Toni Kukoc was Dirk Nowitzki before Dirk Nowitzki. As the video correctly states, the early 90's were dominated by traditional post play, such that when Kukoc came over he was systematically broken down by the Bulls into a traditional post role even though his skillset was actually that of a 6'11 point-forward, as shown by his performance on the Yugoslav national team that was dominating international basketball before the country was thrown into war. He will probably go down as one of the most wildly misused players in NBA history, literally born a generation too early. While Dirk was the first to be given the opportunity to actually show that this type of player could work, I don't think that you have Dirk Nowitzki without Toni Kukoc. Think about it, most European basketball would be heavily influenced in this period by those late 80's/early 90's Yugoslav teams, including German basketball which was more or less nonexistent at the time. Watch the highlights, even 7-foot Vlade Divac would carry the ball up the court in transition after grabbing rebounds.

Man, to mention international teams/countries that grew basketball wise after 92, that had an impact internationally, and not metion Spain... you broke my heart a little bit there... Anyhow, great content as always mate! :)

Dirk was playing in the European cup (I think '95, maybe '97 ?) and what I noticed about him (the poor guy) he wasn't playing 5v5 in his games, most of the time German team's games looked like 3v7, or even 2v8 sometimes (depending on whether the SG of the squad would have a good shooting series :P) So yeah, his team ended up losing to teams that were like final 4 material = Italy/Yugoslavia/Russia/Spain (basically the strongest of European teams), but here's the thing = with usually LESS THAN 10-15 points DESPITE most of his teammates being worse than college material 😂 He was even playing nearly 40 minutes a game (almost full minute count every single game), so yeah, his "youth career" looked like him + 2 street ball players (and bunch of whatever) vs teams that were well-coached and fully-prepared, and when those other couple of guys had a "bad shooting day", his national team's games looked like 1v9 (LITERALLY), so yeah, he was the only player that would achieve the 30+ point mark (or even 40 ?, not sure) and STILL LOSE the game :D
