It was 1979 and disco was in its prime. Larry Himmel and photojournalist Tom Zizzi set out to explore San Diego nightlife. Five nights and five of the hottest clubs in town-that was their assignment! Mission Valley was the place to see and be seen back then so four of the clubs were there. One in Point Loma. If the disco wasn’t your scene, there were other options. When these stories aired in November 1979 on News 8, they helped people decide what club was right for them. So yes it looked like they were having fun-and no doubt they were-but they were giving our viewers valuable information so they wouldn’t have to waste their time. So let’s teleport back to ’79 - you might want to put your dancing shoes on and join the party.
Maxi's
Crystal T's
Flanagan's
D.O. Mills
Rasputin's

This is what everyone worked for; Friday & Saturday nights, partying & letting loose, just leaving work & business at home! Great times….

Larry was simply the best. I miss him, but not disco. Jaberwocky above the Town n Country, Rasputins in Pt. Loma, Salsa night at the Cortez, San Diego nightlife was the place to be. Thanks for the memories. 🙏💪🌍🌎🌏❤️🇺🇸🖖

Top of the Arc at the Travelodge on Harbor Island was awesome! I Worked at the hotel as a bellman. I would sneak up to the club after work underage. Best view of San Diego as you were dancing. Aw, memories. Also the hotel had a room with mirrors and a round bed. Room 909. 5 feet from the club. Does anybody else remember?

@@BigBadJerryRogers I listen to everything from Fela to Death Metal. I am stating that in '79 Disco was dead. "Hip" people were already listening to punk and New Wave.
@johnlucier5654
@johnlucier5654 9 месяцев назад
@@DiogenesOfCathis piece was about night clubs not music. "Cool" people were not going to punk clubs, and in the end, punk rock sucked. Ill agree disco music was on its last legs in 79, however some still liked it and it evolved. Im not so sure that not following trends or fads just because everyone else is makes you lame.
