I wasn't going to go messing about with the dealers demonstrator hahah.

Nice work as usual Phil, question , the speedmaster was a sports cruiser, this looks more like the American, have they done this because it would be too similar to the Bobber? It's a bit YMCA for my taste, I would prefer the Bobber black with a pillion set up. Good review thought, reminded me of old Top Gear with Quentin Wilson lol.
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
Thanks Ray. Yes this is more like the America, but not sure the reasons why they've done it this way. I would have thought they would have done a version with the 900cc Street engine in for the Speedmaster/America and then a new Thunderbird or something for the 1200cc engine.

@Sabre1ewan
@Sabre1ewan 6 лет назад
I really wish they'd kept it more like the previous Speedmaster. Changed to the 900 engine, big fuel tank and blacked out. I assume they've done this to compete more directly with Sportsters though.
@Sabre1ewan
@Sabre1ewan 6 лет назад
Would you recommend the cruise control? I've looked at it a few times for my bike but it's something like £400, which is rather a lot for something I'm not sure about!
@easternmenace
@easternmenace 6 лет назад
I have never used it myself but would love to have it. On long trips where you need to hold the throttle open for long periods of time for example. Or for average speed cameras
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
I was surprised to hear they used the 1200 for the Speedmaster. I thought they would use the 1200 for a new Thunderbird or something. It would be nice to see them do a cruiser in the 900cc Street range to appeal to the A2 licence holders. Maybe the "Street Master" is on the cards for next year hahah.
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
The cruise control is a nice thing to have for those longer constant speed journeys. £400 to add it though, maybe worth it if you do a lot of motorway miles. I use one of those plastic wrist rest things that you clip around the throttle grip. £2 off ebay or something like that.

Great review, both bike look great. don't think the bobber will work for tall guys though we have the same issues as shorter riders. finding a bike that fits lol
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
That is true, I have seen some tall people on the Bobber looking quite hunched and uncomfortable.
@paullee6663
@paullee6663 6 лет назад
Very true! I'm short like Phil, never fails to amaze me the number of people that buy a bike that doesn't fit, it is always the first thing I check. No different to buying a pedal cycle in many respects (to me at least) For example, if you're short, a wide seat can make a bike unrideable almost irrelevant of the 'seat height.
@BigPezza
@BigPezza 6 лет назад
nice edit a lot better then the average motovlogger test ride but dont tempt me with a cruiser i do miss mine
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
It's nice, but maybe a bit pricey. Maybe they will do a smaller, cheaper cruiser in the Street range with the 900cc engine in to appeal to the A2 catergory.

Nice review Phil. I think I prefer the bobber, especially now I know the tank is not much bigger on the Speedy! I’m not a fan of the forward controls, far from being relaxed I find it most uncomfortable.

It does take some getting used to. Also, considering how awkward the seating position on the Bobber looks, I was quite comfortable on it.

@Phil480
@Phil480 4 года назад
You won’t have a problem reaching the controls, however I imagine it may feel cramped for someone of your height. Best thing to do would be to visit a dealership or a bike show where you can sit on one and see how it feels. The bobber seat is adjustable but the foot pegs are higher and closer. Whereas the Speedmaster foot controls are further away, but the handlebars come back closer to the rider.
@CornishMotorcycleDiaries
@CornishMotorcycleDiaries 6 лет назад
I can't help feel that the Speedmaster just looks dull compared to the original bobber. It's also a much heavier bike which accounts for the extra fuel consumed. I'm also not convinced that the fatter front tyre improves handling. Probably makes it more comfortable which seems to be your conclusion anyway. I'd take the original, if it could be had with the black engine cases as the Alloy ones are known to corrode frighteningly quickly.
@thefivepoints

A cruiser with sports bike style tyres is never going to gel with me. I don't like the wiring loom along the bars either, some finishing touches needed me thinks. Very comfy though but disappointingly not quite there for me to part with the Harley. Start throwing the extras on and it becomes a very expensive bike indeed, bit like the Harleys really :)
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
Yes, it is a pricey machine. One day I will actually get around to trying the Harleys, I've been saying it for ages that I need to get over to a dealership. Not many that near to me down here.

What is a Marmite?
@Phil480
@Phil480 6 лет назад
Marmite is a British product made from yeast extract. It has a strong taste, kind of looks like tar and is commonly spread on toast. Australia have a similar thing called Vegemite. Because of the strong yeasty taste, some people really love it, others absolutely hate it. So much so that it earned its own slogan “you either love it or hate it” So when somebody refers to something as being like Marmite, it is something that people absolutely love or hate. In this case, the Bobber fits that term quite well based off what people are saying about it.

probably thirstier because of the extra weight, pillion seat bigger tank and so on! it all adds up! at least that'll be partly it! maybe mapping is a wee bit different as well on the 2 bikes? Speedmaster would be my choice though! wish I could afford one! local dealer has one ex demo less than 500 miles for £1000 off new list otr price! no haggling please they say! they're even giving full 2 years warranty, I think the shop are giving the added time themselves through their own warranty company, and (I think I have the right amount) £500 of extras in the price! including Triumph clothing, helmets, windscreen, whatever most of this I expect is why they're asking for no haggling!
