The majestic Americans got schooled by a kid from Germany. It's funny looking back on it now how Dirk might have been overshadowed before this game, but 20 years later became one of the greatest basketball players of all time and a first-ballot Hall of Famer. At the same time, only two or three Americans had mild to moderate successes in the NBA and are mostly forgotten.
Would've been nice to see more of him. This video is a lot like the officiating of this game- biased towards Team USA. Watching this you would never know the World Team won until the final buzzer. I live in the US btw.
Came to watch this game after ESPN story on Dirk, which made it sound like he was a dominant force in this game. To me it seems like the INternational team members all played well and Dirk did most of his damage from the foul line. He got a lot of calls, but yea he played well.
First of all you have to force and get the calls and then you have to hit all those shots from the foul line which is far from common for a big guy at those days. It was part of his game later on also, making it difficult for the other team, because it wasn't enough fouling him when you can't stop him otherwise, when he hits nearly 90% of his free shots. So I'd say he was dominating the game - even if it means getting his points mainly from the foul line.
