This is the original "Pots and Pans" theme. For the 1989 season (the last year that the "Pots and Pans" theme was used), CBS remixed it to give it a more electronic, harder edged sound. tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/Clas...
they dropped the ball when they were attempting to switch themes for Super Bowl XXI onwards ! What became the SEC on. CBS theme and when CBS had the big game again 3 years later, they premiered the new theme for the upcoming season!
Ah dude....thanks for posting this!!!!!!!! Gives me chills. Back then, it really sucked if you missed the intro to a game. Especially when it was getting toward the end of the season and it was a key division game. I loved the end when the stadium would flip to show the real stadium.
I remember on the sponsor plugs in the 80's the great don robertson leads us with and says "CBS Sports coverage of the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE is sponsored by....." instead of today where the current voiceover says " the NFL on CBS is sponsored by" back then when robertson said it ,it had a meaning, it had a prestige, it had a idenity of it. nowadays it dosent have that swagger to it
I Wish CBS Sports create a Heavy Metal/Rock-Orchestral remake of the "Pots and Pans" theme in time for Super Bowl 53! And I Wish CBS Sports use the new graphics for the NFL on CBS for it's Centennial season!
A great tune for the NFL...imagine if CBS had kept this theme song for today's storylines, especially with the Colts and Patriots. Thanks TMC1982Part2 for the upload! By the way, TMC, can you do the same thing you did here for the "Pots & Pans" theme for 1989? I so wanna hear that one too. Thanks.
If CBS sports can bring back the updated version of the college football theme for the SEC they can do the same for this version for the NFL on CBS I'd like to see it.
Back in the day hearing this along with the great Pat Summerall narration before the New York Giants coached by Bill Parcells faced Joe Gibbs Washington Redskins in the meadowlands or RFK Stadium in Washington DC
True, CBS sports coverage was the S.H.I.T. back in the 1980's. Only ABC's coverage of baseball stood out around this time. NBC got their game together in the 90's, especially with their famous theme for the NBA, "Roundball Rock."
One of the hard things was except for the strike weeks and a few rare events, "Pots and Pans" was always interrupted by the presenter discussing game notes. Imagine this style used today -- something you wouldn't see in today's sports world. College football and NBA broadcasts also used this interrupt the theme for the presenter style.
There was another guy who had about six or eight openings from playoff games with his intro but he got shutdown and I'm pretty irate about it. I'd sit there and watch them probably once a week.
this is by far the best intro theme music for ANYTHING that I have ever heard-I have this in my car and truck as pump up music and will crank it up wide open windows down no prob..............over and over.............somebody please find the 1989 or the superbowl version and PUT IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!
Technically, the theme that you're referring to, debuted during CBS' coverage of Super Bowl 24 (49ers/Broncos) at the end of the 1989 season. It lasted through the end of the 1991 season, when CBS debuted another theme (composed by Frankie Vincini) for their Super Bowl 26 coverage.
This song is great, but can someone out there please make the 1989 version of this "Pots and Pans" theme? I especially love that one, because of the electric guitar sound.
