The Scottish parliament voted by 86 MSPs in favour of the bill to 36 against the bill. The Scottish parliament voted in favour of the transgender recognition legislation not just the Scottish government.

@@ericsmiffs6418 If you want a genuine answer to this: just because someone detransitions doesn't mean they need to denounce the entire idea of transitioning. It obviously isnt for everyone as not everyone is trans. I have been in many trans communities and whenever one of the people in our groups decides its not for them people are perfectly respectful about it. There can be so many reasons for someone to detransition and it really is their own journey. The problem comes when right wing media groups like to take these people and use them for their own gain, whether or not the detransitoning person is anti trans or not. I would (and have) listen to a detransitioner to learn their story any day as long as it wasn't obviously some grift used to attack the trans community. And for what its worth, increasing funding and awareness of trans care would actually help detransitioners as we would have more resources to help someone determine if they are trans, and help them if they change their mind. We are constantly restricted in our resources which results in people relying on their own research and rushing decisions and that will never get better if you don't give us the time and resources to trust the system

Yes they do, there are all sorts of individuals who may commit acts of violence but that doesn't mean that all people of one group are violent people. People should be treated as individuals.

The attention given to male victims of domestic abuse pales in comparison to that given to women, despite males making up a third of the reported cases (not taking into account the fact that 1 in 7 male victims are too scared to report). And you want to get on your high horse because somebody dared to mention that a male can be a victim too.

Abusive people are a risk to people. To label all people of a community or group as carrying the same risk as the worst of them is the worst kind of discrimination.

I agree that abusive women is not the topic here and that mens abuse of women is the larger problem. I think that Nicola Sturgeon gave the right answer in this interview. But as a woman who did a brief study on the topic in university I just want to add that it is also about women. At least here in Sweden there is a lack i support for abusive women so they do not get the help they need to stop being abusive. And then there is the abuse in non hetronormative relationships. It is not apparent when is the right time to discuss those. Our study found that a big part of the problem with these other types of abuse situations were that the people involved are not believed when they seek help because so few knows that these kinds of abuse eaven exists.

As for why I oppose transgenderism, there are multiple reasons: 1. It's an incoherent worldview, and I believe truth has inherent value. 2. There's a push to control how others speak or run their business, etc. in accordance with it. and admittedly a distant 3 would be concern for trans people themselves. It obviously isn't easy on them living out this worldview they cannot defend logically (either to themselves or others). This idea is shallow because it assumes the mantra that "all people's brains are either 100% differentiated as male or 100% differentiated as female, during development", without considering the possibility that there are sometimes developmental anomalies, either in utero, or during childhood and growth. I.e. the idea you're repeating doesn't have a compelling explanation for the reasons why transgender people behave as they do.

The confusion is artfully spread by people who want to deny other people the right to be themselves. First time I learned about trans was forty years ago so it’s not as there hasn’t been enough time to sort things out in the law. High time to have more empathy and less worrying about other people’s genitalia.

It’s rather strange that transgender is suddenly an issue. You would think that it just started yesterday. It’s been around for a long time and the sky haven’t fallen. Is it now a problem because many ppl are more accepting of it so the ones who aren’t feel somehow threatened. Mystery indeed.

Yes, indeed. Psychological abuse can be a serious problem for women at the hands of men, and for men (or women) at the hands of women. And for that matter for men at the hands of other men (psychological and physical). Abusive people are scumbags.
