Those looking to transfer to UCLA may soon have an easier time doing so if Gov. Gavin Newsom's budget is approved, but the plan has raised concerns from some in Westwood and elsewhere in the state.

I don't understand these comments. You need to have good grades and take specific courses to complete an AA-T. I did an AA-T program while getting my regular AA at a CC to get into the CSU of my choice, which had denied most of my friends straight out of high school. I wouldn't have known about the program if it wasn't for an amazing counselor that I had initially visited to help me add a class. It's a tool for many students that began college unsure of what to do, before finding something that they are passionate about and would like to continue studying at a higher level.

UCLA will continue to have a good reputation even if it’s going to implement a transfer guarantee program Every schools purpose to provide accessible education and the UC schools are no different from any other school, whether it’s a community college or ivy leavue Also times have changed costs are insanely high for tuition so tell your daddy that before making a statement without any prior research

So obvious that he is targeting ucla because of the sports move. Just ridiculous to drag in the academic side of this for his political gains.

But why? Of all things to worry about and with how transferring from a community college is already pretty high if you get the grades, why do they need to move it up to a 100% guarantee?
@leyu22
@leyu22 Год назад
they can do this guarantee admission thing with CSUs. Shouldn't do this with UCs especially UCLA and UC Berkeley.
@MsMiaWallace23

Why ? An AS-T helps those who work hard get into a school, they have to get good grades.
@leyu22
@leyu22 Год назад
@@MsMiaWallace23 good grades are not enough to get into UCs, that's the point. To use AS-T for acceptance at UCs is insulting to those who not only have good grades but also have terrific extracurriculars.

@@leyu22 extracurriculares are a privilege. Not everyone has the same privilege.

I think extracurriculares are overrated. If students get good grades at community colleges and take challenging classes, that is most critical for UC success.

@@MsMiaWallace23 anyone could do extracurriculars. You don't need privilege to volunteer for things Beach cleanups, Work experience, helping out at homeless shelters, participating in food drives, playing for a team, joining a school club etc.

Getting a good grade in a community college is so much easier, and it will lower the reputation of the school.
@LOSTGPS
@LOSTGPS Год назад
That makes very little sense since one could reasonably assume that community college courses are harder than high school courses. Also, people who transfer (especially as AS-T) have proven that they can produce and progress, that's the point of the AS-T programs.

now compare that to Florida where governor de santis is requiring all state college students, staff and faculty to submit a yearly form on their political beliefs, if the find that the institution is leaning left, they will lose all state funding .... a perfect fascist authoritarian control over the education system ....
