Run Tester Nick is a 2:33 marathoner and has logged races at every distance from 5K to the full 42.2km in the Vaporfly, and after testing the Alphafly extensively in recent weeks, he’s ready to give his verdict on which of Nike's top racing shoes you should be spending your money on.

Thanks for the suggestion in the end. I never had any of the vaporfly shoes, but I will try and buy the Alphafly when they release it again. I already have the Zoom Fly 3 and Peg Turbo and I think that they will be great training companions to the Alphafly in my arsenal of running shoes. :)

I just got the Zoom Tempo Next%. I got my TTS, whicg is US9.5. Fits me well but there's some room in the toe box. From your video, I saw that there's some room in the toe box as well. So I guess getting both the Alphafly and Vaporfly Next% in US9.5 would fit just well. Thanks for the very nice review on both pairs! 😊

After 2 runs in the Alphafly... Really want to love them as they are fast amd bouncy but I think I will return it. Yes, arch pain but mine is on the left side. It goes away after a while but I continue to feel the support on the arch like a pair of stability shoes. Came back and tried the Next% immediately, ya they fit much better. Also the foam just felt too much for me.

2:47 looks a big difference in the toe box lock down, on the Alphafly it looks like there is bags of excess space above your toes? What about the width in the forefoot?

I finally got my hands on both the Vaporfly and Alphafly. I am the odd man out but I need two different sizes between the two. I now have US11 for the Alphafly and US11.5 in the Vaporfly. The Vaporfly was just a little too narrow in the toe box so I felt like the outside of my larger foot was just off and I got some chafe on the outer toe. In the 11.5, it was good. I originally then went with 11.5 for the Alphafly but the Atomknit was more flexible and therefore didn't hug as tight and I got some slippage and heel chafe so I sized down. One other "issue" I have with the Alphafly and any flyknit type of tongue is that if you need to pull them tighter, the tongue has nowhere to go so it folds over which isn't all that comfortable. All of that said, I'm keeping both as they are brilliant shoes and I've achieved marathon PBs back to back three weeks apart - first in the Vaporfly and then the Alphafly (finally breaking 3 hours with the latter).

ArtSaNerd Hello; what do you think today, which is better shoe for fast halfmarathon ? My curent shoe is zf Flyknit
@artsanerd18
@artsanerd18 3 года назад
@@markoljustina just seeing this now but I would lean toward the Vaporfly. It's lighter and more stable around turns. I'll save my Alphaflys for straighter, longer runs. It's better for me when I need the extra support over the distance of a marathon where a half (for me) is short enough that any shoe has enough support and the Vaporfly/Alphafly would be there more for the energy return they give.

I am a 12.5 ideally but use a 12 in the Vaporfly as when I try a 13 my right foot seems to fall over the edge on the arch with less support. My toes are a bit squashed in the 12. Is the mid/arch area wider? as I would love to try a 13

I wear size (US) 11 for 4% and size 10.5 for Vaporfly next %. The reason I wear half a size smaller for the next % is my heels keep slipping off in size 11 but not in 4%. Do you feel heel slippery when you run on the Alphafly vs Vaporflies?

Ironman marathon... multiple laps, tend to be quite a lot of turns (tho not u-turns) and obviously running significantly below fresh marathon pace. Maybe the VF better choice than the AF in that context, would you say? Nice comparison BTW.
@TheRunTesters
@TheRunTesters 4 года назад
Hi Matt! Good question. I'd say Alphafly myself but I'm not an Ironman, so asked a pal of mine who is a pro and has used both shoes. He says as the roads in Ironman races are closed and generally pretty good surfaces, he'd go Alphafly even with the turns, but on some courses - like Ironman Wales where it's hilly and there are cobbles - he'd lean towards the Vaporfly.

Alphafly isn’t legal for track races anymore, so spikes or low profile shoes for me :) If i could use it, I’d prob prefer the Alphafly or another carbon shoe.

For my first marathon, in a sub 4 hour goal, would you recommend ? Next, Alphafly or Endorphin Speed?
@TheRunTesters
@TheRunTesters 3 года назад
Hi Ricardo, (Kieran here) the other Run Testers may differ on this but I'd be tempted to invest in the Speed as a good all-rounder that'll handle the marathon. Go out there and enjoy your first marathon, get a feel for it all and then maybe save the bigger price tag shoes for when you inevitably decide you've got a faster 26.2 in you. I personally think the Speed will be more forgiving over those final 6 miles when the slightly inevitable form loss comes too.

@@TheRunTesters Hi Kieran! Currently Iam doing my long runs in Infinity (easy runs), endorphin speed and Vaporfly Next. Up to 21 km Iam sure Next is the best option but Iam not so sure about longer runs where Speed stands out, being more comfortable though less responsive. Iam afraid of not reach my goal in it whereas I absolutely love running in Endorphin speed. From this idea Alphafly came out as an alternative. Thanks a lot for helping me! I enjoy so much your channel!!

@TheRunTesters
@TheRunTesters 3 года назад
HI these have a lighter, bouncier foam in them, plus the carbon plate. They're proper racers, much lighter and faster than the Infinity, which is a great shoe designed for logging long miles in training. If you just have one shoe for everything the Infinity is better, but if you have space/budget for a dedicated racing shoe these are much better.

Hi Carlos. Hard to say right now but I've got good mileage out of older Vaporfly shoes - 300 miles odd on my first pair. Even when the outsole gets a bit torn up there's good bounce in the midsole. I'd expect the Alphafly to last longer than the Vaporfly too, because there's more rubber on the outsole.
