Vancouver is a dumpster fire and fans are sick of 50+ years of mediocrity. A few jerseys on the ice pales in comparison to half a century of abject failure and incompetence.
For the Devils one. It was 3 overturned goals in a game that would of had them beat the all time NJ win streak record had they won. I think ANY arena in the NHL would of had crap thrown onto the ice with that context.
So you can only throw things onto the ice because of something you like, such as hats for a hat trick? I don't see what is wrong with throwing a jersey onto the ice to show displeasure. I think it's entertaining.
If you have the right to throw hats when happy, you have every right to throw stuff when mad. They're adults,(aside from JT Miller of course) they can handle it.
Have you completely missed how brutal Leafs, Habs, and Oilers fans have been to their team the last few years? Hell, Oilers fans literally booed their players as they were walking from the concourse to their dressing room. That was Pre-McDavid but that always resonates with me. Canadian fans are brutal in general

I was at that Devils game. One of the craziest sporting moments I’ve been too. Although I have to say, I was really pissed off as well. I think everyone was pissed because it’s ruined our winning streak.
The devils one is just the fans being sore losers because 2 of the disallowed goals were obviously no goal, it's maybe just the first one I think that could've gone either way... But regardless of all that, the devils were literally having a 13 game winning streak so it's common sense that it's going to end at some point!!

Worst I ever saw in Atlanta was after some very suspicious referring (I mean how does a guy with the puck get caled for tripping a guy 10 feet behind him), the free mousepads the fans received that night, all were returned via the ice surface.

Just so you know I'm not a Canucks fan but Vancouver is not known for rioting. There was a few strikes in the early 1900's and the riot in 2011. If you had good friend or family member that told you I just got a good opportunity for work but I have to move to Vancouver, would you actually say don't go there they riot a lot ? No.
I learned something watching this, I know you can't directly kick the puck into the net, but I thought it would be an allowed goal since it ricocheted off another player before going into the net.
I think it's the "shot on goal" part that is crucial. E.g. you can kick it to another player, and they can score regularly (or without a kicking motion), but if the last contact by your team is an intentional kick, even if it goes off a defender, it's not allowed.
As a person who has a large jersey collection it makes me sad to see people throw there jerseys on the ice honestly props to Dumoulin for giving the jersey back to the person in the crowd
How in the world did the Flyers-Caps game years back get missed for this vid lol - Team's owner just died - Gave away bracelets to fans who came to the game - Fans got pissed off, started en masse throwing those bracelets on the ice - Lou Nolan on PA tells fans if they keep it up, the Flyers will get a bench penalty - Caps fans in attendance then proceed to throw theirs on the ice - Flyers get a bench minor penalty 🤣
Out of all the examples on the video NJ is almost the most understandable since they had 3 goals pulled back, even if they were right calls... Bunch of other fans threw jerseys over their teams just losing and Rangers-fans threw beer bottles over a completely obvious goalie interference call.

2 things you can throw on the ice 1 - a hat for a hat trick 2- a rubber chicken when the game turns into a gongshow, unfortunately this tradition has faded.
Well said however those items are for specific teams only. The rubber chicken went everywhere from the pro to junior ranks. Now it is a distant memory.

City of New Jersey? First off, it's in Newark NJ. Second, that stadium fills up with a bunch of transplants, a lot aren't even NJ fans. Most of NJ is pretty tame and empty, North Jersey is definitely an overpopulated, shit hole and it sucks the stadium is there and not further south or central away from New Yorkers.

The Devils had NO reason to throw things onto the ice. It was an obvious call, they were just on a win streak of 13 and things finally didn't go their way for once. Boo hoo.

Late to the party, but I'm a Sens fan, and I couldn't be more frustrated with my team right now. Even during dumb-ass games, I could never imagine tossing my sweater out onto the ice. ((Granted, the only time I've ever wanted to burn a sweater was when I got 'Heatley' on the back.)) You support the team, thick and thin if you're a fan. I don't condone throwing things onto the ice but this should have been a good goal. There is nothing conclusive about that being interference. Strome's stick touches the pad but that doesn't mean he actually pushed it, the goalie looked like he was already going down. You really think Strome can push the goalie's pad like that with just one hand? The actual reason this was called off was because the call on the ice is no goal. 50/50 calls usually go with what the call on the ice was. If the call on the ice was a good goal then they would have counted it, but nope. Very frustrating loss, especially since this was Hank's retirement game and we would have went into OT.
How often does this happen? Is it like a once a season occurance? Because in dutch soccer at least once a season seats fly onto the pitch along with heavy fireworks. Drinks and food on the pitch is a weekly occurance. I'd take vancouver or NJ fans over the average ADO or NEC fan
When ever we see this much debris thrown out on the ice. The league needs to either end the game in the favor of the visiting team or simple clear the fans out of the arena. There is no place for this kind of adolescent behavior.

A player could just as easily slip on a hat that was thrown with no regard for the player's safety, all in the name of joy and celebration, and the same can be said for a jersey thrown in the name of anger and frustration. What if a team hat was thrown on the ice in anger? What then? Should the visiting team be given the 2 points because Jimmy threw his hat on the ice at a time other than a hat trick being scored? The players wear a lot of protective equipment. People aren't throwing big rocks or anything. You can't really say you can throw stuff because of one specific emotion but not because of another. I would prefer people didn't throw stuff because it just delays the game and really doesn't make any sense but I understand that people do stupid stuff (not talking illegal stuff, that's not what we're talking about) when whichever emotion is running high. Sometimes it can be perceived as warranted and other times not so much, but they stupidly do it anyway and I can deal with that. I'd rather a bag of candy hit the ice than cars being flipped over and set on fire when they leave the arena.

New rule: with the exception of hats after a hat trick or the traditional Octopus in Detroit. If there's a 5+ minute break to clean up shit thrown on the ice, the home team must forfeit the game immediately.
That NJ leafs game I believe was rigged should of been a tie game that went to OT no way that was a fair game sports betting and the league pull that little shenanigan I believe

I was hammered so that put me into a blind rage and one of those beer cans on the ice was definitely mine lol when they told everyone to stop throwing stuff on the ice that just pissed us off even more and we were yelling insults at them an the refs. to this day I still think that was a horrible call
I don't blame fans for throwing jerseys on the ice. You pay 300+ for a game and the team doesn't even try for the vast majority of the 60 minutes? It's natural to be pissed. Losing isn't a good reason to throw a jersey, but playing like shit on purpose and not showing up for the game is. You are being paid millions of dollars to do your job. You need to do it every shift because these exact fans are paying you.
