Former East Yorkshire Motor Services 305, now 164 at Z&S Transport
The 4th and final “Bucks & Borders” videos, filmed entirely in Buckinghamshire but near the Bedfordshire border at Leighton Buzzard
Technically this bus shouldn’t have been on the road at the time as it’s officially a school bus for the 811 but Z&S are cowboys and they never learn, so it was out on the 165 for some of the summer holidays
It does sound a little tired but it’s been well maintained, still has the lovely whistling Allison AT545 and thrashes nicely! Doing very well for a 20 year old bus!
This bus was working Route 165 between Aylesbury, Friars Square Bus Station (Bay 9) and Leighton Buzzard, High Street (Stop 4) via Wingrave and Cublington

Only Z&S can keep one of these in service! They can keep a bus in service a long time with the right mechanic, decent staff work there. It has been on 165 several times since because I think they have got some sort of permission to use it occasionally in public. Really enjoyable video, many thanks

@@mrmarcrumbleton8300 The Euro3 and Euro2 Darts are two different characters. In London, the oldest bus in London is a Plaxton Pointer Euro3 Dart with a Allison AT-545 gearbox and it's one of the nicest Euro3 Darts ever. When they stopped making the Allison AT-545 Gearboxes, the Euro3 Darts that were made after 2002 were never the same again and didn't feel as good as the Euro2 Darts and the 2001 and early 2002 Euro3 Darts with the Allison AT-545 Gearboxes.

Definitely! Euro 3 Darts just aren’t the same for me. Most don’t even have the whistling AT545 gearbox! And I don’t like the fact they sound far too much like the first gen Enviro200s (which I hate with a passion) This is a proper Dart! Not that Euro 3 crap!

@@ChilternTransportProductions the first generation enviro 200s are also darts and have the same engine as the euro 3 dart just a euro 4 version which is why they sound similar, the euro 3 darts and the enviro 200 darts are just horrible! They sound like tree shredders!

@@TransbusTrident I mean depends on which operator had them cause some were tuned to do long distance and motorway work so they had a high torque which meant better Acceleration. And those ones I love the other euro 4 ones are shit

Same here! Reminds me of the time I grew up with Arriva’s P and N reg Darts in Wycombe, and they had those lovely, very comfortable bench seats that I knew and loved 👌 And that was quite common on 90s built buses. After 2000 though, not so much

They tried to modernise a heritage design and failed MISERABLY. I’ve been on those Boris buses and they’re ugly, poorly designed, poorly layed out uncomfortable heaps of shit

Oforid222 Official No but that’s not because Wright went bust. The New Bus for London (also known as the “Borismaster”) was Boris Johnson’s concept, ordered when he was London mayor. It actually stopped when Sadiq Khan took over because he doesn’t like them, so some did get delivered after the change but that was the last of Boris’ order Sadiq was overseeing No more new Shitdecks and Shitlites however IS as a result of Wright going bust

It is but as mentioned in the description, it’s technically a school bus Z&S were just being cowboyish and shoved it on a normal service route whilst it was school holidays in the summer. They're not supposed to but I don't care. I'm an enthusiast! It's not my problem, and I got to claim a 20 year old Dart for haulage, with a whistling AT545 and great thrash!

I have to admit, I do owe it to these cowboy independents for keeping these old Euro 2 Darts going and giving me a chance to bash them in 2018 and 2019 And I feel lucky to have these in Buckinghamshire, not too far away from me even after I've moved! Not something you'll find in Oxfordshire or Berkshire....

Z&S Don't Plan TO Get Rid of These. The last dart They Scrapped Was Because It Kept Breaking down Oil leak ETC. And Because It Didn't Turn Back on after Tested at Z&s When they tried to start it up. With-in that I was on the following bus.

Very well indeed, I agree! I have honestly no idea on the speed. Would have been at least 50mph, could have been 55mph but I doubt it would hit it 60mph. I’d say you’re right That whistling Allison definitely does sound beautiful, I love it as well! It’s just pure Nostalgia for me! 😌👌

Very well designed and built buses for what was meant to be a cheap solution on both city and country routes! Very versatile with the wide range of bodywork available too, no wonder they were so popular everywhere!

If you ever want to get on a Euro 2 Dennis Dart this year there is V380 SVV which is in service and still operates.

@@ChilternTransportProductions Company is Southdown PSV and the bus usually operates around East Grinstead, Crawley and Redhill, you can contact them about it and they will tell you if it is out in service or not.

I’ve got a vague idea of where Southdown PSV operate - I did their 554, few Scania/Enviros and a Lowlander on rail rep last year! I knew they used to have V reg Pointer 2s but didn’t know any had been kept after they got new MMCs, so that comes as a shock to me! Wouldn’t mind sampling that at all! Any idea what routes it tends to work the most please?

@@ChilternTransportProductions it normally works route 236 but it sometimes is on route 422 or 424, it's not really allocated to any particular route, usually is on the 236 though.

Euro 2 darts are COOL! Euro 3 ones just don't feel the same, and the last euro 2 in my area has been withdrawn from use, only fairly recently aswell. Last October however I managed to get a STEP DART in regular service! (ex Kinchbus M406 HFP, usually used on school runs but has operated regular services a handful of times while it's been here in Huddersfield) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-91NZmYAeHpA.html

I 100% agree with you! I LOVE Euro 2 Darts but I just don’t care about Euro 3 ones. I don’t like them. I’ll have a look at your video later as I’m at a party atm but you’ll be please to know I filmed a Euro 2 Dart from another Chiltern independent today, so that should be uploaded in a week or two from now 😉

Neither can I! That’s why I sometimes go back and rewatch this for the pure nostalgia, even though I made the video myself Hopefully I’ll get to tick off one of those TPLs at Z&S sometime this year. Not entirely sure what other routes they do beside school work

@@ChilternTransportProductions Very occasionally Z&S do Rail Replacements (There is a video of LN51KYU last April on RU-vid which I think you've seen, you might note that that was an LNWR service (I believe) and they do them at Hemel as well sometimes. Probably best to email them, the only one of the 8 I don't think I've been on is LR02BCF, which had a horrific roundabout collision and has been VOR for over two years now. I'll let you know if I hear of any upcoming rail replacements. As for the video, will always be a favourite of mine! I don't know when it will be preserved but it won't slip through the net, not on my watch!!

Would take a Euro2 Dennis Dart over a newer bus any day. Shame they're quite hard to come by now, a shame as back in 2011/2012 most towns in the UK had at least one Dennis Dart whether it was a SPD or MPD they were nearly everywhere. The windows also look non-standard for a Dart like the amount you can open.

I know mate, same here. I remember the days when Arriva The Shires, Carousel Buses and First Berkshire all had Euro 2 Darts roaming about in Wycombe. Those were the good old days! I really do miss them. I'm just grateful the Aylesbury bandits keep some going for us in 2019! And then there's that 1 at Grant Palmer, if you can find it!
