Hey buddy..Wacken was obviously a special occasion, a magic night, but NW churn out these performances EVERY time they take the stage. When you see them and when you hear Floor live..there's nothing like it. I've seen Freddie M, at his peak, the Stones back in the day, I've seen plenty of legends (M.Jackson, Bowie, Pink F Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Van M, B Dylan...) but never have I had tears running down my face while punching the air with enthusiasm...and that was NW back in 2018! Thery're a phenomenal band and we're just lucky to be around whle they're still at their peak! Go see them.

Hello Taylor. I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. I'm dutch and in the Netherlands we have a tv show called "beste zangers" (best singers) and there are 6 singers from the Netherlands that perform a song af the artist that is in the spotlite of that episode or a song that ment a lot for the singer in the spotlight and in 2019 Floor was in it and most of the dutchies never heard of Floor because metal is nog main stream here and i'm a metal head and at that show Floor said she was the front lady of Nightwish so i looked it up on youtube and i was hooked there is not a single day that doesn't have a Nightwish song. Floor is dutch and i asked myself....under what huge rock have i been living??? after that show she is famous in the Netherlands like she should be much earlier because in my opinion and a lot with me, she is the best and most versatile female vocalist i ever heard she realy has no equal and thank you for a great reaction and greetings from the Netherlands

Just six months ago I stumbled on to Nightwish and Storytime by accident through a reaction by a father daughter team. This was midnight when I could not sleep. OMG, what did I experience !!!! No other band has even come close to connecting with the listener as Nightwish and Floor 💥💥💥💥💥

I feel you, Taylor. To me, there's only one comparisson to make, and that's Queen's performance at the 1985 Live Aid! concert. Both bands, while not performing for their regular audiences, manage to grab, and conquor the audience at hand. Simply brilliant!

NWA Calgary Canada here...you won't quite get the reference yet but.....We Were Here.....each song you hear is going to be your next fav song....they are that diverse and good. This is our Valkyrie Goddess for you. And you witnessed first hand a "Dutch Windmill" and you felt it 😁, and to finish you off, The Operatic "Cruise Missile" !!!! Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch.😉 Awesome tune , although it is kind of a popish sound (originally sung by Anette), but Floor gave it soooo much POWER !!! And Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist and songwriter of Nightwish) is the main composer for Nightwish. Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. Nightwish lyrics are often a bit interpretive, and not as "straight forward" as many other bands, because Tuomas prefers people to put their own interpretations and life experiences into the lyrics. you connect with songs on a personal level when there is something there that relates to things you have gone/are going through, and you may even find new connections later on in life when you have gone through other big events/emotions. there might be songs you are quite indifferent about (oh, nice song) and then you go through something big and all of a sudden it makes you break down in tears because now you relate to something in the lyrics you didn't before, and see it from a whole new perspective. imagination and life experiences are powerful, and Tuomas has great appreciation of this. As a long term nightwish fan, I've seen them through 3 lead singers, and by far, I think Floor is the best. I introduced my niece to nightwish, she fell in love with them, and was lucky enough to go to one of their concerts, she said it was absolutely unbelievable, of course I'm jealous.

NW Army Bavaria North here, i think that was authentic:) some things i would like to say: Gabriel himself would surely brought it up, dont rush, dont do it on list, its an good guiding light, but do it your way, your pace your taste. there are prog songs, which are of course 120%production and composing value but not every mens Taste. NW Army is sonetimes very demanding, but also we are persistend, we wont leave after an vid or two or three, we stay and love to see reacts and discuss opinions. for years, as already shown, and no that arent channels who put up NW every third day, sometimes all month one. Because you asked: i invested aroung 400 Euros for Wacken 2k13.150 plus some fees were the Ticket( around 120 bands were playing on 7 main and some abroad stages for 3 Days), travel, tent, supplies:) it was damned hot thursday and friday, so alcohol would have grounded me, water was my best friend, and i think in this sumup were about 120 or an little bit more merch, mostly Motörhead and Nightwish.

Nightwish has a long band history with one special incident, newcomers will stumble upon sooner or later. Their first era (1996-2005) ended with the dismissal of their legendary primal singer Tarja Turunen. The band came into life, when Tuomas (keyboarder) asked Tarja to join his band project along with his friend Emppu (guitarist), after they finished school. They were visiting the same school and had been sharing stage together already with their music class. After appearances on local platforms and promising demos, Nightwish sent to record companies, they received the chance for a record contract and more nationalwide gigs. So they decided to add two more local musicians, Jukka on drums and bassist Sami to grow into a full band, which was in 1997. There had always been speculations about a possible relation between the head and main-composer Tuomas and his muse Tarja, he wrote tailor-made songs for. Yet considering Tarja's choice on men, that may never ever happened. In 2000 she started to date Marcelo, who became her manager and from 2003 on her husband. Marcelo once stated that Tuomas couldn't stand him from day one, as he was jealous on him. Yet both men couldn't be more different at all. Marcelo, often descibed as a blowhart roughneck versus the shy, introvert dreamer, Tuomas used to be. So Marcelo started to separate Tarja from the band, announcing that Tarja will leave Nightwish after their next album for a solo career, which never happened as Tuomas was no longer be able to write any more songs for Tarja, so the band opted for her early leave in 2005. There is footage from their very last concert in Helsinki 2005 on RU-vid (e.g. Phantom of the Opera), so you can imagine how devastating the fast spreading news were amongst their fans, so even the Prime Minister of Finnland needed to comment on their break-up. (***) "Never replace a legend, but the replacement of the legend" is the best description for their follow-up prime vocalists (#2) Anette Olzon (2007-2012) and (#3) Floor Jansen (2012-present). Although the band maintained their revenues due to two very successful albums "Dark Passion Play" (2007) and "Imaginerium" (2011), Anette fault turned out to be just the intermediate between the two legendary Nightwish singers. For many like me, current singer is the incarnation of Nightwish, as she is mirroring the versatility of Tuomas' songs in a way, not even Tarja could have done better. Another notable replacement took place in 2001 when bassist Marco joined the band, former lead singer of an already renown band in Finland, called Tarot. Beforehand, Tuomas needed to rely on male guest singers each time he was composing a duet. Unfortunately Marco retired due to mental issues in 2021, yet fans (and band) haven't lost their hope yet, as the band only replaced him temporarily by a session player for their upcoming tour. A second unfortunate miss happened in 2015, when drummer Jukka needed to step back due to health issues and was temporarily replaced by his friend Kai until he declared his definite retirement as a pro-musician in 2019. Last, but not least multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley became an official Nightwish member along with Floor Jansen in 2013, after he supported the band as a session player since 2007.

I'm jealous of YOU. You just got started. It gets better. You sir, should be considered a model for reactors. Your visual and audio presentation is outstanding. One stop in the middle to let us know how you feel then riding out the song to the end. No silly self ingratiating comments and your expressions speak volumes. I am so impressed. Gabriels list, though thorough, is a suggestion. However, I would hold off on the poet and the pendulum until you get a better grasp on this band. My favorite song from Wacken is Bless the Child. It is ethereal head banging at its finest. I don't know if it's on his list, but I think you would love it. Well done sir.

I really like your reactions. You seem to genuinely enjoy this and it remembers me of me first discovering these songs. I listen to Nightwish since about 20 years. Most of that time I only knew the studio versions. Except in 2005 where I have seen them live with their first singer, Tarja Turunen. (She was also amazing; you will get to know her when you follow Gabriel's list). When Floor joined and I discovered the live shows on youtube, I started to love them even more. Now I am waiting to finally see them live again! Currently about weekly there also is released new material from Floor Jansens Solo show. And there are other similar bands to discover. I am watching these videos and reactions for years now and it just doesn't get old. :-) I look forward to your next discoveries!

Welcome back to Nightwish, well worth following Gabriel's list which will include virtually every song from this concert as it was special to so many fans who saw and heard Floor with them for the first time having only joined them mid tour ten months earlier. Every song of 15 written forprevious singers and she nails them all.

I just watched and listened to this whole concert last night. FYI Marko the bassist can SING also. Floor now does head banging not her famous windmill. She will be 41 on the 21st of February. Her solo stuff is awesome and so is songs from her first 2 bands

Many of their crew have been with them for years - some over 20 years. They are super professional and family. NW helped support them while not able to tour due to covid and some of the crew released an album to make some money too, with NW blessing doing their own versions of NW songs - it was called Crewish :)

I stumbled into this amalgamation of wonderful folks in May of 2020. They are a truly amazing and supportive group. Just take your time with the reactions... you don't want to overdose on the band. Savor every bite. Sit back and enjoy the ride. BTW, I like the out-of-focus background... it gives a special feel to the video ... enhances the 'magic', if you will. Nice Job.

Filming a.concert is no small feat...and is usually done over 2 nights...1st night are the onstage camera persons and swinging booms that catch the closeups and individuals. 2nd nt is the wide shot. Idk if thats how this was done, but that is standard. The editor is genius, tho...this concert stands as one of the best live shows ever filmed, imo!

Turns out.... you're a metal fan!! Duuude! So many of us discovered Nightwish fairly recently and gone deep down the rabbit hole! When I stumbled on to Nightwish I was barely 60... I've missed out on 20+ years of their EPIC performances! There is so much NW and other bands in the same vein! Gabriel's playlist is an awesome roadmap... But there are literally dozens of bands with epic sounds, songs and lyricists. For example... Ayreon Avantasia Kamelot Epica Delain Evergrey (my current "deep dive", great vocals. Clear and intelligible) Blind Guardian Dream Theater Sons of Apollo And many more... For certain, NW is the epitome of the genre, but there is a lot to discover. Even Gabriel's playlist doesn't include a couple of sensational instrumentals that feature the 6th member of the band. You haven't been introduced to Troy Donockley yet. To stray from the well-worn path provided is not unheard of. And the riches there are plentiful. You'll kick yourself if you miss THE LAST OF THE WILDS, featuring Troy. Feel free to jump around the list if you feel the urge to check out songs that may fit your interests. They are all great. The entire 15 song concert at Wacken 2013 is some of the best of Nightwish, but there is so much more... Nightwish produce their own shows, and have a dedicated team, (aka Crewish) who put it all together, and take it on tour around the world. This is the big stage show, but they also have a production setup for smaller indoor theatre/club venues. Greetings from Canada.

I'm so glad you have found Nightwish! It seems you just might be a metal fan after all. 🥰They are absolutely phenomenal! You can't go wrong with any of Gabs recommendations. Or any of their music. IMO. Floor is married to the drummer Hannes from the band Sabaton of Sweden.🇸🇪 If you enjoy history, they are really cool. All of their music is about historical battles and events. They even have their own history Channel here on YT. They have a huge following as well. I would recommend starting with video for their song Bismark. They don't choose sides. We homeschooled our two sons and we use SABATON 's music to keep them interested in history. The song 40:1 live at Woodstock in Poland is Really good. It is about Poland, and performed on their Independence day. Very epic concert.

Grass on your second Nightwish. The list of our "General" Gabriel! Nightwish at Wacken 2013 will surely go down in musical history. The act before was Alice Cooper... Love your graphics layout :)

I have already subbed and liked this reaction, and you have such a fantastic road ahead. This woman and Nightwish had me dumbfounded, and I felt exactly what you feeling in first discovery of them. What sucks is you and I arrived late to this party, but so so much greatness already out to see.

Once you check all of the Wacken songs separately (because it will happen, you will not be able to stop :) ) I really suggest you to watch the full concert. Just then you will understand how good they are because it takes extreme talent and dedication to pull something like that off. It always baffles me that Floor managed to pull off what she did in Ghost Love Score, knowing that it was basically the end of the show and that she was probably exhausted but still managed to destroy it!

I have had the privilege of seeing Nightwish a half-dozen times, all in halls that held less than 5000 people (the smallest held less than 1000). They were magnificent every time, even without the huge pyrotechnics you see at the Wacken shows. The first time I heard them do this song live, their singer was Annette, who was the second vocalist for the band (Tarja was the first). Floor replaced her in the middle of a world tour and has been with them ever since. As good as the Wacken performances are, they were done when Floor was still new to the band. As terrific as she was then, she is even better in the more recent live recordings that feature music written just for her amazing voice (check out "The Greatest Show on Earth" or "Shudder Before Beautiful").
