This album encapsulates the sacred stories of 'Te Iwa o Matariki' - 'The nine Stars of Matariki' and how they became to be, according to Māori - The First Nation People of Aotearoa (New Zealand).
The Nine Stars of Matariki: (Commonly known as the Star Constellation, Pleiades)
Matariki: siginifies reflection, hope, our connection to the environment and the gathering of people.
Pōhutukawa: connects with those who have passed on to the spirit world.
Waitī: connects to fresh water bodies and the food within.
Waitā: connects to the ocean and the food within.
Waipunārangi: connects to the rain.
Ururangi: is the star associated with the winds.
Tipuānuku/Tupuānuku: connects to the food that grows within the soil.
Tipuārangi/Tupuārangi: connects to the food that grows in the trees.
Hiwa-i-te-Rangi: the youngest, the wishing star that also ties into our aspirations for the coming year.
