Oh man, I've got so many opinions on the Warcry reveals Elves: Wrath of the Bruinen Ninja (Turtle) Elves Ghosts: HYPE but also pleaseletthisteamnotsuck. Also, I think pyreghiests are super proxy-able. Leader is a Krulghast cruciator, middle boys are craven hunts people (swap in melee weapons), and the bedsheet boys are tomb banshees Krethusa is absolutely a DnD "Raven Queen" temple leader waiting to happen Callis and Toll: double pistol guy is an icon. The rest are totally okay

Had an absolute blast listening to you three while I was painting my flameseekers. I know rambling for 2 hours can be difficult, so thank you so much for giving us some good food for thoughts. My opinions on the different topics: The two new warbands look awesome. The nighthaunt one is really, really dope looking, and I would not be surprised if the leader used the cages to trap souls and maybe use them as buffs (if not using them to reanimate his underlings might be a good bet). I would have loved the Lumineth guys to all have armor but they look okay (I guess it's an not a proper elf warband with some t-shirt saves) -What to expect: 2024 might be a bit less dense, but to be fair last year had 4 BIG boxes. The ones we get now are "medium-big", to build upon what the BIG boxes gave us. GW seems to be using warcry to give us the "weird" battlelines for sure (like the gorgers for Ogors Mawtribes), which I'm okay with. It's nice to have cool new plastic sculpts of old stuff, and I'm pretty sure they will continue to also give us new things for factions thay don't have that much old stuff. I don't know if we will get a third edition, but I would be surprised if not, just because of the enormous amount of newer models we got this year, from Slaves to Darkness, to Seraphon and now Flesh-Eater Courts. It's weird that we got rules for Cities when the stuff that got refreshed a while ago still hasn't got rules, but they might actually be getting the idea that skirmish gaming can be a very good asset for sales and community growth. -Whishlisting: Adding new rules for the models that don't have any yet. The subreddit has often people asking if they can use their new Seraphons in Warcry, and I'm one of these people. The entire plot is around a Seraphon spaceship! Regarding remaining warbands, I'm betting/hoping on Sylvaneth vs Beasts of Chaos, à la manière of the two Underworld Warbands we got a while back (Skaeth's Wild Hunt and Grashrak’s Despoilers), when they were fighting inside the predatory moutain of Beastgrave. The setting is perfect for a fight between these. I really wish we got more critters. Despite being the Realm of Beasts, we don't get that many monsters, which is a shame. Even if let's say Destruction doesn't need monsters (at least at the moment), it's a missed opportunity to not introduce more beasts to use and spice games up (maybe a giant crocodile, a pack of hyenas, giant scorpions or monstrous insects that make their hives inside the gnarlwood). Give us more critters GW! Big and small ones! A bit of a refresh on the 8 original beaspoke warbands could be cool for sure. I like them, a lot, but they do need to get a little boost to bring them to speed with newer things. Speaking of newer things, the "not-so-great" warbands like Claws of Karkanak could use a bigger touch, so their abilities are not such a pain to pull off and you don't just play the leader. Hunters of Huanchi as well, bit of a shame to basically play them for one fighter...Overall, I would like if they took a bit more of a case-by-case approach with the different warbands to tweak them instead of relying so much on an algorithm. Also, since you guys were talking about mission packs, what would you think about doing a video on what your personnal "missions pack" would look like? The best 6 to 12 missions to have, that both represent what warcry is about and give the "better balanced/best" experience to players? In any case, keep up the good work!

My thoughts: Current roadmap has 2 more Order warbands, 1 Death, and 1 Destruction - presumably that will wrap up the Gnarlwood season. Presuming these are all for factions that don't yet have warbands, and that Orruk Warclans is considered 1 faction (and so we aren't expecting anything for Ironjawz or Bonesplittaz), this means we'll complete Death (Ossiarch Bonereapers) and Destruction (Gloomspite Gitz) and get two of the remaining three Order factions. It's a treasure hunt, so surely Kharadron will show up. And a forest, so Sylvaneth make sense. Hints in Dawnbringers books and fiction suggests to me a Kurnothi hunting party, which would be an ideal fit for Warcry - the Underworlds warband already provides varied fighter types, a mage, a pet, and a leader that could easily form the basis of a new warband. The Riverblades seem a bit too close thematically to Idoneth, that faction is not especially popular, and it's rare for GW to involve Idoneth with anything other than the generic justification 'they're attracted to places with lots of fighting because there are lots of souls to steal', which seems intrinsically less interesting than anything they could do with the other two outstanding Order factions. I expect Warcry will go to a third season that would let them add Idoneth, Skaven, Hedonites and Beasts. Skaven would likely be linked to their rumoured range refresh, and good options would be either a Night Runner/Gutter Runner set or a Moulder Packmaster set with Rat Ogres and Giant Rats. And that that will be the game's swan song.

Narrative gaming and campaign gaming aren't the same, and when people describe Warcry as a competitive game they mostly aren't talking about the campaign system. Warcry is a narrative game in one-off play, with fighter, terrain and mission abilities all designed to hit the flavour of what characters are doing and to generate 'cinematic' moments from leaping over magma to cutting rope bridges or hurling projectiles at enemies attempting to scale a platform. Actually balancing the factions is not a priority beyond hopefully not making games so one-sided that they become uninteresting. GW is never going to make serious efforts to design the game for competitive play - stuff like Questor Soulsworn and Hunters of Huanchi that do interesting things despite being bad (when played as intended) are the sorts of design they're after.

i actually loved the campaign of the first edition better than the current one, the new one is better for multiplayer but it feels hollow somehow, the first system was like this epic story that my warband journeyed through with a beginning middle and end with a final boss....Done it with about 6 warbands so thats 60 odd games. The rule we used was simply if a convergence was too hard you simply moved past it, you chose how many times you tried to do it, ofc if you do move past it you don't get the rewards. For me personally i think what would genuinely benefit Warcry is a solo/coop game mode. Like maybe 2-6 players where you control only a single model each and you have to quest your way through dungeons, and they could bring back those large monster boss fight missions. Edit* A unique idea for order allies could be War machines, maybe one of your models gets a one time use "grenade" or something.

I don't really understand the criticism of Nighthaunt lore. They're ghosts, and behave like classic ghosts. They have no remaining personality to speak of, but almost limitless scope to invent their histories, causes of death, or the specifics of the Hades-style punishment Nagash has meted out to them. Do you think of Sisyphus as boring because he doesn't do anything but push a rock all day every day? Or ghost stories boring because the ghost usually behaves in repetitive fashion, walking the same paths and taking the same actions again and again? Ann Boleyn's ghost isn't a popular story because she supposedly wanders around the Tower of London being a bit dull, but because she's Ann Boleyn - the pre-ghost stuff is the interest, along with the impact the ghost has on witnesses.

Haven't watched this yet but I wonder what they'll do with the river mage when they release that, presumably alongside the next AoS Lumineth book. Will they give it the runemark for the Riverblade warband, so that it will be the first model added to a 'bespoke' Warcry band? Might they release it alongside the boxed set so that it's a model available to the warband but not in the box? Or will they just accept the thematic oddness of adding it to the standard Lumineth roster but having it unavailable for the Riverblades?

The number of SBGL underworld warbands that exist now only reinforce my idea that we need Warcry boxes with a couple of warbands that can be put together or played in a Bladeborn only format (like Crypt of Blood did). There's enough that you could do one for Idoneth or Stormcast in Order, Orruks or GSG in Destruction, Skaven for Chaos, and SBGL obviously. Let alone just mashing together 2 from each GA and getting old warbands back in circulation. That's my wishlist at any rate! Stoked for ghosts and the masked elves, VERY stoked for the new UW warband.

As someone who plays both Lumineth (main) and Nighthaunt (new toy) in AoS, I won't have to split this box with anybody, and in general I'm looking forward to it, with a couple reservations. Let's get the bad part out of the way: The Lumineth warband is ten models. Out of the box, the Lumineth -- whose Compendium blurb is two sentences, both of which emphasize how they're always outnumbered -- once again will be more numerous than most of the warbands I fight. Also, I have a strong suspicion they are not going to fix the elf problem with this kit. Elves are in a weird place in Warcry, because the classic elf statline is superior to the human one in four categories: Move (which is in Warcry); and Skill (WS/BS), Initiative, and Leadership (which are not). You have nothing to set you apart except your abilities, and the Lumineth abilities are either awkward or not very good. Anyway, I look at the mooks in this warband and I'd worry they're going to be T3 8W, which is not viable. Someone on the Warcry design team seems to be following the stereotype rather than setting the standard, and believing that elves are supposed to be "squishy" or "glassy," because that's what you see online. But this is little more than the angry-nerd ranting of lumpy desk-knights who blame "elves" for the fact they didn't get laid in high school. These are the same people who rank Space Marine chapters by skin tone, and you don't have to listen to anything they say. If you've ever played Warhammer (Fantasy, AoS, 40k, Blood Bowl, etc.), then you know that the Warhammer elf has average toughness and wounds, median defensive values, and a bevy of powers to make themselves -- High Elves, especially -- harder to kill than humans. Their weakness is not individual fragility, but rather a sheer lack of bodies, such that they can't simply trade blows with their enemies, and must instead be more precise. The _Kill Team_ people figured out how to do it with the Aspect Warrior team, but for some reason the people with the better game want me to play them as well-groomed Skaven. Anyhow, they look awesome, and of course I'll play them even if they're lousy, even if this means I buy the individual box when it comes out and play more elite. Yes, the henchmen don't look as cool as the heroes, but that's by intent. Juves don't get to look as cool as full Gangers; you have to earn that right by running point and dodging bullets. Then maybe you get some armor. As for abilities? Difficult to say. It would be nice if the leader had something useful but not imperative (it's weird that the faction that is all about standing in front of your wizard while it uses its spells to make you super-powered has so little hero-to-troop synergy, but I greatly enjoy the flexibility engendered by the fact that you aren't dependent on keeping your leader alive). I might expect some bonus actions -- specifically disengages and moves -- to represent the "riverine fluidity" aspect, and to give some elves one of the things they're sorely lacking. Then again, that would make more sense on a warband with 8 or 9 bodies, so who knows? If Warcry is following GW's 3-year-per-edition model, then we're a long way from major changes, and I'm fine with that; the game is very good right now. One would hope for some documents to add rules for AoS units that have appeared since the Compendium was released, and perhaps some very slight points adjustments. As for products, some new terrain sets? Maybe something that isn't in a jungle? (It's a cool setting for a skirmish, but not for three years with no break -- especially since AoS proper has explored all sorts of environments within the same realm.) We found the _Eye of Chotec_ and it's brokedown, man. Let's tromp on to the next MacGuffin and start squabbling anew.

I don't like the masks or particularly the paintscheme, but the models interest me although High Elf Corsairs are unexpected. Nearly every other Lumineth unit - and all infantry and cavalry - have an analogue in the HE list, so I was expecting something like Shadow Warriors, Sea Guard, White Lions or Tiranoc Chariots for the river aelementiri. Also wonder whether this is two squad boxes a la each of the Kill Teams in Salvation, as Stoneguard and Bladelords come 5 to a box - there doesn't seem obvious duplication, though. And now the comparison with Blood Bowl elf poses has been made I can't unsee it.

Three thoughts: 1. Someone needs to kitbash a stormcast warband, but all the stormcast look like members of a kpop band. 2. It's maybe good that GW isn't putting a pet in every warband, but they really did miss an opportunity for a ghost dog. I guess this is an opportunity for a wildercorps kitbash, but it won't be me, see 3rd thought. 3. I really need a list building video on the wildercorps hunters before the new kroot models come out. Specifically I need to figure out how I'm going to proxy a krootox into my wilderkroot warband.

In regards to fixing elves. My gf loves daughters of khaine and I have been trying to make them playable by adjusting points. I like the idea of crit hunting with the elite fighter elves, but it just doesn’t pay off. We played a game where I gave some of her units the ability to crit on 5s and 6s. Could this be really broken? Probably. It did make me for a fun game, where her models were actually kinda scary. Also I need to say this in every warcry comment. We need kurnoth and ivory host. Its the only right answer. I think beasts of chaos are getting canned as a faction. Seems like AoS players think the same. Also I just ordered models for a slaanesh warband, so I’d be happy with slaanesh theme as well

Beasts getting ditched is a silly rumour that has no basis other than a provably incorrect notion that AoS and Old World will be separate systems modelwise - Old World will act as a retirement home for AoS kits as they get replaced (e.g. Black Orcs are in the Orc and Goblin release rather than using the new Ardboys sculpts) but there are many WFB kits still sold for AoS other than Beasts that remain current for Old World's primary factions - all of Slaves to Darkness, all Night and Forest Goblins, Savage Orcs trolls, Steam Tanks, all Cities Dwarfs... Old World isn't even a proven success yet, plus it's a side game - no one's going to remove factions from AoS because of their presence in a side game. GW is accelerating the pace of retiring WFB kits from AoS (especially metals and resin), but only does so when the units have replacements or their role is deemed irrelevant to the army. Stuff like Steam Tanks and Dwarfs will stick around until their replacements come online, and while a bunch of stuff for High Elves, Wood Elves and Empire - WFB focal factions - was recently dropped only to reappear in Old World, AoS also lost the Razordon, several metal Saurus characters and Cold One Knights even though Lizardmen aren't a focal faction in The Old World, in both cases because of a range update.

@philipbowles5397
@philipbowles5397 6 месяцев назад
It literally is an AoS unit box (or possibly two). Increasingly GW is using both Kill Team and Warcry to update AoS kits first and for use in Warcry second - Ogor Gorgers, Hunters of Huanchi, and for that matter Khainite Shadowstalkers back in their day. Wildercorps Hunters, despite having the diversity of a Warcry kit, were first advertised as an AoS release. Kill Team has it even worse: it gets upgrade sprues to existing 40k kits for almost half its releases, and the three all-new teams this season are all updates of old 40k kits: Space Marine Scouts, Eldar Striking Scorpions, and Drukhari Mandrakes. This specific unit is one that's teased in Lumineth lore, as each of the four branches of Lumineth elements have a formulaic unit mix: a squad, a mage hero, and an elemental that has a named and a generic form. These already exist for stone and wind, and river was due to be the next. One thing they may do is add the river mage to the warband, but it wouldn't share a box with the infantry.

I can't disagree more with your take on Daughters of Khaine as justification for changing from the Warhammer World to AoS - it would be top of my list of factions to ditch and a prime example of a misjudged reinvention that simply doesn't fit. Even aside from the S&M gladiator girl thing being an embarrassment aesthetically in the modern world - and definitely something that shouldn't have been put front and centre at the expense of the other Dark Elves (yes, GW is slowly toning it down - some of the newer ones wear at least some clothing, and Melusai, Khinerai and Shadowstalkers depart from that aesthetic, but they still put out stuff like the Underworlds warbands and the High Gladiatrix) - they have a faction leader whose entire backstory has had to be retconned/ignored for the role they want to give her (a Slaaneshi cultist leading an Order faction and specifically one that hates Slaanesh), and the faction backstory as temple guardians gives them no realistic motivation for being a military force of any significance. Even the Broken Realms storyline acknowledged as much: in a storyline centred on Morathi the actual Daughters of Khaine were nowhere to be seen, with first Shadowstalkers and later mindslaved Cities Dark Elves being her primary assets. Associated short fiction gave her Dreadlords and Reaper bolt throwers instead of Witch Elves and Melusai. Idoneth are reimagined Dark Elves done right, not Daughters of Khaine. Morathi's storyline to date has been all but incoherent and utterly devoid of consequences - she ate a god because she wanted ... to become a god, a role that hasn't obviously achieved anything or given her any power she didn't already have. She was immediately forgiven for taking Anvilgard, and instead of adding all those mindslaved Dark Elves to her forces she just turned Har Kuron into a gladiatorial arena no different from any she already had. Even though Sigmar's forces are now aware that the Darkling Covens' Sorceress leaders are agents of Morathi, somehow they're still part of Cities of Sigmar. And most of her faction doesn't seem to care in the slightest that they're now worshipping Morathi outright instead of Khaine - they haven't even changed their name, which is now completely inaccurate instead of only partially (there were always male 'Daughters of Khaine' - Doomfire Warlocks and most Shadowstalkers. And they must presumably reproduce - even if all the typical aelves are cultists who converted from other factions, new Melusai and Khinerai must come from somewhere). GW seems to insist on compounding the original error of a faction that made no sense by making its story role ever more ludicrous and senseless as time goes on. To me Krethusa - with her so-far unique faction symbol, her disdain for Morathi, and the preview show talking up a duality between 'blood' and 'shadow' in the faction - seems a first step towards replacing Daughters of Khaine with an expanded 'Umbraneth' shadow aelf faction that will include both Morathi's and Malerion's forces. I do love the model - it has very Classical overtones with features of both harpies and oracles.
