Had 3 newfs growing up.Couldnt swim in the lake at grandpas house without em jumping in to "save" you.Gently grabbing you by the forearm & pulling you back to shore. We had to tie them up & then they went nuts anyway, so we had to take them to the other side of the property where they couldn't see us swimming.Such big loveable bears!😍🥰
Same. As soon as my newfie saw me treading water “too far, time to rescue you!” Was the instinct. My mom even considered having the dog watch us while she went inside (I was 9 and my sisters were 3 and 4), because she knew she’d keep us safe.
One of our first Newfies "rescued" a kid from our pool. He was only playing around but the dog obviously thought he was serious and came to the rescue. They are the best breeds ever 😊
@@solaurelian7638 When people spend generations breeding dogs for a purpose, surprise, that's how they develop. Well, Newfies were developed to rescue sailors. Their whole lives are watching after people. Pitties? Not so much though I always remember the one named Sharkie that babysat poultry. That's one.
When we take our newf to the beach she plays life guard and tried pulling us back in 😂 in the newfie rule book it's okay for them to swim but not their humans! Best breed ever 💜
My newfie Cleo would do exactly that whenever I swam out too far for her to be comfortable. Whimper, then chase after me. She’d herd me back to shore by pushing me with her paws and licking me.
I have a newf mix and when I swim out and I don’t come in he will come and get me just like that. I also had a newf when I was a kid and she jumped off our pontoon boat in the middle of the lake. We had to swim her to shore because we couldnt get her 140Lb butt back up on the boat lol
"Newfoundland dogs are good to save children from drowning, but you must have a pond of water handy and a child, or else there will be no profit in boarding a Newfoundland." - Josh Billings
For God sake, be responsible pleeease !! teach the dog to discern inlaws from families !! Don't rescue indiscriminately !! Shouldn't be too hard as dogs got good olfactory nerves, they can pick up in-laws miles away. I even could do that while I m having a bad cold !!
