unless its a 3-0, but yeah i get what your saying. 5:15 cant blame the Markstrom one bit on that. one of the best stick breaks ive seen, well deserved too.
The blues 3 on 0 breakaway from their own goal line is one of the most bizarre hockey plays I’ve every seen at the NHL level. The level of unfair that Markstrom had to endure on that play is something I wouldn’t wish on any goalie, just no chance whatsoever to stop it.
I wonder, can you intentionally move your own goal while the three players are still midfield and take the penalty shot of only one player? It should increase your odds of saving significantly, but it's unsportsmanlike...
@@karelspinka3031 That has happened in the AHL. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qKXbNjBh9So.html. The goalie was facing a 2-0 breakaway, turned around and just heaved the goal off its moorings. Then he proceeded to make the save on the penalty shot. Markstrom probably should have done the same thing, especially with a 3-0.
I laughed so hard when that 3 on 0 happened. As a Blues fan who's least favourite NHL organization is the Canucks, it warmed my soul. Also, re: the goalie knocking the net off intentionally during a breakaway, I'd almost suggest an ejection for that. Toss the keeper and force the coach to throw in a cold goalie for the penalty shot, for such a blatant unsportsmanlike move.
@@BlueBagger83 Seems the NHL may have learned from that AHL event. From the official rules, Section 9, 63.7 "If the goal post is deliberately displaced by a goalkeeper during the course of a "breakaway," a goal will be awarded to the non-offending team." So if Markstrom had done that, St Louis would still have been awarded the goal. Probably credited to Schenn, since he was first to catch up with the puck.
Dan Boyle putting the puck into his own net for the Sharks against the Avs in the playoffs was one of the most brutal endings to a game I have ever seen: SJ absolutely DOMINATED that game but just couldn't get one past COL. It was literally comical the number of grade-A++++ chances they had that didn't end up in a goal, which led to 0-0 going into OT. They won the series and Boyle even got the 1st goal early in the next game, but man was that game 3 ending just BRUTAL lol.
@@glaxko2 One cup in 50 years and being 1-6 in the finals in that time and blowing a 2-0 lead in 1991, a 3-1 lead in 2004 and a 3-0 lead in 2010 is really not much to be proud about.
I remember watching that very first one live, with Kovalev and Souray bumping into each other, and it was extremely obvious that there should have been a slashing call on that play, and it still is extremely obvious today.
I witnessed a crazy overtime goal in Colorado against the Habs tonight. In OT, the Canadians shot the pick and it just squeezed by Georgiev. However, the Avs got to the pick in time to take it down ice and score. A very fun game to see in person.
watched him play vs columbus (with tampa) and he had 3 assists for the jackets and still won the game. entertainment plus is an understatement when describing mike smith.
I was at the San Jose Vs. Colorado game and the place erupted when it went in! There were some sharks fans by us and they looked so defeated it was amazing haha
Game 5 overtime between the Habs and Leafs sucked. The Leafs had a chance to win the game and win the series, but no! The Habs ruined it by making blow a 3-1 series lead with two ot losses and an infamous shutout. The Habs should be ashamed of themselves for making us blow a 3-1 series lead in the playoffs
@@mikulitsi1819 no, it's not the Leafs that ruined it, it's the Habs fault. The Habs should be ashamed of themselves for making us blow that 3-1 series lead
I'd love to see a compilation of Blake Lizotte from the LA Kings getting checked. Dude takes the hardest hits and just gets right back up. i swear he isn't human
Mike Smith's tremendous physicality and puck-handling were amazing but his over-aggressiveness and emotions prevented him from being one of the best goalies of all time.
Okay, but the Blue Jackets/Kings one is more embarrassing because of the rules. Johnny Gaudreau tried to use the hilt of his stick to knock the puck in, but instead it hit his glove. The reason this was allowed as a goal though, was because Kevin Fiala and Jonathan Quick simultaneously tried to stop the puck from going in, and ended up touching it before it did so. I find it silly that because the opposing team touched the puck while trying to stop it from going in(which would never have happened if Gaudreau didn't use his hand), the illegal glove touch was nullified. I definitely feel the rule needs to be modified.
Markstrom really needs to stop coming out of his Net …especially on the flying diving poke checks he has been burn on several Other occasions and hasn’t even successfully done one
The last clip didn’t the leafs blow it? Up 3-1 in the series. The teams I’ve seen/heard of blowing something Cleveland Indians 3-1 2016 World series Toronto Blue Jays 8-1 in the 2022 ALWC (American League Wild Card) this one was in the game not series Toronto Maple Leafs 2020 playoffs up 3-1
The Bruins got away with a blatant slash in the first one. And don’t say otherwise just because you hate the Habs. Turn the bias blinders off for once.
Habs fan here...nothing about that slash explains Kovalev's egregiously selfish response to it. I loved Kovalev and his time in Montreal. I don't think this clip is representative of his contributions to the hockey club, but this was nonetheless probably the lowlight of his entire NHL career. In that moment, pain or not, he was completely self absorbed. Even as a young teenager, I remember being very embarrassed for him.
You have to look at that play through the lens of the 2004 rulebook, not through the eyes of the 2022 league. There was no coach's challenge, penalty review or other such failsafes built into the game. The players knew this, and bailing out on such an important play in such an irresponsible fashion was simply not acceptable. The slash was real and it probably hurt quite a bit, but that reaction was NOT a good look for Kovalev, and it was demoralizing for the Habs and it left fans (including me) utterly bewildered and upset. On the flip side, Kovalev publicly accepted responsibility for the play when the press interviewed him the next day. His team got behind him after that and I believe the Habs rallied from behind to win the series, no small thanks going to Kovalev for game-winning contributions in games 5 and 7.
2:16 - My Son and I were at that game wearing our Jets stuff. We actually sat next to two Flight Attendants for Winnipeg. We were up high but right behind the net. I was like "That did not just happen. Oh shit. Yes it did."
We all know for sure Bergevin did everything on his power to make Galchenyuk a leafs, make him do the pass to Caufield and Suzuki to score the OT winner. All plan as expected, big brain Bergevin !
I understand the concept of getting the game over with, but this kinda shows how untraditional and busted 3-on-3 OT is. Too much space imo. If it was 4-on-4, that would be 10x better.
