@@EDDBUD I wore them for a 10 mile run and quickly realised that they were hammering my shins. My go to shoes for a tempo run would be either New Balance Rebels or RC Elite, both of which are significantly lighter and softer resulting in less leg fatigue
@@EDDBUD Nike must be about to launch a new Tempo Next%, as here in AUS, they're being run out at near half price. So in terms of our price 270 down to 140, which is 76quid......at 76quid, the fit, outsole and ZoomX & Air Pods can't be beat.
As this is still a current shoe I'll drop my 100mile cents here. As Mr. Edd Budovich says - it is an aggressive shoe. The cruising speed I find it can still tolerate is 4.55 -5.00m/km. Tempo - 2.30m/km and it still had more juice in it, but I'm no taker for that. The faster you go, the better it feels. All this together makes it a difficult shoe for interval runs, as your warmup/cooldown/inbetween will have to be at 5m/km minimum! The shoe requires a forward leaning position. When going up-hill (30 degree climb) its heavy but the bounce will get you on top faster. At the same angle downwards, due to the forward lean, will leave you wishing more, and the heel foam will just be an extra weight to carry. Its not as agile when cornering, but its not a 70's car either, so you just need to mind the trajectory and other runners when in a race. Pretty solid grip on tar and on dust. Overall Its an Ambitious shoe, so if you're NOT a seasoned runner that can keep up with the pace it requires - not offers, steer clear, and pick the FLY 5, otherwise your knees and shins will be paying hard & heavy. Ideal for anyone ready to gain extra per km and improve PBs during races, as long as your starting base is 5 and above.
It’s a fantastic shoe. There’s only a small handful of shoes that have provided me with a massive grin on first wear...and this one delivered. Took mine out last week after not wearing for a while and loved every step. So easy to pick up the pace and with minimal effort. Love them ❤️
I was on the fence about this shoe, and didn't buy it because of Seth and FOD runner, but your experience changed my mind. So glad I bought them, love the shoe.
I think his was definitely real, knowing seth he prefers a more nimble and fast shoe and considering its weight and how it runs, I'm not surprised he disliked it, he could have used it for long runs maybe but otherwise not much else
Good to have diverse opinions. I'm similar in shoe size and height to Edd so we're way diff than Seth, that's a factor. Seth's turnover and foot strike etc let alone height, weight and smaller foot clearly affects shoe reviews. Glad you're so independent, Edd! 👍
@@kaismithley6173 he enjoyed the invincible which is basically exactly the same weight and similarly clunky. I think shoes are just so subjective and it’s hard to tell which shoes a person would like by looking at it on paper.
What??? Better than the endorphins speed? Best Nike shoe on the market??? Wowzers that’s some strong conviction... you’re going against the shoetube grain, love the conviction!
I like it. This is one that's on my radar, but I think I'd have to try it first. Not so much love when they came out, but people warming up to it now. I just feel like it'll either work really well with my footstrike or not well at all.
I initially thought these were stiff and noisy and heavy, so I kept running in next and 4%. However, I took the Tempos out today based on your update. They actually felt pretty good and were decent in some light snow. This is the second time I've circled back to a shoe based on your experience. Thanks.
I’ve come back to this review 5 months on. I had these back in September and first time I went out I thought, “wow-clunky, noisy, but such a great fit.” I ran in them a couple of times, but sent them back and got some Endo Speeds instead. And do you know what? I’ve been sort of missing them....The Speeds are great and I’ve put about 150 miles on them, but they’re quite wobbly in my opinion. Anyway, Nike now offering the Tempo Next% in the sale for £102!! So I’ve ordered a pair in turquoise and am really looking forward to getting acquainted with them again! Having watched this review again I don’t think I’ll be disappointed. Just wish that I’d stuck with them first time round.......😉
A great shoe. Maybe like an album from an alternative band that isn’t for everyone but really hits the spot for a specific mood. Thanks for watching again 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
I love the tempo next% as a bigger runner i love the extra cushioning. Great to see a positive review as they have come in for quite a lot of criticism
Glad you like them! I liked them initially, but as time has gone on my love has only increased! Superb shoe which i appear to be able to run at high speed with lower effort. Heart rate is always lower. :)
Hesitated a touch before buying due to mixed reviews, however I now have two pairs in the rotation. Great for tempos, intervals, the more you put in the more it gives back. I’ve even done a long steady run also and felt good. I don’t wear for easy days as they just feel better at quicker paces. Good review , great shoe 🙌
I have ran in the Nike Air Zoom Tempo Next% (FLYEASE version) three times. I was able to achieve my fastest 10K and fastest half marathon. The air pockets work great and I felt the bounce like you mentioned in your video. Great video review! Thanks!
One of the most significant training shoe advancements since I bought my first Nike trainers for high school cross country in ‘79. Go up a half-size (to accommodate winter socks) and they also work surprisingly well on hard packed snow. Keep the faith!
Great review Eddbud, this shoe for some people (including me), a better fit than the Alphafly. Shoe fit, better bounce, more durable (though Alpha and Vapor Nexts are durable too), cheaper (on sale in some places), colorways (can’t wait to see more). This shoe breaks in nicely and I love how loud it gets. People get out of the way!!! Keep up the great content!
After I buy a shoe, I’m back on RU-vid looking at reviews again for it and you are always on top of my list. Love your stuff! This shoes wasn’t even on my wish list but saw it on clearance at the Nike Clearance Store today! $100 USD! I had a 20% off coupon and bam 💥 $80! For $80, this is an awesome shoe. This was shockingly quick to the clearance shelve here. Got it in the mango color and it looks sick.
I thought i had put this on , but had put on the 100 mile review of the Infinity Run. Throughout the video I thought to myself Eddbud is going in a different direction, no hat, hair styled like Tin Tin/mo-hawked and no musical interlude at the end, just an abrupt stop ! Devastated....... until I checked the date , Dec 2019 ! 😂 Good review all the same, as is this. Keep up the good work my friend !
I’m late to this party but just want to comment that I finally tried this shoe (on sale!) and LOVE it. I never thought it would be for me. Am an older, slower runner (11min mile average) so thought it was for much faster folks. That may be but I just knocked 40 seconds off my 10k pace and my legs felt fresh the entire way and after. Love the fit, feel and performance. Definitely worth a look! Thanks for the great reviews.
Lol, sorta like me. Achy knees, plodding pace, I’m better with cycling, but running gets me ripped. I also just bought a pair on sale $111.00 (!), can’t wait to try them out. Your comment was very helpful, ty for posting.
It's been over 15yrs since I've bought a pair of Nikes. Today, I broke that run, due to your 100mile review suggesting Tempo superior over the journey to Endorphin Speed. Thsnks Ed, keep up the great reviews.
My girlfriend has these and she loves them. She says it kinda pushes her to go faster. You're absolutely right when you say they are propulsive. Great review!
Great review Ed. I just bought these using the Nike valentines day code for new members. Looking forward to trying them in a colourway that i haven't seen reviewed - grey and gold.
Another great review Ed, hope you're right about them, got mine last week for £125 using the birthday discount, looking forward to using them in anger soon!
Fantastic review - fantastic shoe! I’ve recently picked a pair of the ‘curious’ black upper version which I will lace up again this coming week. My initial run out in them was quicker - and I wasn’t pushing it any more than I usually do… perceived effort was the same… Those boffins have found a way to make a running stiletto with that stack height!
I’m glad you like this shoe! I agree it isn’t the most versatile, and unfortunately it just not my cup of tea, though it certainly does have a unique ride!
Love this shoe! Such a fun ride and helps me move quicker. Only thing I would complain about is they are very loud. I sound like a Clydesdale running down the street 🤣
I WAS a big fans until the sole split, but Nike immediately refunded, so not all was lost. Need another pair. Great review and nice to see positivity over many sub-optimal reviews for this marmite shoe.
I love mine. I have gotten about thirty miles in it since new years. I got that colorway on sale for around $150 US dollars. I cannot wait to use my Alphafly after using these for some training and 10K to 10 mile racing I have done.
I trust your reviews more than anyone else, Edd. You were right when you said Alphaflys would be better for me than Vaporflys (I ran a PB in a half last year thanks to those shoes) and it's why I've not gone for Zoomfly 4s after loving the 3s. I think these will be my next shoe. I'm currently in ZoomX Invincibles as a daily and although I actually like the style I find them a bit dead and boring to run in.
@@EDDBUD QQ, I have rather wide, blocky feet. I have the Alphaflys in my usual size 8 and they fit me fine. I have heard that the Tempos are narrower, do you think I should go with size 8 again with these are go up a half size? Cheers, dude.
Spot on review Ed, a real winner this shoe👍. I’ve done 50 miles and they are ace. My only criticism is that they feel very stiff at the minute, although I excepted them to loosen up. Those AirPods work a treat!
I love this shoe! Im at about 75 miles in and they still feel great. My weight is 180 lbs so I have the weight to activate the shoes strong points. It seems like its the little light runners who dont like the shoe.... lol. Too bad for them! Keep up the good work EddBud I enjoy your channel and respect your opinion when it comes to running shoes
Good to see there is some support for the Tempo Next% and holding up at 100 miles. Haven't bought it yet but its on my radar, I fancy giving it a test ! Elsewhere its getting generally negative views on the mens side, less so on the ladies side.
Recently got this shoe and have taken it out on about 30k now and I absolutely love it already, I'm a big fan of my Zoom Fly 3s but this is just another level, bang on with the review Edd it's lockdown is superb literally like a glove! Think I'll have to stock up them just incase! 👌🏃♂️
Having watched this review, I was sold!!! Went for my maiden voyage in my new tempo next % and they are an impressive shoe!! Luv em!! Stable, comfortable and quick!!!!
said it at the first review...repeat it today.. one of my favourite shoes out there!! can't understand why people is so negative towards it. The pop underfoot on my pair standing at 200 miles remains a thing of beauty
Definite fan of the shoe, have the black and white version. I agree most with the lack of effort to get to faster times, me and a running friend went out to do our fastest half in these last month and were surprised to find the pace on the watch showing faster than expected with less effort. Trying to restrict my miles in these up to 34 miles now and yes we got the pb in these. 👍🏻
Very high praise indeed Edd. I would most definitely be picking these up if I had not been only 3 weeks into an 8 week, easy basebuilding phase of training. Once I start introducing speedwork into the game again I look forward to making these my go to shoes. Cheers.
Aside from getting offsides with Nike on the "hypebeast" way they launched the Tempos, I have to say I now love the shoe. I put up new PRs wearing the tempos at the 10k and half marathon distance. They feel fast and the energy return is functioning as advertised. My feet are wide and they are a snug fit but have compensated by wearing the Balega Ultralight socks. I also have the Alphafly which I'm using sparingly until races come back. The Tempos feel just as fast but the Alpha has more cushion for the marathon distance. I'm far from a Nike fanboy but have to give them credit for releasing two game changers in 2020, the Alphafly and the Tempos.
EDDBUD, great job witht the highend racers. Now could you delve into the modestly priced gems from different companies? I'm thinking the Brooks Launch 8, Reebok Floatride Energy 2 or 3, theAdidas SL20 v2, Asics Dynablast, and so on. Love your head-to-head compaisons.
@@EDDBUD I bought my first pair on the Nike member pre release thing and ran them to bits then bought a second pair. I alternate between Tempo Next and Endorphin Speed for every day use and I’ll be buying the ZoomX Invincible when that’s out as a genuine easy day shoe. Reviews I’ve seen on that so far are all incredibly positive.
I can't agree more with your review except.. on the price. It should score more since it is already on discount 😅. Bought my 2nd pair at US$100. I returned my Alphafly but bought a 2nd pair of the Tempo Next so totally with you on that. There is almost sth mystic about the Tempo Next% that makes me crave to take it out for a run over the other pairs in my cabinet, haha. Tq for the video.
Thanks for this review eddbud. Similar to you I have really grown to like this shoe. I have zero complaints and it seems to have really settled down now. I look forward to wearing it on my faster runs and intervals. It’s really quite easy to clean too so I don’t mind taking it out on wet days either. I’m going to check out that Kurt Weil album right now. Big fender fan here!
I think the sound of the foot strike was a bit exaggerated by most reviewers. I feel like the Alphafly’s sound is more pronounced. I’ve been surprised how much I’ve enjoyed this shoe at slower/faster paces. It doesn’t feel clunky, to me, as other reviews have proclaimed. Only drawback, for me, is the material on the back of my heel has rubbed it raw on a few occasions especially when running at a higher clip. KT blister tape has alleviated those issues though
I love that guy, i am writing a script surrounding mental health. I am livid that myself and Ben receive messages from trolls etc, how on earth can people be nasty to that guy? He is a wonderful and inspiring runner to all levels of athletes.
Hi Edd another Nike review wow! 😯 How I wish you’d got to a 100 miles in the RC elite??? I put off pressing for a pair only yesterday, waiting for your comments.
I’ve got 267 miles in my RC Elites, think they are a versatile shoe. Although stack height on paper seems quite high, feel very stable. Work on easier runs 8 minute mile pace, but better at higher paces, as you can feel the plate and “spring”. I’d use these up to a Half Marathon, I think for full marathon I’d want a slightly more cushioned feel. The grip is a key reason I’ve used them lately as country lanes very muddy and wet and never feel like your going to slip. The lugs haven’t worn either. I’d still race in the Vapourfly TBH but the Elite is probably the closest to them. Very snug fit, I should have gone up half size as tighter than the New Balance TC.
@@bearsareusjsbl £150 is a good price. I’ve noticed on very long runs over (12 Miles) my feet feel it. The New Balance TC was more cushioned. But I’ve really enjoyed it and still responsive and no visible wear.
Your opinion isn't really shared by the other reviewers, which is interesting. I think the shoe has broken down 3 times for Ben Parkes, he's kept sending his back...like the Inov 8 insoles suggestion.
Got the black and white version with a discount and after logging 600k in them I would rebuy them immediately if I could get them in discount again. On my first two half marathons I thought they were useless then I gradually beat all my PBs in training then shaved off 8 minutes on a marathon race in Barcelona last week (3h11'49). The sole is starting to present a bit of wear since I pronate a bit. I hope It can run 300 more k in them :/
I also switched to that shoe for all my trainings as I felt they improved my knee and hamstrings recovery. Also I never run slower than 4:30/km. Slower runner might not be able to rip any benefit with them.
Great review, fair play Nike, great shoe. Question Ed, across a number of shoes you've given perfect 3/3 category scores. I challenge you to head to head shoes that have scored perfect sub category scores to see which shoe TRULY is the sub category champion. Thrn, second challenge, buildvthe Frankenshoe which is the perfect score shoe of the four components.
Great review as usual Edd! You gave 3out3 for the outsole... One thing I noticed with my Tempo ones. They are very slippery on wet roads especially on those morning icy routes. Did you not have any issues? Ciao ;)
I honestly wouldn't use this for actual speed work it's a bit too clunky and bouncy, but for long runs when I tried a pair it was perfect for that sub 6:30 effort I loved it
My only issue is some rubbing on my achilles. Otherwise I love how it ensures that I run on my mid-fore foot. I've had some tendonitis issues and plantar fas. issues. With these shoes, those have been going away. I love the speed I can get in these!
Love the musical interludes Edd! Have you ever listened to The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads by Lift To Experience? I think it's the kind of madness/genius you might enjoy!
I think i considered it for a while but the shoes feel so different on foot i sidelined the idea. The tempo next% is immensely better from my perspective. :)
Can I ask why you don’t think it’s suitable for a daily trainer? I can’t really justify multiple shoes in rotation for different purposes. I wear mine for 5k, 10k and half marathons and I find them super comfy and I recover so well the next day with these shoes, which is more important to me than pure speed. Although they do feel really fast to me, I feel like I’m being propelled forward.
Hi, the Nike tempo is the go-to shoe. I have set my PB in these shoes, and I feel fastest when running in them, comparing the same course in another shoe. I am getting ready for a Marathon in a month and am considering running in the Tempo's for this reason, fast and comfortable. So what do you think about my assessment?
Hello Ed, just had my 1st run on the tempo next% and for some reason, had some issues with the lacing and felt discomfort on my right fascia after 6 miles of my run... had to change socks too for better fit... I really hope that the discomfort goes away as soon as the shoe breaks in, hopefully... but my first experience was not that pleasant at all. Worth mentioning I'm with the flat feet fam hehe. Cheers
just picked up a NikeByYou pair at that clearance that someone returned for $100. Can't wait to take them running. Only downside is they replaced the flyknit with mesh.
Great review Edd!! Many thanks! Unrelated: Are you hearing anything on the Hoka Mach 4 (March release) colorways please? All I've seen is the white/yellow combination. Thanks!
Totally agree with everything you said. Mine have about 200 km and look amazing. Only problem is that on my right show there is that little rubber problem under the airports, but nothing too crazy. Would you recommend getting another pair?
Great shoe, I have about the same mileage in mine as you. I' m curious how it will last in future. Ben Parkes has busted the Airpod on two of his pairs after around 400km.
Interesting review I never really considered this shoe before your 100 mile review. I wear a 7.5 US size in Zoom Fly 3 and have a wide foot Should I size up to a size 8.
EB, I'm looking for a shoe for faster long runs. Wondering if I should consider this? I have the Endorphin Speed but I just don't feel like it's a good shoe for me for longer runs. I notice there's not much support on the inside of my feet and my feet tend to roll inward in the Speed unless I'm really going fast. I have 1080's for slower/recovery/normal mileage days, really would like something for races and for longer tempo runs. Could the Tempo be that shoe? Thanks for your review.
This one is a bit of a yes or no type shoe. You will love it or not so much! The pods take some getting used to so maybe order from a store of which have a good returns policy. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
@@EDDBUD I happen to have tried both today, Tempo a better fit especially the upper, but for me the 2 zoom pods in the forefoot make it feels a bit unstable. Bought Invincible 3 in the end, heel slip does happen but marathon knot solved it, but the upper feels stiffer than any Nike running shoes I've had, hope it would loosen up a bit after a few runs.
Me too Stephen. I felt it got a bit of stick early on from some. Though more of the top level dudes like the Welsh Runner and Ben P love them. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Edd, love your reviews and content. Thank you for the consistency. I have an idea... you should make a ranking list of shoes based on your rating (a bit like how Top Gear used to keep track of Stig’s fastest laps in supercars 🤣). I can’t recall an 11.5 before so it must be up there - a good way to start the list maybe? All the best mate, keep it up 👍
Firstly, great review of this shoe man - spot on! Appreciate your videos! Always come to your page for reviews. Okay, enough praising... I got these (barely volt ones) on sale about three weeks ago to put in rotation with my Infinity Runs and Adidas Adizero Pros. Got home after a 15km run last week and the one air pod popped. Not sure how that happened as I only did road running. Sent them back to Nike today for a refund (why dont they do straight exchanges???? lol - I need to pay more now for the same thing as they are not on sale anymore). Now wondering if I should get a new pair and risk another air pod pop. Is there any other shoe you would recommend with the same responsiveness vs mushiness? Or should I take the risk and get another pair?
What is the training partner for Vapourfly Next%? I now use Winflo 7 but I found it to be too stable. I need something that resembles more with Vapourfly.... To be more instable and softer feel and to promote better that feeling of raising naturally the heel. I am a firefoot striker and I found that running with Nikes on general alievate my calfes soreness :)
Can these serve as a poor man's marathon shoe alpha flys? I can get on sale and can use as my tempo shoe but really hoping it could go as my first marathon shoe. Alternatively, I have the Endorphin Speed as my current option that I also use for long runs and perhaps my daily shoe when I retire the Peg 37
Hmmm never considered the tempo next% as I want the speeds as soon as I can get my hand on them. Definitely a shoe to add to my 'wait for a possible discount' list though.
