+Dumocakes i dont know any western colleges that offer "anime" and "manga" as majors, but there are plenty that offer 2d animation as well as cartooning (which is making comics). If you live in north america check out american schools like calArts and SCAD or canadian schools like vancouver film school and sherridan. If you live over in europe or down in south america i cant really help, but im sure there are some in europe. Not sure about south america.

Well this is the best school i have seen so far, but I can't pick just one of the subjects. I love manga/animation, I love games and stuff like that, but I also want to learn to play guitar or bass. And btw it's so cool that one of the animators from the first season of Pokemon works there! :D

For the manga and animation course the "prerequisites" state that you need a diploma.. I'll be taking the 'Certificate' instead is it still possible to join.. because i've been really looking forward to going to a japanese manga/animation school :)

Oh man I'm so excited about this! I've been studying a basic course in japanese at uni in my country (Sweden) since I have a big interest in it but at the same time I had always been determined to become a video game developer. For the last year I've been trying to decide which one I'd follow as a career path... and now there's an option to do both?! I AM SO HAPPY!! The only downside is the tuition fee... does it get fully covered by CSN? It seems that the fee is much higher than the other courses so that's why I'm wondering. (:

Hur menar du? Jag vet många som får bidrag från CSN när de studerar utomlands - bl.a. en vän till mig som studerade japanska på Akamonkai i ca två år. Frågan är snarare om CSN stöder just yrkeshögskolor i Japan, istället för de vanliga språkskolorna. För det är som sagt svindyrt! Jag studerade japanska (grundkurs 1) på Göteborgs Universitet. (:

Hi Rafael, thanks for your question. Just to clarify: the Nihon Kogakuin language school and the Nihon Kogakuin vocational college (i.e. animation school) are two different things. The language school course can last between 6-24 months depending on how long you want to study for. Whereas if you go to the vocational college, you must complete at least the two-year course.

@@lost1202 well of you are lucky enough you can actually work in the industry at Japan, but ofc for foreigners the chances are lower. But since nowadays webcomic is a thing in my opinion wether I get to be a mangaka in Japan or start my own webcomic someday either way the skill I acquired would be still in use.

@@lost1202 I kind of worry about the same thing honestly, this is why my parents want me to take another major and get an actual degree for plan B in case it doesn't work out. Also even if you can't be an actual mangaka you can at least be an assistant or find other jobs in similar fields (character design, illustration, etc)

Hard to say... the oldest in my class is in their early 30s but if you were to be 40 I don't think anyone would frown upon you. Edit: i'd say the average student is in their 20s

We apologize for not being more helpful in that regard. Our students usually use their savings to come to Japan or use a sponsor who will support them financially during their studies.

You can study at the vocational school manga and animation or as a language school student you can take open classes for dance, manga and animation.

I'm sorry but what would be the difference of studying at the vocational school and the language school student? Different schools or requirements?

hi im a alumni at this school . The vocational school and the language school are different .There is a language school at this campus which prepares you for studying at the vocational school as classes are all in Japanese . You will need to take a test in Japanese to see if you can comprehend and communicate read and write in Japanese. Manga, animation and dance are all different courses . Technically you can do all of them not of the same time of course though doing all of those classes including the language school will take 7 years to complete . Each specific subject takes 2 years to complete . If you have time and money I'm sure you can do all of it.

Hi Mariko, thanks for your message. Just to clarify, the language course and the manga courses are separate - students normally go to study the language first before applying for the vocational college to learn manga (or other course). But yes, it is possible to study at this college long-term.

Does Go Go Nihon allow for students from South Africa to go through their programme?

Also, in South Africa, when we apply to Institutions we have, what we call APS score which is exactly like the SAT's that USA has. What the Japanese version called? What does Nihon Kogakuin College look for in my application? Do I need an art portfolio as well? What average should I have to guarantee a spot here? Sorry for all these questions. I'm starting my applications in 2017 so I need to know now 😊

Hi Dimensia, Some of our partnered schools accept students from South Africa. The requirements for Nihon Kogakuin's vocational college are as follows, students need to be aged 18 or over with a high school diploma or equivalent and have one of the following Japanese proficiency requirements - JLPT N2 or N1, a score of 200 or higher on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students or at least 6 months of Japanese study a Go! Go! Nihon Japanese language school. +Stunt Man Games I'd Recommend applying to a Japanese Language school so that you can learn Japanese and get good at it then when you're done, you can apply to this school and pursue your dream or goal.

+Neisan Land the college has a language course you could take for 2 years, you wouldn't need to take a JLPT but all courses in the school are extensively in Japan

Im looking for college school in japan. I wanted interior design for my course. But I dont speak japanese I cannot find school in japan that teaches in english for college. Please Help me.
