Ordered one about a month ago. Cost around 18200 Euro, with almost all extra options(not the biggest rims, missing interior ambient lighting and some other "useless" stuff) and 3 years of services included aswell. With todays electric prices this costs under 0,2 euro per 10km of driving here in Norway, which means that we save 70-100 euro per month in petrol/diesel only You save 300 euro per year in "road tax". You get half price on toll roads(some places its free with electric) Alot of places you can park for free aswell. Will keep our other car for longer distance travelling, but this will be our daily driver for sure!

Have one now for 6 month. Really like it. Quick in town. Silent on the highway. Not for 1.000 km journeys. But 250km drives, very much ok! On the highway about 120W/km. City around 10W/km. Charging at home at 11KW (3 phase). Fastcharging at app 30KW. For distance we have a Z4 35is. Kids are all grown up and leave us pretty much alone on our travels :) Solarpanels on the roof means that we drive for free with kWh's to spare. Thx for the review.

Good work and great review, AJ. The design is quite basic, but also very practical for urban driving. The increase in range over the previous version is very good and will be much appreciated by e-up! buyers. Using a smart phone as an alternative to an expensive infotainment system makes sense in this segment as most people already have a phone. One place where it's let down however is the lack of padded armrests on the doors. One point about electric cars is although one pays a higher price initially, you save a lot in running costs since the cost of electricity is much less than petrol. Thanks Autogefuhl and cheers!

The problem with Xenon/LED is the mandatory automatic headlight range adjustment. VW would have had to redesign the front, making the car too expensive. They instead are investing the money to develop a dedicated platform for small EVs, similar to the MEB used in their ID.3.
@kamata93

Seems an odd cost decision to put high-drain halogen lights in an electric car. In the UK we commute to work in darkness for most of the year. I remember the early electric Smarts - switch the lights and wipers on and watch your range disappear! I’m sure things are better nowadays, but I would have expected eco-lights in an eco-commute car.

@davithdevries6774
@davithdevries6774 4 года назад
The drain is negible in a car with a 36kWh battery: even at full beam + rear fog it would drain about 150w with all lights on. At 60kph/40mph average speed, you would consume 9kw per hour in driving energy (@150wh/km). 150w of lights contributes 150/9000= 1.6%. Full LED could bright it down to 40w, but that only saves you about 1% on total consumption number, 99%* 150wh/km= 148.5wh/km or 14.85kwh/100km. The heater on the other hand, has a BIG influence, as it drains about 3-4kWh in winter!

In the UK - I have a petrol Skoda Citigo. Bought it for just over £7000 (about EUR8200) just over 2 years ago. Its cheap to run and insure. The e-UP would be a good car, but at EUR23000, that is almost 3 times the cost. I do a large mileage and yet my fuel per year is around £2000, so even keeping the car for 4 years, the petrol car is still far cheaper than the electric car. If the public are going to buy small electric cars like this, then the price of a car like this needs to be reduced by around EUR10000 to make it competitive.

The range is on the low side. That would mean that I have to charge about 3 times compared to my current Take Up full tank. With E10 range is already a lot lower. Pricing at public chargers in the neighborhood (€0,43) would mean at 2-3 full charge around same as gasoline full tank. My tipping point would be around 350km range. Please proof me wrong. Daily commute home-work-home this would do. Lucky for me my lease ends next year.

Still interested in a lease. VW put is price way up. Skoda is second. Seat has lowest at this moment. €320/month. I fill up 2 times a month. 2 Full tanks €110 So I calculated 6 charges. For same amount of kilometers. Shell Recharge tells me full battery 0-100 is €12,51 so about €75 a month. In current IONITY pricing scheme you never know what the rest will do. Certain is that Dutch government will raise taxes on gasoline coming years. Do I switch this year to electric or in 5 years. Starting in March the max speed on highway will be brought back from 120-130 to 100kph. Driving electric will need different approach in driving.

I used to like this car... back in 2011... getting a bit old now. Hyundai i10 is better.

There was no e-Up! in 2011. Compared to an electric drive train the i10's ICE feels like it has asthma.

@@wermagst No there wasn't but there was the regular UP! That was the car I was referring to. Yes it may feel slow compared to the electric UP! but the 60bhp petrol Up! is no ball of fire either!

@@melcanuck5951 All those small petrol engines suck: low torque, slow acceleration and need to rev up high to get any meaningful power out of them (plus the annoying noise). If you have a chance to do a test drive in the new e-Up, give it a go. There is nothing better for a small city car, than an electric drive train. Here in Germany the e-Up will have almost the same price as an equally configured petrol version (after 6570 € incentives). Relly a no-brainer, as it is considerably cheaper to run.

@@wermagst I drove my first electric car when I was 5 years old at a fun fair.... it was a bumper car :) bit.ly/34qmCzV I would consider an electric car when the purchase prices come down and the range improves. An eUP is a bit small for me and IMO the Golf GTE is too expensive... and there is no Polo Electric (yet)

Trying v hard to promote an ugly and dated car.... Electric does not make it any more beautiful .... VW coming in late and sounds desperate to flog an old model as new. I.D3 ... Way too expensive ... So they are trying to promote the up as their base/ economy electric VW. It may work on some people..

At this price you can get a Renault Zoe 300km WLTP Led lights and much nicer interieur

You'll have to bring it in for repairs every 300km though.

Naive fallacy. The Zoe does not come at 21950€ with 300 km WLTP. And even if you choose the 300 km-Zoe for 2.000€ more you do not own the battery.

My take: buy a much cheaper, reliable, economical, stylish suzuki swift instead of this expensive, boring,90's AA+++ moving fridge.
