Not being allowed to discuss both sides of an issue is tyranny.
@AKlover
@AKlover Год назад
Forcing your side at gunpoint is also tyranny. Ideologies and governments born of Marx will not proliferate except at the point of A gun. Fascism, or in our modern context "Cronyism" can stand on it's own if the middle and lower class perceive and receive some benefit. Produce your quota or get shot................. not so much, not at all really. Marxism's various shades will always fail because they deny human nature and disregard incentives. Fascism will fail because of nepotism and the insular "In Group" fail to read where the "Red Line" is.

They share one common trait......"We have it all figured out, we're here to save (insert victim class here), and if you don't agree and go along with it that then you are an enemy of (insert victim here)." Vicious smarty pants... All ends with a bullet.

Communism and fascism are based on hate. That's why they don't allow positive things to be said. Communists hate, based on class. Fascists hate, based on race. Any talk of nuance is anathema to them, for it takes away from their central narrative in support of their attempt to project their hate of other races and classes. Communism is more subtle, it hides hate behind academic words. Fascism is more frontal, it says what it intends to hate.

It’s worth noting that multicultural societies ordinarily require a large bureaucratic state to manage the relationships between the competing cultural or ethnic groups. You can’t meaningfully discuss the loss of liberty in the West without mentioning the loss of cultural self determination that multicultural and multiethnic society entails. It becomes easy for intellectuals to separate culture from studies of political ideology. This is primarily because we do not know how to measure culture. However the fact is that culture influences how political ideologies are realised. For instance Italy invented Fascism, but was nowhere near as murderous as Hitler's Germany. The extremisms of Marxist Leninism is also linked to the brutal culture of the Russian people that had only just freed themselves from a medieval feudalism. It is the dangerous cultural influences from outside Europe that most concern me today, which is often papered over by extremists of the left.

Soviet Communism emerged from Romanov royalty. Nazism emerged from Weimar democracy. Don't forget that difference. German Nazis were resource starved. After the League of Nations started the end of maritime imperialism, military colonial administrations were imploding, as in Franco's Spain. The present ideology has definately missed the point. Slavery in the US and the transportation of them by the British is, by modern standards, wrong but let's not forget that slavery has been in history for thousands of years. African economies relied upon them, while the Arabs & Muslims expected & used & enhanced them. Every race of the world has potentially been enslaved in the past by other races. Again, Let's not forget it was the British who blockaded the nth & sth Atlantic for about 30 years to stop it nor should we forget that the Portugese took more slaves to Sth American than went to Nth America.

Regarding the admiration of other cultures, it's perfectly natural to be enamored of the exotic. We see stories of this going back to Solomon and the Ethiopian Queen. The British Empire had it's infatuation with east Asian art and styles (note both the "farthest point" cultures from the interested culture). You see this continue with modern Western culture. I see all of this perhaps as part of a sort of cultural Darwinism where cultures try on different practices, which make inroads to various degrees, but most of which die off in time, leaving a residue elemene. Empire is sort of a less organic version of this change.

Take the case of India. It is definitely a net positive, the impact of British Empire on its natives. Note, it was not colonization per se in a India. There was no British settlement in India. Doesn't matter direct or indirect consequences. It is a net positive. 1. It freed the indigenous people of India from the 600 years of colonization by the Turks. The Turks did also colonized the Arabs and Iranians. They were also similarly freed from 600 years of foreign rule. Just imagine, if the mutiny of 1857 was successful, India would be similar to Afghanistan today. 2. Exposure to industrialization. 3. Modern universities were established, all destroyed by the Turki imperialist by 1300 CE. 4. Setting of great government institutions like Indian Postal Services, Indian Police forces, a professional Indian Army & Indian Airforce etc and an independent judiciary, ensuring rule of law. 5. And surely the ideas that came out of the American and French revolution that germinated ideas like modern democracy, republic and citizenship. There might have some republics in ancient India, but modern democracy is not the consequences of that culture. It was long since dead, thanks to the Turki colonization 6. A functional democracy, through elections and a written law book. 7.Indian Railways. Indian Navy. 8. Modern institutions like Archeological department, Asiatic Society, public hospitals, public schools etc opening up almost forgotten history of India. 9.And most importantly, a completely unintended consequence - a by and large a united modern nation-state called India. In spite of Pakistan and Bangladesh. In spite of partition. The civilization unity as one country was passed to the natives. 10. The left claim a loot of 45 trillion dollars. God knows how they reached that figure. Even if it is true. It was a worthy ransom - for freedom. All settled. But the gratitude will remain forever. Not to be forgotten A nation revitalized. Thank you.

The Frankfurt school thought that Maoism would save the communist project from "buerocratic socialism" and bring about a true socialist democracy... In 1969... After Mao had already killed tens of millions of his own people, and so severely damaged the ecology of China through arbitrary extermination of keystone species, diverting of water sources, and deforestation that 57% of China has undergone desertification. The kindest description that could be given of them is that they were romantic idiots... The fact that many of the Frankfurt school were ethnically Jewish is irrelevant, as Jews were and are overrepresented in every academic field due to a cultural prioritization on education, and one could make the same observation about Nobel Prize winning chemists, and even the polar opposite of socialism in the Vienna school of economics. Speaking as a Jew myself, ethnically jewish communist theorists barely qualify as Jewish at all, as they generally disdain and denigrate the culture, history, and religion of the Jewish people. Which makes sense, given that Karl Marx was raised Lutheran and internalized that church's anti-Semitic tendencies, and was also a malignant narcissistic who spent most of his life living off of handouts from his more successful relatives and was immensely resentful of them.

@@johnnydawson7675 The problem is that all of Marcuse's thought was within the logical context, the epistemology, of the Hegelian dialectical method. (Marx being a "young Hegelian" with a doctorate in Hegelian philosophy) The epistemology of the Dialectical method is INTERNALLY consistent, but it is very much NOT consistent with observable reality, and is inherently anti-empirical. Which is not particularly surprising, as it was originally developed because Hegel was unsatisfied by the fact that empiricism cannot answer metaphysical questions, and by the fact that empiricism is not "pure" logic, as it is built on a priori assumptions which are external to the individual. (IE, The universe exists independently of individual people, we are all inhabiting the same universe, the laws of the universe are consistent over time such that they can be demonstrated to other people through experimentation.) The specific problem with Hegel's "pure" logic is that, because it functions based entirely upon individual thought, that means that A. It is entirely possible for different individuals to come to completely different conclusions and both be "logically correct", and B. That all statements produced by the Hegelian dialectical method are inherently not statements of objective demonstrable fact, but rather statements of subjective individual belief. (IE. If your existing beliefs are treated as a priori fact, the dialectic synthesizes them into a coherent framework, even if they are mutually contradictory.) One could be the most "marvelous thinker" that has ever lived, and develop the most beautifully perfect theoretical system to explain the world, and still be observably factually incorrect if you have built your thought on a foundational epistemological framework of sand. The public writings of Herbert Marcuse, no matter how beautiful or inspiring, are ultimately statements about the logical implications of Herbert Marcuse's a priori assumptions and beliefs, and the only connection they have to objective reality is the fact that Marcuse objectively existed to make statements. Marcuse based his thought on fewer objectively incorrect assumptions than Marx did, but he was quite ignorant about the physical sciences, and especially biology, and he had a fixation on the works of Sigmund Freud despite the fact that the majority of Freud's conclusions had been empirically disproven decades earlier. Ultimately the core requirement for the utopia he envisioned to exist, was the creation of Marx's "socialized man", and fact of the matter is that the concept of "socialized man" is inherently inimical to the biological reality of all species. Marcuse's theories are ultimately the sociological equivalent of Lysenko's theories about botany. And attempting to actually implement them in society is likely to end about as well as when Lysenko's theories about "socialized" plants were implemented in the Soviet Union and People's Republic of China. (IE millions of lives ended, and millions more stunted and ruined.)

Ferguson gets the history and nature of fascism badly wrong here. Fascism wasn’t wiped out by 1945. Explicit fascism survived in Franco’s Spain and in the form of the Bathe party across the Arab world. Likewise, multiple Militant Authoritarian Nationalist regimes which could fairly be described as fascistic lasted for decades across Latin America and Asia. While these regimes recognized nationalist divisions, their persecutions were not primarily based on nationality but on perceived loyalty to the state of both groups and individuals. Ethnic minorities could, and often did, thrive under fascist regimes when they avoided getting embroiled in leftist politics. Also, Ferguson needs to avoid the topic of race based slavery in the US. He neither understands it nor recognizes the sensitivity of the issue. That’s inexcusable in a historian who should have the sense to realize that an issue which was central to the deadliest violent conflict in a country’s history is a touchy subject.

This is especially the case for historians, like Ferguson, who claim to be struggling against political correctness and cancel culture. Such a historian should be able to apply the simple litmus test of “do my words sound like something my unreasonable enemies would say?” If so, then they should reconsider their words, and their positions.

He is wrong already in the first minute and a half. First, communism saw (or still does) the society divided into _economical_ classes, not just classes and, equally importantly, that people are mainly if not entirely driven by their economical interest. Second, fascism does not have racist component to it, he confuses it (as many people do) with Nazis. Fascism was based on the conviction that a state is the primary force and it has to be led by a strong central figure. The state is more important than individuals and to control people totalitarian means have to be used. Individual has to submit to the nation, but unlike in later German incarnation the nation was not equated with race. Moreover, in the 30s some European nations were ruled by autocratic regimes who were akin to Italian fascism but hostile to German nazism which had already been recognized for its murderous tendencies. So I gave up at 1:40.

Four large camps were built in southern and western Siberia shortly before Stalin's death in 1953 for the Jews. A special "Deportation Commission" to plan the deportation of Jews to these camps was created. Nikolay Poliakov, the secretary of the "Commission", stated years later that, according to Stalin's initial plan, the deportation was to begin in the middle of February 1953, but the monumental tasks of compiling lists of Jews had not yet been completed. "Pure blooded" Jews were to be deported first, followed by "half-breeds" (polukrovki). Former CPSU Politburo member Nikolai Bulganin said that Stalin asked him in the end of February 1953 to prepare railroad cars for the mass deportation of Jews to Siberia.
