Watching Chris review shoes feels like i’m taking an Honors class for sneakers. Been watching sneaker RU-vidrs since 2011 (Shout out Eddie Win and YoAnty), but when I need a refresh or want to learn a new fact I always come back here.
I hope this is a one off, I really think it’s niche and really cool that they brought this back and told their story right. I was watching the heating up segment on SNKRS and the dude from the archive team did an amazing job. These are dope 🔥
I’ve never owned a pair of any Nike Air Max’s and today (On Air Max day) I copped this Big Bubble pair on SNKRS for retail, as my very first! And an ‘86 OG classic. So excited!
They finally fulfilled Chris’s wishes of going back to the bigger air bubbles which are closer to the OG’s!! Hopefully they start doing these with the 80s/90s Nike basketball models next!
I'm still on the fence about getting these. Good to know that they're comfortable though. That's kind of swaying me towards going for it. 😅 OAN, I need to know where I can get that X-men sweatshirt! 🔥
Watched Dj sneakerhead's DNA interview with a couple of the product managers/designers of this shoe and they said that the original '86 big bubble didn't get recalled, they just left it out and stores just sold their remaining stock. So basically there was a bunch of really rare, legit pairs floating out there.
I'm pleasantly surprised they actually made the midsole material soft again. The midsole material was also softer in the early air max releases. (up till about 91-92) The same soft midsole material that was used in the air stab and air structure, windrunner, air max light, air max 90, and big window, The 180 and the Huarache midsoles were already a little harder.. The softer midsole crumbled quicker. The 86 am1 also looks better I think because the laceholes were separated a bit further from each other horizontally like many other high end 80's nike runners. Kinda like the sides of the shoes were lower.

These are dope! I copped the AM1 Anniversary royals back in 2017. Only wore them twice. I’m scared to wear them because of the materials. One small drop of anything on the toe box and you will catch hell trying to clean them. Nice comfortable shoe though.
Just to point out, there was the Royal Blue colourway in this big bubble/prototype shape back in 1986. It was the OG women’s release with images you can find on Google! Either way, great video!
I bought these and the GOLF pair and I must say...the GOLF pair needs a comparison video because it's the winner. The midsole is a gloss white, the air bag has a blue tint and overall it's slightly slimmer height. The traction is a plus to me and the biggest win is the toebox is WATERPROOF.
Love your reviews. Was looking forward to this one. I also have been hearing all this new (to me) information about the cold and the change mid year. Very interesting. Love seeing the compression in the heal here. Like you can see the give I wonder how it will last.

I love AM1s. Was lucky enough to get the Safari's, Atmos Tiffany colorway and Pattas but the midsole and airbags just gave out. Every now and then I have to spend a bomb to sole swap them... Now I'll just get a pair every couple of years if I see something I like. Might just get this but not sure if I'll wear them often.
Love the wedding crashers edit lol. Anyway, stellar review as always guys. Love the AM1 in general and this release is no exception. Absolutely have to have these to go with the Royal anniversary pair in the collection.
I'm actually geeking out over these! I remember when they looked like this back in the 80s! Back then we called air bubbles "windows". LOL Having visible air was the gold standard once these came out! I just hope I can cop a pair for retail. Getting increasingly harder to do these days. 😩
I need a pair of these in my life! They look just about perfect. I do hope we get a few more other colourways, blue, green, yellow. I remember Nike's guarantee from the early 90's. Had the tongue on my 1st ever pair completely detach and they replaced the pair, no questions, no quibbles. Ended up with the Air Structure Triax which were a higher priced pair.
This was such a tough pass when I definitely could have hit the shock drop. I already have the last release of these without the big bubble, and the sketch version, so a third pair was hard for me to justify. Excellent pair though.
Those look fantastic! Takes me back when I first saw this. I was in 4th grade I believe. It WA the 1st time I saw shoes in that price... It was the price that really caught my eye..😂 but I'd buy 4 pairs of them now for what they cost then. 😁

Nike did a fantastic job with these. Talk about going into the lab and creating a true to OG retro. I do wish they came with packaging similar to the Air Max 90 recrafts.
When I was in middle school (early 90s) you could take ANY Nike to the original Nike town on 6th and salmon and get in store credit if the air sole “popped” They stopped doing it around 98 and people abused the system of course but come to find out Nike was using all those shoes to build new basketball courts around the Portland area so it is was a win/win for everybody.

Was wearing Nike Airs in the early 90s and they do break apart in 3-5 years especially if they get wet a lot, dry, and get wet again. They were way more comfortable though.
I just caught the drop with 3s left on Size?. I managed to easily get my size without much trouble and it sold out like 1 min later. I can't believe I actually copped something... I've been taking Ls all year.

These came back out in the 90s. With the regular air bubbles, I had the red and the blue pairs. Not too many people had them at my school. Now they got the big bubbles got to get them..
I had the original 86 model. Ironically, I had the forefoot air unit break on my left shoe. Back then, Nike would replace the shoe with the current model. No questions asked.
