Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left ALBUM REACTION│FOLK FEBRUARY 

Five Leaves Left is my favourite Nick Drake album. Pink Moon is obviously fantastic too and the most popular of the 3 but the instrumentation of the debut among other things is why I always come back to it. Some of the songs sound more optimistic and hopeful compared to Pink Moon too which, for me anyway is a bit of a change since a lot of my taste is very downbeat or depressing. Also, Fruit Tree, my favourite of the album, seems to predict the outcome of his life and his music. He really deserved better in his own lifetime but I'm really glad that you've really enjoyed this album. It blew me away a couple years ago when I first heard it. If I was to suggest any folk albums to you, I'd go with one of these: Bert Jansch - Bert Jansch (more traditional folk music) 1965 Tim Buckley - Goodbye and Hello (sort of psychedelic folk rock he's hard to define tbh) 1967 He also has an album called Blue Afternoon which is pretty jazzy so if you want some Jazz Folk you'd enjoy that from 1970. Ben Stafford - Beudy Penlan (modern alternative folk music, I don't know anyone who knows him so it would be cool to see you cover him) 2022 Josh Radnor - Eulogy, Vol 1. (the guy who plays the main character from How I Met Your Mother made an album and I think it's pretty good) 2023 All of this is under the assumption that you've listened to both Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel. Otherwise I'd say prioritise The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and/or Sounds of Silence.

I presume you've already listened to his first album - Bryter Layter? would definitely give it a go, it's quite jazzy and like you say about five leaves left its more instrumently rich than Pink Moon. (not to take away from Pink Moon thought)

Drake's being overlooked or outright dismissed in his lifetime mirrors Van Gogh's being overlooked or outright dismissed in his lifetime. Shameful how genius can go unrecognized. And once it's gone, it's gone.
