If you've been thinking of picking up a Nighthawk M1 router or unite explore with AT&T and getting unlimited data you need to act by March 1st 2018. There will be no exceptions, either you get it now and get grandfathered in or you don't get it at all with unlimited data.

so it doesn't use hot spot data? It uses cellular data, like a phone plan?

Uh are you trying to boost the wifi or the cellular? If trying to boost the wifi (beyond the max range setting in the configuration of the device) I would turn off the wifi on the device (nighthawk) and use the lan port to run to a switch and then to access points around the property. If your trying to boost the signal from the towers to the device you might want to use the t9 ports on the nighthawk to connect to a directional cellular antenna. Netgear sells antennas for the device. Hope that helps

Hi.. i just bought the router..I’m having a problem connecting any device through ethernet..i think its disabled and i can’t find anyway to enable it in the settings is there any way i can enable it?? Other than that the wifi is perfect

Any update on your external antenna with the m1? I'm in a similar situation (rual) 1 bar of service. I have 2 directional yagis I mounted on the eve of the house but I'm only getting 10mb down .5 up I had them mounted at opposing 45 angles when I tested on the ground and was getting 25 mb up and down...but I switched the antenna to opposing 90 when I mounted them so I hope that is my issue, just a pain to get to the spot where they are mounted so I've yet to climb back up there to make adjustments. Was wondering if an omni antenna would be a good option...anyhow just fishing for knowledge, thanks for the videos!

Hi Mike Marchese, I used a netgear directional antenna. It works but the angle of the antenna needs to be always perfect. It didn't quite work out for me because of that fact. An omnidirectional antenna could work if you don't know where the tower is but you always get better signal with a directional one just keep in mind you're actually limiting the netgear's total performance by half as it has 4 x antennas internally and only two through the external antenna port

I may try to move the whole unit up I the attic and drop a ethernet line down to a router, I've seen post about it going into a sleep mode which requires a reboot, so going up there just for that would be a pain, waiting on some dry weather to do some more testing!

If I buy one of these "unlimited data netgear nighthawk router" listings on eBay or amazon, would I be able to switch my sim card out of my z700a and plug it into the new nighthawk? I assume the IMEI of the router in these listings are already grandfathered in? I have the unlimited plus plan, but unfortunately I found out after the fact that AT&T won't allow the new routers to be used. So I'm back to square 1 and $35 poorer due to the restocking fee lol

Dylan Millay it needs to be on a grandfathered plan and active, if you move sims, then no dice. Think of the restocking fee as a rental. I'm sorry the window closed atat could see this was too customer friendly and had to "fix it"

This is not true. I took a sim out of an extra line I have (old unlimited plus plan) and it works fine. Already used 100gb this month so far. You can tell when the tower gets busy though.

I also tried a straight talk sim in my unit and it worked as well with the right APN settings.

@@MrBooMY3 do you have the att version or the regular Netgear? I'm curious if att has software on their version to show it's a hotspot and not a normal phone line.

@@boobagrx Mine is the non ATT branded (Netgear) MR1100. It doesn't get identified on my plan but when I tried a MF279 it was but it still worked fine.

@@JamesMccorn Well how much was it? I am placing a order for the same model but unlocked. It has Tmobile. Luckily for me Tmobile is super fast in my area. With speeds around or above 100 down.

Well I shouldn't feel bad, I just ubifi internet. Real unlimited 4g LTE service. At&t with the nighthawk MR1100 would be amazing when 5g rolls in in a few years.
