FACTS! I would say that the current version of Sunday Night Football on NBC is the best and the version NBC used in the 1970s and 1990s along with ESPN in the 1980s round out my TOP 5!
Hell yeah awesome! I am literally getting goosebumps hearing this. Hello everyone and welcome to another Thanksgiving day game here at the Pontiac Silverdome. Where the first place Chicago Bears are playing the Lions to hold on to first place, and the Lions are playing for pride at this point if the season. I'm Pat Summeral along here with John Madden for one of the best NFL traditions. Growing up in Detroit this was that one time a year the Lions would get a national audience with Pat Summeral and John Madden and as a kid I was so excited to see my guys and my stadium in the spotlight.
Actually, CBS began using this theme with the 1981 season. They used it the first three weeks of the 1986 season before replacing it with the "Pots and Pans" theme.
Wow just had a major flashback. 10 yrs old start the day with some Atari 2600 then 9am pre game show then 10am gametime, hoping the Rams were on. Man I miss this, great stuff.
Best theme CBS ever making my eyes water! Montana, Dickerson, Fouts, Singletary, Danny White, Jimmy The Greek! The real NFL!!!! Not this Bullshit they call the NFL, nowadays
San Francisco, California. A city known for its restaurants, its cable cars, the Golden Gate bridge. But not for its professional sports teams. No pro team has ever brought a major world championship to San Francisco. And yet, this afternoon, the football 49ers stand just two steps away from a Superbowl title. Their hurdle today is more than formidable: the Dallas Cowboys. A team whose tradition is as rich as San Francisco's is barren. Dallas this afternoon seeks a record sixth trip to the Superbowl. And what of the fans here at Candlestick Park. Are they ready? The Cowboys at the 49ers...today...for the NFC Championship AND a place with the Cincinnati Bengals in Superbowl 16! CBS SPORTS PRESENTS...... THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. TODAY'S GAME: THE DALLAS COWBOYS AGAINST THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS. Everybody talks about the weather and here's the way it shapes up: 58 degrees, a light breeze, chance of rain, none. Clear and mild, after six and a half inches of rain earlier in the week. Hi everybody, I'm Vin Scully, and welcome to Candlestick Park...
Vin Scully's final intro for the NFL ON CBS before joining NBC shortly after where he would do play by play for MLB games through the rest of that decade. I miss his play by play calling for both networks. His voice was tailor made for that profession exclusively.
@Arthur Anderson and let's not forget the fact that the Oakland Raiders (January 30, 1960 to May 7, 1982 and July 21, 1995 to January 21, 2020) had also won Super Bowl XI (1976 season) and Super Bowl XV (1980 season), before moving to Los Angeles in 1982. Now, they're the Las Vegas Raiders.
Roberto Lopez Scully is a legend but he’s no Summerall when it comes to announcing football. Summerall was the best TV football play by play and Scully was the best baseball play by play guy.
You are looking live on a beautiful day in East Rutherford NJ as the Giants take on there arch rival Eagles ,Hello again every body im Brent Musburger .
I was a pre-teen and later a teenager when this was the theme song. I'll take it in a heartbeat to what CBS uses now. It also takes me back to an era when there weren't as many ego maniacs that aren't team players on the field.
Let's go back to the 1983 Season Don Robertson: CBS Sports Presents.......The National Football League Today, the National Football Conference Championship Game. The San Francisco 49ers vs The Washington Redskins
CBS Sports presents the National Football League. This afternoon, from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, it's the Cincinnati Bengals vs. the Indianapolis Colts!!!
This here...was/IS the best NFL TGEME MUSIC ON EITHER NETWORKS...BAR NONE. (In my humble opinion) Really got me going Sunday mornings as a 12th grader - 2 yrs of college then USAF...my youth. Miss this theme the most.
Pat Summerall's closing line from the tease of the 1983 NFC Championship Game: "Montana and Theismann. After today, one of them is going back to the Super Bowl. But ONLY one."
CBS Sports presents...the National Hockey League! Tonight, from T Mobile Arena, it's game one of the Stanley Cup Final between the Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights.
Thanks for putting this together. I'm guessing you had to take different pieces from different intros to the games to compose this one since I don't think an official version has been released. I remember looking for it about a year and a half ago, but couldn't find it on RU-vid. Glad someone decided to step up.
@@louistenore2185 Yes, indeed-- he was CBS Sports' main man (college football, college hoops, NBA, Sports Saturday/Sunday/Spectacular, NFL [and The NFL Today]-- you name it, he did it).
He's still alive (in his 90s now)-- I don't know how we'd get to him to say so though (I grew up around his voice as well, having been born in 1981; of course, I didn't know who it was at first).
If Don Robertson were alive today, he would say something like this: CBS Sports presents the best in the National Football League...the American Football Conference. Today, the Baltimore Ravens take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, from Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
1985 was that who did the VO? I was always wondering who did it? That said if only they can do the 300 Violins Orchestra for Monday Night Football on ESPN?
Don Robertson is alive, just no longer on CBS (retired for just over a quarter-century); nonetheless, that's, I think, what he would say and how it would sound.
Ah, yes - as others have mentioned or alluded to, I picture myself listening to Pat Summerall and John Madden welcome the viewers to a game featuring NFC powerhouses in the 1980's (mostly Redskins, Cowboys, and Giants, but also Bears, Rams, and 49ers).
True. But it seems that no thought into production, other than focusing in on personality of players instead of personality of teams rivals and city of rivals. And how many jerseys can we sell of a player that will jump ship and go for the biggest dollar signs and support the newest cancel culture endeavor.
I watched the Cowboys v Redskins today... on CBS today and it’s like listening to a funeral procession going by. Even though it was pretty exciting near the end of the game I noted that the broadcast is lame. I also noted FEDEx Field was about 90% full. Pretty lame, back in the day Football was a mans sport. Now I will give it to DAK he took a hell of a lick. But in my day we took the lick and moved on. Watch Danny White 1982 NFC Championship Game... I am not in favor to people getting hurt, but this constant Instant Reply is what is killing football. It would be competitive if they made it all real time and if a bad call was made this year for sure we would get them next year... I haven’t watched a full game since 2016, with lame whining and lame National Anthem protests it’s no wonder the NFL is struggling and please get rid of the Pink..... if you want to raise money for a cause don’t desecrate a mans sport with PINk... do it on your own terms... they have raised nearly 18 Billion on this cause and we still don’t have a cure.
