I had pre-ordered the black controller before it came out last year and noticed it was built slightly different... the face buttons seemed a little recessed like they weren't as tall and had less travel distance so they were slightly more sensitive. I actually enjoyed using it a lot more than the white and red ones I have. It just recently started getting the beginning stages of stick drift about a month ago so since it wasn't a year yet it was under warranty and I sent it in to get fixed... I just received it back today and they actually sent me the new model controller (it feels noticeably different and has the A on the end of the model number). The buttons seem taller and "less sensitive" than they used to be, the d-pad feels more clicky and the adaptive triggers feel much better. Also, the black seems more like a two-tone dark grey and darker grey than black, which I actually really like. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise?

I've had people say I'm stupid for changing out my controller for something as simple as color but while I think the 2 tone is pretty nice looking its not fun when I constistently get marks on it from sweat while with my series x controller this is never an issue, also after this video because it has updated and improved internals that will make it last longer

Ok very interesting. The main differences seem to be They used the thumbsticks with the orange pots from another manufacturer (likely polyshine). I know from the ps4 that they used both Alps Alpine RKJXV1224005 (rated for 2 million cycles) and orange Polyshine FR10K (rated for 2 million cycles). They are specced for the same amount of use, and the orange polyshine thumbsticks are actually cheaper. Another notable change is the main board is a 4 layer pcb instead of a 6 layer, and the shell was redesigned to use less internal screws. This strongly suggests that the change was made for cost / assembly / availability of parts reasons and not because the "new controllers are better" The triggers were slightly redesigned. I would need some more testing and data to confirm if this is actually an upgrade but it is conceivable. I have a BDM-020 controller kicking around that I could take pictures of the triggers the next time I take it apart - but the trigger modules are kind of a hassle to get to and disassemble. Not in a rush to do this lol. I'd hold off on saying the new controllers are upgraded or better until actual proof comes through. The newer wiis removed the gamecube ports. The newer ps3's removed reverse compatibility. Point being newer does NOT mean better, so I would wait a bit before suggesting the newer version ps5 controllers are actually an improvement to the end user (and not just an improvement to sony's pocketbook)

It's good to hold back excitement and judgement but we should also remember that the series two PS4 controllers fixed a lot of the huge issues with the series one's. Main issue that was solved was the Trigger grommets wore exponentially slower, if not at all, in the series 2 controllers.

I’ve disassembled many of both versions and don’t see how the new versions triggers are any better, but they are built slightly differently, kinda seems to me another “money save” for them as the L2/R2 is hollowed out than before

@@ChummyBoy the triggers from the series 1 PS4 controllers would cut into the grommets over time and reduce the overall travel you could have. This was fixed almost immediately but launch controllers had this issue

I can actually verify what the others are saying. With the slim / pro ps4 controllers (JDM-040,050,055) the back of the trigger where the plastic meets the rubber button has a t shape instead of a line. This should mean more contract on the rubber itself, leading to less wear over time Mind you any of the slim/pro version PS4 controllers will be at least 3 years newer than the old version controllers, so by the time the newer controllers hit the same age with the same amount of use I'd expect to see similar amounts of wear. I don't know if they made any significant changes to the rubber itself

Did you know that with the launch of the New PS5 Colors and Controls a new version of the control was made (update B) the new code ends with B at the end (CFI-ZCT1WB) there were some internal changes to the control, one of them is about the spring of the kitten

That’s odd, the first two I bought I ended up having to send back due to spring breaking. They are now coded with “A” indicating they sent newer ones? Well, I bought two black controllers because I’m an idiot and spent $160 to have all black, yet only ONE of the two have the “A” meaning the one black one is older model? Assumed the newer colored ones are all revised but guess not.

So I have 2 Controllers, they’re separate in ID so I have a 1 and A but what I’ve noticed is that the one ending with the 1 which would be the old one has a vibration if I tap it on my palm while the one with the A is dead stiff when I tap it on my palm. However there’s something curious going on, the one with the 1 which would be the original one has a darker blue indicator light when logging on. The one with the A has more of a light blue when logging in and even the charging orange light is different than too. In conclusion my 1 controller has better light strip tone than the A one. The A one has the light strips looking dull. Why is that? Also the vibration the controllers have when off. Any and all help would be appreciated.

that "new" version you're talking about came out last June. I know cuz I got one last July when they announced it. And they modified the board and the trigger assemblies back then, but did not "beef up" any springs for the triggers, nor did they change the parts for the stick drift. Just letting ya know, it doesn't matter if you are getting BDM-010 or BDM-020, they are no better than one another. They have yet to address the problems they have been in a class action suit about.

They are visibly a different thumb stick module, and several people have durability tested the versions side by side with minimal failure rate on the newer version. I know what you are referring to but this is a completely different revision/update.

I didn't see a difference while I was replacing the spring, I hope they actually did do something better is what I really am wishing for. I'm tired of replacing the springs, and thought the new model would be different, but one month after getting it, no trigger spring left on my L2... it always goes!

Probably about the same mount of time. The issue is with the fact that the pots wear out, which both the old and new sticks are suceptable to. Best advice is keep the controller (and your hands) super clean - the cleaner the controller is, the longer it will last.

THIS, along with the fact that overpriced broken games are criminally constantly released (usually without refund), is why I try to wait as long as I can to invest my money, time and energy into these products, which I love when they’re fixed and work well. Makes for a much less disappointing experience. Most people don’t have the same patience, which is partially why they continue to get away with this crap. Plus, we live in a wonky, corrupt banking and corporate led society that is constantly squeezing us, meting we all lose out, just like how every other industry operates that relies on profit. Things have got to drastically change at the core structure of this bizarre world that we have created for ourselves, before anything will really change. The only people that should be buying these products straight from launch are the reviewers like your good self who can hopefully afford the unrealistic prices and total disappointment these games and consoles release with. I don’t wait for anything . I’m day 1 all day . If everyone thought like you we would have no good games at all . I appreciate the fact that some people have to be more budget connscious and like to take a wait and see approach and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that but In order for you to get that better deal or better product later you need a people like me buy day one. Those are the sales that green light future products. If everyone waited for things to go on sale before purchase or to be fixed as you say it would be a very different gaming world .

I bought my PS5 from Walmart but the controller doesn’t have any FCC number. The model is CFI-ZCT1J and it has drift issue. Is it a new version or old? The Sony website don’t show this model at all. Very confusing.

I just bought a PS5 and extra controller from Wal-Mart. The one that came with the console has much smoother feeling thumbsticks. The black and white ps5 controller and I believe the red one as well originally released with 1 at the end of the model number. While the other colors originally released as 1A and then the white, black and red ones were eventually updated with the current hardware which is 1A. The only reason I knew this is because I had the black dualsense when it originally came out and it was just a 1 at the end but then later on when I bought another black one I noticed it had a hardware update become it had 1A like the rest of the current new models.

@@roblox21242 yes I notice it and the reason is because the coils used in the triggers/bumpers are bigger meaning they Aren’t as tight.

@@roblox21242 because the new controllers have bigger coils then the original ones. Smaller coils = tighter bumpers/ triggers while it’s the opposite for Bigger coils.

@@j.swwervo4586 is this a good thing? because this is my third controller, the second controller that i got was very loose too and it had major R2/L2 issues and it would randomly trigger other skills when i play ff14. while i dont have this issue with my og controller, my og controller have stick drift issues only, but my second controller have stick drift, R2/L2 issues and would randomly trigger other actions in game. I saw this happening with the brand new controller that i got this weekend during the target sale. it looks like its already defective :(

@@roblox21242 well usually it’s suppose to be better since the adaptive trigger features don’t become defective with the bigger springs/coils but for the trigger/bumpers overall it could be a issue which wasn’t evaluated by Sony.

It’s still working great. It should be fine man, even the older dual sense was hit and miss, for example I have never experienced stick drift or trigger failure even on my original controller that came with the console a year ago

I've had my scuf for a month of daily use, no problems yet. You won't have to worry about the spring failing on it if you got the FPS model, just hope the trigger switches last. Hopefully on their FPS model, they still use omron switches. I modded my white scuf reflex with omron short triggers. Nice controller! How do you like the triggers on it?

that's not exactly true my Black controllers both have 1 at the end meaning it should have the smaller weak L2 and R2 spring Only it Dosn't they both have the New bigger and stronger spring i know since i bought the new springs to replace them when i opened them and measured the springs they were the same Only mine white controller that i got with the console with 1 had the old weak springs and from what i can tell theres different Tumbsticks in the old and new Revision of dualsense some have blue potentiometers some have yellow and others are Green theres an Alps chart showing what controllers have what analog thumbsticks why controllers with 1 would have the new spring and sticks cause Sony is Not about to throw all the shells they made that have the old FCC ID very simple really
