A treasure to be sure. I think he’s got a natural sense of humour. I think that comes from having big family groups. A lovely calm man who deserves a space bigger than he had. I always expected there to be his bed against a wall but now nothing can stop his creative genius.
@@jr3628 I guess seeing the lathe he might need to engrave a pulley and make a spring system to get the belt nice and tight. But the downside from this workshop.... no more cats
i have an extra room with exactly the dimensions of this corner and always thought "oh yeah, I could have put a shop into this room, too" - But now that I realize that it's just a corner of his living room, I admire the cleaning discipline he must have had all those years.
not only garage spaces (my workshop is a maybe 5 m^2 in a second story of a builing) but also woodworkers from the states take for granted the ease for free lumber and good quality tools (second hand or new). I live in barcelona and its super hard to find anything half decent on second hand stores and if I don't buy wood (which I don't because its super expensive and I'm a broke student) I have to rely on small pieces of super curly firewood that I steal from here and there or old furniture that someone threw away as sources of lumber.
@@1999GGO Old furniture is generally amazing lumber. Already aged, straight and stable. Don't dismiss it as crap, it's better working than most stuff you'd order from a mill. Broken pianos are a great source if you need a lot, and you can recycle the frame within for extra cash.
@@nobodynoone2500 you don't understand me ,when I say old furniture I mean usually bad pine stuff if I'm very lucky, most of the furniture that gets thrown out is old IKEA stuf made from empty panels , I'd love to find good old furniture but in that case most likely I wouldn't use it as lumber rather as it is. Good furniture doesn't get trown out rather sold the furniture that gets thrown out its usually things that didnt cost more than 30€ and the lumber is that kind of pine that isnt even solid strips that go all the way across rather small pieces form strips and those strips glued together make panels. But hey most of that works fine for usefull tools gigs etc. I'd really love to learn to use green wood but I find it rather dificult to find and I wouldn't have anywhere to store it really.
I honestly thought that he had a extra bedroom or an attic, but no, it's was his fucking living room. And here am I complaining that I don't have enough space to do things.
Good motor, but a bit wobbly. There's a dude in Switzerland who might lend a hand... Not to dismiss our post apocalypse friend who is on the same journey...
@@ferdblu1946 I don’t know who Chuxmix is refering to, but my best guess and one that is relevant either way is “swisstoolmaker”! That man is a beast at getting lathes back running better than new, check him out
@@TobiasHoffmannWup No, he means the plywood that he put over the top of that. Big sheets of it, about 1/8 in. thick, that he stained, nailed up, then added some molding, then sprayed the molding black? That stuff. It's not even just the cost, it's impossible to get your hands on any right now, at least where I'm at (US, South Florida). But of course if you find it, the price is ridiculous.
Nice “new” lathe and drill press. On the lathe if you get a “nubbin” that is cone shaped your tool is high of center and if it’s a cylindrical nubbin you are low of center.
Seeing tools and gear in bright blue plastic in Uri's videos always makes me smile. They don't fit his usual style but they are good and cheap tools (a german budged tool brand named Lux Tools makes them). I have a couple of those and seeing such a talented craftsman such as Uri still has a couple of these "beginner tools" makes me happy and I feel less bad about not being able to afford better tools.
Cutting oil when using the lathe on steel, and maybe a tensioner on the pulley belt (eg. a small roller that is pressed into the belt to put a bit of additional tension on it and keep it from flopping about). Possibly a sealant on the particle board on the floor too? That'll make it a lot easier to clean up and help to prevent damage to it.
You said "Help me"... Your belts should be in the best condition possible; nice and supple. Hard belts will cause vibration. Tension: Ideally, you should be able to pinch the belts together midway between the pulleys and they should move their own thickness and no more. The cross slide of your lathe was (dangerously) closer to the chuck than the tool post. Always make sure that the tool post is at least flush with the carriage and cross slide. (You can see where the carriage has been chewed up by the chuck... Such a beautiful lathe. Please get a vice for the drill press! In a previous video, you expressed a desire to make a (musical) wind instrument... I've just retired as a clarinet maker and woodwind repair technician...get in touch if you want some help, both theoretical and practical. Good to see you back!
Glad I'm not the only one. 😹 Having them around when Uri is using power tools, chisels, hammers, or glue always made me nervous, but they're so beautiful and I always did love to see them. This is better for them all, though. I wish I had a cat-free workshop now!
I love that you take those extra steps like trimming out the plywood and even painting the trim for a nice contrast. Most of us will just slap whatever piece of scrap that fits on and call it good. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations on the new workshop! I've been watching your channel for a few years now, but through youtube on a ps3. Finally joined the pc world, and now I can comment on, and share your videos. I want to genuinely thank you for the countless hours of quality entertainment you have provided us with via your videos; I watch and re-watch your uploads constantly. Your back catalog is a monument to creative design, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I appreciate all you do, and I wish I could express that gratitude through other means, but the best I can do is extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you. Looking forward to your new projects, and am glad to have you back on the air. Thanks again, and enjoy your weekend.
Uri, YOU are making RU-vid what it should be. It feels like I am just standing there watching YOU and chatting with YOU. It will be time soon to decide whether you keep your day job and go full time RU-vidr. I’m very pleased with your direction and overcoming all of the obstacles in the past like no budget, new to this kind of stuff, just a little camera shy, working full time, marriage, having a baby, and working out of your freakin living room workshop (who would have thought). Just please keep being who YOU are because as you can tell, it’s working for YOU !!
I love this channel for the great things you do with very simple tools. I hope, this does not change. I do not want another channel with a workshop, only a few people can afford.
I’ve always been amazed at what you’ve accomplished in that tiny space. You’re an inspiration to all of us who can’t have big beautiful workshops in the country.
Fair and necessary . It is always more comfortable to have your space. To squander those endless hours of creations embodied in our work. Congratulations...!
The pink drill table should have been a clue not to buy it, lol. The second drill is a proper drill press, especially with your love of metalworking. I'm very happy for you Uri, you deserved a larger space. Now, all you need to do is mount some speakers on the walls for music and you will be all set!! I look forward to seeing your future videos in this new space!!!
Great to see you back, and with such a wonderful new shop. I'm going to miss your old shop. I always liked to point people to your videos to show them that they didn't need a huge shop with millions in tools to make awesome things. You're a legend, Uri. I'm quite looking forward to the rest of your adventure.
I've been waiting for sooo long, now uri has finaly made a new video the evening is saved. Excellent and fantastic go on man. I'm a great fan of you and your Work. Greetings from Switzerland🇨🇭🇨🇭
I wish I had that confidence to draw a semi-circle as accurately as you did for that door nook. This looks like an epic new shop! Looking forward to seeing what beautiful pieces of art come out of this studio!
Congrats Uri. I see you got lots of neat little new toys to play with. Wish you the best with your new playpen. Can't wait to see what's going to come out from there. Cheers
Congrats on your new workspace! Hope to see it up and running soon. Can't wait to see what your first project will be. That new lathe looks awesome. I love working with and on old machines. Once all the bugs are worked out they usually perform much better than most new ones. It looks like a solid machine. In your hands it should make things of beauty out of scrap and odds and ends. God bless you and your future endeavours. And thanks for the inspiration to do better.
Sir, this may be a weird reason to thank you, but I have been trying for a long time to come up with just the absolute necessary tools I need to actually be able to make most stuff myself, and thanks to you I have been able to actually make a list and find just exactly what I need based on what you do with them. I really appreciate all that you have showed us you can do with just the bare minimum of space and tools. Now time has come for you to have your own big space and get bigger tools and machines so you can be able to do more with less effort. You have totally earned it. Big congrats!! Can wait to see what else you create, and hope I can follow your steps!
A door opens and a new chapter begins! I look forward to the new possibilities and send you the best luck in all of your future endeavours in your new workshop!
Oh you bought a real lathe and you now got a drillpress. Seems like there's no limit you can't reach in your projects now. I'm really excited to see futur projects! I've always been but this new set up open so much possibilitys in your hands!!
4x8 TnG OSB, 1/4 Luan, 4x8 OSB... there is an absolute FORTUNE in wood alone in your new workshop (at least at American prices). lumber is at an all time high price. Oh and the shop is beautiful! cant wait to see what else you can do with a little more room.
Well Done with the new workshop. I bet your Wife and Children are over the Moon to get the living room space back again for themselves. Regards from Australia.
Dear Uri. Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. It's amazing what you have accomplished in your old (small) workshop. I can't wait to see your future creations. You are a very talented guy. Best of luck in your new surroundings!
If this man would to organize a weekend course I would sign up in an instant. It doesnt have to be a perfect planned course or any guarantee that you finish what we've started, it would simply be very exciting and giggly I reckon :)
12:06 *"HOW TO LOSE A FINGER 101"* (please see this and use a vice or clamp in future, when the drill bit breaks through, it can catch and spin the part, both lifting it and rotating it, with a drill press that can easily either cut you badly, remove a finger or worse- send the part flying accross the room and impale you) t. mechanical fitter/artisan/machinist/guy with a spanner
When Uri greets his random viewers from around the world with the phrase "my friends", it's perfectly sincere. If ever there was a fine craftsman and a gentleman who deserved a proper workspace, Uri Tuchman was he.
This is awesome buddy, congratulations. Just to see how excited you are made the whole video. I can't wait to see what comes outta the new shop. God bless my friend
Oh my gosh a heavier duty lathe and drill press! Yuri you've changed! Just like deresta! In all seriousness I can't wait to see the things that come out of your shop with the upgrades. I'm really excited for you and can't wait!
Welcome back and nice new workshop. That you worked in one of the corners of your livingroom for all the years was quite a shock. And I'm happy about every video coming. Stay safe
It's wonderful Uri. I am genuinely happy for you. You bring wonder and laughter into our live and deserve all the goodness & happiness. Blessings & health to you and your family 💙
Even your workshop is a work of art. And omg the lathe! Drool city. I only have a mini lathe from Harbor Freight and that’s my fanciest machine lol. Absolutely a privilege to watch your work!
Congrats on the new shop! That corner in your living room had been growing like a living organism that was begging for it's own space. And moving to a new space is like a rite of passage, isn't it? But that drill press, haha! Had a similar rattle can, that died after 2 days.
Looks like a great new space, and that lathe is beautiful. Wouldn't in the least be concerned with the squeal, old equipment always takes a ton of adjustment and endless bearing preload and lubrication experiments, but I personally find that relaxing. Bet when you're done it will cut smoother than any modern stuff.
Very pleasing and humbling to see you creating your work shop with your most valuable possessions..your tools..can’t wait to see your next project video..
This is wonderful! A much larger workshop! I'm anticipating the things you will make with more room to work. I admit though, I like that everything you make is quite small. Anyway... Congratulations! And enjoy!
Fellow youtuber! I do know what it is to move entire shop. Also how expensive could be to buy simple OSB boards, plywood and other construction materials to just protect walls from scuffs and dents in workshop. Just moved in into new place myself. I feel you...
