It's so true. I'm no Nicky Ryan but I recently took a cool white belt under my wing. He's a 2 time Olympian in a different sport, about 7 years older and like 10x the athlete I am. But dude is humble and listens to every word.

long arm short arm detail is so helpful. I now realize I was having issues with my bodylock pass from locking both arms on the back, sometimes not even being able to get my hands together before we're flat on the ground, leaving the pass too loose.

The detail about not wanting to be perfectly symmetrical behind the waist or in really deep to actually pass from the body lock is super helpful. I always find myself unintentionally wrestling on my knees in the close guard from a body lock pass attempt and that gets so annoying even if I can get a deep underhook, depending on how good they are I’m about to enter triangle city and wind up like Chael vs Silva lol

Can we get a more in depth video about how Nicky deals with the half butterfly in body lock passing? Against somebody with really good sticky hooks also. I'd say that's what I have the hardest time with in body locks. I have a really hard time hitting those hip switches Nicky hits without them following me. The one thing that works for me is to walk to them to the side and insert my own hook/staple on their bottom leg, top pummel/front pummel or knee cut across from there.

Awesome footage, been really thinking about the bodylock recently. I like seeing one of the detail Nicky uses in the rolling footage, if they try to work from the butterfly once you've passed the knee on their other leg, he puts a butterfly in from the top to hip switch away from the buttefly and to the farside.

Leg is still stuck. Hence the wind shield wiper to free it and thus your other leg is on the wrong side for mount.

This is the pass I use on everyone, but for some reason there’s one guy at my gym who just can not get this pass to work on (he’s a black belt). The issue is that he always finds a way to squeeze his hands in and get overhooks on the arms and then sweep me. I can never get past the first step on his and I’ve been trying for literally every night for months.
