Actually, yes they do. Two within 75 miles of where I live had break-ins and dogs stolen. They take the dogs, not for their monetary value, but to use them as bait dogs for illegal dog fighting. The shelters that were broken into are in rural/semi-rural areas, not downtown in some major city. All the shelters around here know to be aware of who's around and looking.

I have a Blue 💙 Heeler Pitbull mix. Once he leaped out my truck window at another dog on side of the highway. He was leashed but short leashed thank God. 😢. Immigrants from Italy, to whom we owe meatball spaghetti, are Italian-American. The U.S. is kind of unique in identifying people by their immigrant heritage like that, but the U.S. is also unique in being a country of immigrants.
