Firefly.. the company we keep trying to love.. years ago during the whole Firefly 338 sellout on amazon when they were introduced I decided to buy one of the FF338 in Blueburst.. I played it some.. lowered the action and was changing the strings a while later and the neck pocket released (warped i am thinking) and cracked the heel.. and the neck went into a natural WARP.. so that become my guitar for "practice" tearing it apart.. refretting etc.. still would love to see less stories about issues.. but maybe we are not the lucky ones.. This guitar looks great and well done.. its those details that must cost another $ 100 that is missing..

Basic ground issues should never make it past QC, no matter the price point. Hopefully, FF is paying attention. No guitar owner (especiallythe beginners of any age) should ever have to pull a cavity cover off, 5 mins after opening a box, to chase down an electrical problem. Of course, I'm not suggesting guitar players shouldn't LEARN this stuff, as it's never hard, but, they shouldn't have to deal with it on a "freshy" out-of-the-box guitar. Great video, as always Mike! The seller will figure in the small upcharge for a custom build from aliexpress. But yes the right builder will definitely do what you need. Make sure to message the seller so you have good communications about what you may require.

60 cycle hum typical with single coils. The position you don't get the hum is the noise canceling position you find on every strat. 😊

The hokey "finish" sands off real easy... It's not conductive shielding paint. Clean the sandblasting media out of your pots, out from under your knobs, out of your pickups, your trem cavity, your pickup routes and keep an ear out for rice krispy sounds coming from your tuner gears. I admire your admiration but they could've come up with such a better relic job with so much less work and spent the extra pennies on dipped and tumbled hardware. It's that super weird thing that happens when Chinese people imagine what American people want. We'll see if they'll ever bother to get their basic details right. They put a 15" radius neck on their copy of the Fender Troublemaker, with a 12" radius tune o matic bridge. That's silly at best, more likely just dumb, cynical at worst. I'm not judging, even tho it sounds pretty judgy, but given your auction pics can't we just say out loud Firefly is the house brand for a Chibson/Chender factory? Its a sales tax/importation fee evasion thing. They're like semi-reformed counterfeiters that will occasionally stand by their product, if you lean hard. They got themselves on Canadian Amazon tho. That return policy has got to f'ing burn man...

I just got the same basic guitar and took it all apart. I got the $149 one, not the ash body one. Here's what I found right and what I found wrong with the guitar. The input jack didn't work correctly. It had that common issue where the jack wouldn't seat correctly. They had the jack sitting flush with the jack plate like it's supposed to be but it didn't give enough room in the hole to push the jack in all the way. I had to find a work around, either get a different jack or adjust the jack so it sticks out 1/4" from the plate, which works, but doesn't look perfect. The neck pocket, neck, and bridge are all non-standard in that they are different sizes than the Fender standard so you can't use the neck or body with Fender parts. Which is really f'ed up, IMO. Why don't these companies making cheap guitars make them fit with Fender guitars? They could sell a million of them! It has the worst tuners I've seen in a long time! I can't remember the last time there was play in a tuner where you can turn the peg 1/8" until the gears engage! And the down side is that they are non-standard size tuning holes! WTF? They're like 8mm or so holes and all the tuners on the market are either 8.5mm vintage or 10mm modern size holes so I'll have to drill them out! It has full size no-name pots with push back cloth wire, which is weird. It has typical alnico magnet pickups which I didn't like the sound of at all so I'll replace them. Last negative is that they dyed the fret board for some reason (looks really nice, though) but they got the dye on the abalone dots so the dots aren't round. Now for the good news. A standard Fender size loaded pick guard will fit all the holes except one which you will have to either drill or leave empty. The body is mahogany and very light (a LOT lighter than the ash!). The relic'd job is really nice. The frets are really nice and rounded and very smooth. I didn't find any high or low frets at the medium high action it came with and the notes all rang out beautifully! Overall I would give it a 6 out of 10 because of all the errors and non-standard parts. It's pluses are a mahogany body and nice frets. I just bought an IYV PRS copy for less than this guitar and it is by far a better made guitar.

I have the same guitar and it was advertised as ash wood but I noticed on the areas I can see the wood the grain looks a little.to tight for ash..so I suspect their really using mahogany. Also. The tone is more subdued like mahogany sounds. Kind of disappointing. ROCK ON...

I bought one of the burst finish relics with the 3 single coil set up. It's the third FF I have purchased. All three have been very impressive for the price point.....Not perfect though. Two have high frets and one has the old microphonic humbuckers. The types of issues that you should 100% expect on an ultra budget instrument. Not a big deal for me as I used the high frets as an excuse to buy the tools necessary to fix that problem. I will say this though....My burst relic has one of the sweetest neck profiles I have ever felt on a "Strat." Definitely a very modern C shape and fast af. I think FF guitars are really good for what they are. Ultra budget instruments have come a long way in the last ten years. These guitars may need a little work and may not be perfect for beginners. But they are solid foundations for those of us who love modding guitars. And they make excellent platforms for learning how to work on your own guitars.

I just in the beginning of video ya my black elite i can see that the headstock inlays are stickers i see the square outline! 😂 I didn't know that about locking tuners i messed up on my Mitchell ill have to set strings up correctly now Thanks for the tip FBS! The springs must be weak if the tension plate is bottomed out? thats weird they did that.. love the guitar Olympic white is a favorite of mine too one day I'll make my hardtail SRV Charley Strat! 😂 gotta be a east fix with your electronics Awesome video FSB!

4 things factor in the trem tension. The size of the cavity route (The span of the cavity), The Claw adjustment, the amount of springs, and the spring gauge. It's nice to see that they made a good balance allowing for claw adjustment without leaving the screws way out. My Schecter has the screws almost all the way out, this is because the cavity is such a long span. Thanks for watching my brother. You rock as always!

I've been happy w every FF I've recieved. Having been aware of the risks with each early purchase, such as bridge post and other QC issues. So I rolled the dice and mostly won. Having bought 5 between early 2020-and late 2021, i only received one with an issue - a faulty selector switch. So i bought those and like 'em. Then on cyber Monday (2023) I thought I'd look-see if they had anything of interest. I bought 2 FFTL models, the Mad Cat (SS) and standard T style in Olympic Wht. Both came cosmetically flawless, great intonation, and I was yotally impressed. I consedered a relic model, but saw several on RU-vid that were unimpressive. That said, my experience has be good, and since i dont need or want multiples if the same models in different colors, I'm good. I have what I want. I always enjoy your vids. Good stuff.

I just got the FFTL Classic Model ELECTRIC GUITARS ( Honey Burst Color ) and it is better than expected. There was a few minor finish flaws but the pickups are much better then excepted , it stays in tune well and came with about the same action as that Strat you got. There was a issue with the string catching on the last fret but I just filed it down and it is not a thing now. It's a nice surprise to get a decent guitar for this amount. What a value. As far as the extra charge I have been looking for it but haven't seen it.

sweet "relic" job bro! it looks wayyy better without the back cover too! my peavey raptor1 has the "wheel" style trussrod adjuster as well....at least ya dont have to remove the neck every time.....like you do with some "F" models haha!!

The locking tuners do work on my example. It is now strung properly and they hold as they should. One problem however, was that when they relic these guitar's the sandblasting media gets into everything. The tuners were full of sand. I had to clean them and grease them.

Ya never know what your gonna get when you buy an inexpensive guitar sub 200. Mine was way more than I expected ...except for the tuners which Firefly made good on. I played it out at a bar and sounded great.

I would buy this with the expectation that I would immediately replace the entire pick guard and pick up assembly, wiring, and possibly tuners. Even then it would be way more affordable than lots of other options. Looks great.
