So great to hear your thoughts! Mine are similar.... not completely though, I did start to get on with it a bit more towards the end but overall I’d certainly still reach for other daily shoes over this thing! Another underwhelming performance by Nike on this one!
I agree, my last few miles were more agreeable but still even my £29 reebok energy 2 are more comfortable out the box! That says a great deal about this shoe. :)
Always love the honest reviews! I’ve had a bit of a different experience with these...as predominantly a trail runner, these are my all-purpose road shoe. I was a bit underwhelmed out of the box; I had some heel slippage and they felt clunky. But they’ve started to break in nicely (or I grew accustomed to them). I feel they’re just protective enough for recovery/easy runs, and when I pick up the tempo a bit that Air pocket gives a nice pop. I do have permanent bruises from the top of the laces though.
You’ve had a massively different experience to me - I’ve got narrow feet and have had no issues with lockdown or lacing. The toe box gave a little after a while so maybe sticking with original sole inserts night have helped? I find the shoe perfect for easy days but can also pick up the pace if needed with the air bag under forefoot. Fair play though, you can only share your own honest experience so can’t knock you for that Ed. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
I stuck with the insoles for 37 miles but the upper bruised my toes and I lost a nail on one foot! The other insoles made the shoe wearable to 100. Just didn’t quite work for me. Thanks for tuning in Nick 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
thank you very much for this excellent review on the Peg 37. I think your review was the harshest one on this shoe online...but you just sound very honest and genuine to me.. hope you will compare this Nike vs the NB 1080V10. I really love the look of this Nike shoe......it is very handsome to me.
The react in that infinity shoe was so different. Always a pleasure to run in that one. The 37 was not a good fit for me! Thanks for tuning in and enjoy those Boston 9’s. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
I’m loving these. I’ve been reaching for them most days. I don’t feel beat up after using them. Like them for a daily trainer even though they are not perfect. Little lockdown issue but got through that. The midsole broke in and the shoe settled in nicely. I’m taking them the distance for sure.
Took a while to break in Steve, once they had they were ok, nothing special. Just feels like too much midsole to me right now. Thanks for tuning in, i appreciate it 👍😊🏃♂️
Sent mine back after 20 miles. You are a boss for doing 100 miles in these shoes. Tons of daily trainers that are far better than these shoes. The Peg Trail 2 is the only shoe in the Pegasus line I will ever wear. Huge miss!
Superb stuff every time from Malkmus. Always an interesting tune and great guitar work. Like a never ending musical version of parcel the parcel. Thanks for watching 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
I was not excited about these shoes and your 100 mile review confirm my inicial idea. Heavy and not so responsive, they seem to be worse than 36 and 35. Thanks for your honest review!
I’m glad to heard your comments because I was going to buy a pair since they are on sale just now so happy to carry on with my Brooks glycerin 19.I will look for something else for my shoe rotation.
For me European size 44 is true to size, fit is snug but not uncomfortable for an average size footwidth. Break in is longer, about 30-40k for me, after that they felt more comfortable, soft and responsive. The thick rubber underneath makes the shoe suitable for almost all surfaces, includig a bit muddy. They seem durable, with almost no wear and tear after 100K. It's a bit of a plough horse, though a fancy looking
I was chatting to a pro runner friend of mine. She likes the 37 and says they're pretty much like all the other Pegasus. Strange how opinions differ. Nice video as always Edd.
At least the smell was on par! So many Nike options, so many designers, so many inexperienced designers getting the nod to take over the line. I’ll stick with Hoka, NB, Solomon, ASICS...
A few weeks ago I bought the Peg 37's and had to take them back because the guy in the store gave me the wrong size. They didn't have my size so I wound up buying something else (ASICS Noosa Tri 12's and NB Fule Cell Rebel). Really glad things worked out the way they did. The new Noosas are great, loved the Tri 11's and I like having a faster shoe in the NB Rebels. The Peg's didn't excite me but I was keen to try my first pair of Nike running shoes. Anyway, last week I bought the Infinity Reacts and had my first run in them this morning. Really good first impression even though it felt like they'll need a couple of runs to properly break in. Thanks for the reviews!
Your experience with this remind me of mine with the Pegasus 34. I've had other Nike shoes since then but not another Pegasus. Could never get the fit right, the lacing right, changed the insole, none of it made any difference. Now I only wear them with ice grips when running in bad weather conditions.
As a larger runner (215lbs, 6’2”) I’ve really enjoyed this shoe for the couple runs I’ve taken it on so far. I really feel the air pocket at my weight, and my knees don’t hurt the next day. I really enjoy these for my longer runs. Toe box is currently feeling a little cramped, but hope that it opens up soon.
I agree . I noticed that when I first started back running I didn’t mind the shoe . However as I am leaner and able to move fast with a bigger stride , the shoes suddenly feel very clunky .
Similar lock down problem. The laces just cut my ankle. I have a thin foot and find also the forefoot too big. I like the react foam and the outsole. I dont particularly suffer the hot season living in italy but these shoes feel warm and not much brethable. I was looking forward the new pegasus but the are not what i wanted
Looks like you had pretty much the same issues I had in the shoes. So many better models out there now which are far more pleasing on foot. Thanks for watching 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Tried the Peg 37 in the wide (women) and I did not get on with it at all. The feel was, for me, like a Hoka with that sidewall that sits above your feet inside and it rubbed for me terribly on the medial side under the big toe. I could not get a lockdown on this shoe - I do have narrow heels but my heel would not stay in it regardless of lacing. They felt very long (they were the right length) and shallow. So many better options out there for me - love the Infinity React (no heel slippage whatsoever!) and the Glideride. The Speed are my fast day shoe and I took the Saucony 13 out for its maiden run yesterday and enjoyed it just fine. Too many shoes to keep those that don't work. Nice job Ed!
I had the same great experience in the Infinity React. Always enjoyable in that shoe. Same with the GlideRide and just about every other shoe. The lockdown on the 37 is flawed for many of us runners. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Disagree with you on the Peg 37. I tried the React Infinity Run and felt it too squishy and all over the place. With the Peg 37 its a slightly firmer ride but the zoom air and the react seem to work well to give a cushioned but controlled ride. As for the lock down I got a slight heel slippage which was countered with using the last lace hole. Is it the best shoe I have ever run in - no. But too me its a more durable and heavier Peg Turbo at a value price
Valid arguments Stuart, its nothing like the turbo though. I tried to use a runners knot, normal knots, different laces even but still needed tightness to get a decent feel. Glad it worked out for you though :)
I'm a big fan of the 37's too. I've got a Custom pair with the toggle lacing system. No problem with the lockdown or the fit. Been wearing Pegasus since the 32's, this is my favourite version so far. I dont think the Turbo comparison is that wacky, I'm achieving similar paces in the 37's as I do in my Turbo 2's. The difference between the 36's and the first Turbo's was much, much wider in terms of comfort and pace.
Lock was still terrible with stock insoles. The lockdown with this shoe isn’t great at all for me. The lace loops give too much and the tongue is too short. A disappointing shoe for me. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
I think they’ve gone too far towards high stack height shoes, like is the Pegasus their shortest mainline running shoe right now? Because if so that’s sad, I think Nike needs to step back and focus on some shorter faster stuff.
Once I had finally worn out my final pair of Turbos - probably my favourite shoe ever - at the end of 2020 and didn't fancy the look of the Tempo Next, I thought I'd go back to the Pegs. I'd worn through quite a few pairs of the older versions and run my first marathon in a pair 5 years ago. I read a few online reviews and having seen them to be mostly positive, I bought a pair. They are just catastrophically bad: hard, unresponsive, and desperately uncomfortable. 3/10 will not be buying another pair.
I have these shoes. I am a runner in 36' on 10km, and I do not see myself running a 10 with, or even a semi: they are not made to go fast. On slow gaits (jogging, EF) up to gaits approaching 4'00 ~ 4'15 per kilo, nickel: good energy return, optimal comfort. But beyond these speeds, we feel constrained at the level of the stride, the sole seems to play more against us than with us, hence a feeling of too much energy expenditure. I wonder what the "Turbo" version of this Pegasus 37 is worth at this level suddenly ... Maybe it is more versatile and therefore quite simply a much better choice.
Great review! I agree with you: I wasn’t a fan of the upper, the midsole took awhile to break in, and there was a lot of rubber on the outsole. Maybe the 38 will be better? 😅
Hey buddy! Yes the upper seemed like it was grabbed straight from the peg 36 shield which was an awful lockdown and also shallow in the toebox. Too much rubber and took too long to break in. Fingers crossed they can improve and go back to a more sensible weight and fit in the 38. Thanks for watching 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Idgi. We all wanted react in the peg. This is so hard. I haven't used the epic flyknit, but I have the miler. I'm imagining the epic react flyknit is like the miler where the react is way softer.
Can’t disagree with your review here. While I think it’s been “okay”, it’s really been nothing special. I’ve had the same heel slippage issues and the upper is too thick for these southeastern summer days. Seriously, sometimes I’ve felt like I just dipped my feet in a bucket of fire after a run. And you just can’t use thinner socks with these, so I’ve mostly given up on them after only about 50 miles. I’ve got a pair of Clifton 7’s on pre-order do hopefully those fill the gap for my daily trainer.
I've done 153 km / 95 miles in my 37, and they fit quite nicely. No issues whatsoever and I've even got wide feet. Is it the best shoe I've ever had? Absolutely not. It's a bit "meh" and not as good at everything like its predecessors. However, they still have their place in the rotation, when I'm at the "hm, I don't know what kind of run I'm gonna do", I'll grab my 37.
Nice one, “solebrother” 👍🏽 I continue to be transfixed by the varied responses to these releases. adidas, ASICS and Nike have their respective niche cut out. They must be careful in how they democratize what they each do best. ASICS is still clawing itself back to former glory. I consider how difficult a time \\\ had presenting adizero to the masses. I mean, they went completely opposite when creating the max cushioned space other brands took over. They offer so much goodness for those requiring road contact now. I wonder how Nike would pull back from the high stack space they mastered. Do they need to do so any time soon? ✌🏽🖤🏃🏽♂️
Interesting thoughts Amado, i agree about Nike. No more "mm" to go higher than what they have now. Their push into stack heights has now presented them with a maximum to work within. Adidas, i think are onto something. 😊👍🏃♂️
I did the same as you Ed, I switched out the insole for some Hoka One One and it fits better with less rubbing on top of the foot. I did try a half size up than my true size but the heel slip is just horrid. Nike are always infamous for their low volume toe box
Great review! Was considering these, but think more research is needed. For an one-road daily trainer would anyone recommend Peg Turbo 2? Nike React Infinity? or something else?
@@EDDBUD Thanks Edd! When it comes to trainer reviews I find Somerset beats California and New York any day :) Think I'll give them a try (esp. as can prob find reduced).
I’m not a fan of the thin tongues. I noticed the change with the Pegasus turbo 2. Generally, I find Pegasus run a little warm. Also, I also size up with Nike.
I felt disappointed in the midsole as it was too firm for me, especially as an easy day shoe. I didn’t have any issues with the upper and I found I can pick up the pace in this shoes easier than with the novablast. I’m at 276 miles in the 37 and will be buying the Clifton 7 to replace it at 350 miles
Very similar view to you, a bit firm though it was ok the last 30 odd miles. Nothing to write home to my mum about :) The clifton 7 was a better shoe straight out the box without the eddbud modifications! :)
I’ve got 50ish miles in on my 37’s and I don’t like them. It has great cushion for heel strikers and the zoom bag in the forefoot is great for tempo stuff, but if you’re a mid foot striker it feels firm.
Hi Ed, I’m a Reebok fan as I know you are. I have the Run Fast 2 and absolutely love them. For my daily trainer, I use Brooks Glycerin 17 (so heavy in my UK12). When they’re done, I’m wondering what to replace them with. Something lighter with more rebound would be great. How does the Energy 2 compare with the Panthea? I will look into your other recommendations also (Clifton, Novablast). Great content as always. My fav running channel. Thanks!
Hey Nick. Not tried the panthea as yet but I enjoy the energy 2. More of a solid daily type shoe but nice fit. A little less exciting in the midsole stakes. The novablast is all bounce but mellowed our after a while for me. Hope this helps. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
I've got the tempo next % coming in tomorrow, hopefully this will be the 1st shoe that works for me their 2020 release.. nothing has worked so far...😅😅 all the 2019 range has topped 2020..😥
See so many conflicting reviews on this shoe. Sounds very much like a "marmite" shoe. I picked some up in the Black Friday sale for £51 so thought it was a no brainer. Seem to fit well and going for my first run tonight. Hopefully I get on with them. I'm just looking for a daily HM trainer with the ability to turn up the pace now and again. I'm retiring my Clifton 7 for these, as the Clifton 7 is shocking for tempo, especially the longer you wear them. Trying to run tempo in the Clifton 7 after 300 miles is like running in sand.
Hey Matt. I found the same as you that the Clifton were a good daily slog shoe but for anything resembling speedwork they were sadly lacking! Hope the peg 37 works out for you. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Since you mention it at the end, is it really possible to order a shoe, use it and send it back after few days? That is something I would always feel bad about and have never tried. The company certainly would have to dispose of the shoe, since it's a hygiene as well as an a esthetic problem.
I hated theses shoes. I got the wide version and still felt narrow in the toe box. I wish I got the extra wide version. No matter what size shoe I tried my heal would slip in and out. I’ll stick to my fuel cell rebel, kinvara 11, and Clifton 6.
Peg 37 is very controversial shoe..For me personally I hate that feeling when shoe laces are cutting into your upper foot and not having proper lockdown at the same time. Many people have sent them back for those mentioned issues..
I will stick with my Pegasus 35's and Kinvara 11's , God I love the Sauconys !! And hate the Boston8's... Think I'll listen to some Pavement and go Cut my hair !! I love the honest review. Thanks...
Hey Frank! Can’t loose with Pavement. I remember chatting to a lady once in a nightclub and I told her I like pavement and she just got up and walked away. 🤣She wasn’t a Malkmus fan obviously. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Off topic but the more i run in my Reebok run fast 2 the more i love them to the point where i use them on all my runs apart from my long easy 30 k ( Triumph 17 ) and my trail runs of course.
As you know, I remain an ardent anti-swoosher, so hearing that the Peg 37 wasn’t a home run doesn’t break my heart. I’m with you on the Reebok Floatride Energy. I’ve got over 330 miles on my v1’s and they just keep giving good runs!
Energy 2 run on Friday, might do the long run test in them actual on Sunday. Can they last a good 15 miles?! We will see! Thanks for your support Dave :)
I enjoy my peg 37s and haven’t had any of the upper issues you mentioned. Mind you I’m a slow plodder so maybe not moving fast enough for my heel to slip 😂
I had the same impressions about the upper, specially about the toe-box. I was wondering if removing the insole would make the upper less tight. Although, I think I will sell them online to buy a more comfortable daily trainer.
@@EDDBUD I tried today the SL20 insole on Pegasus 37. It feels better, but I am not confident to put it on the road. I am afraid it is not enough to make them comfortable, and then it would mess the shoes and make me loose some extra $$ on the sale.
@@ricardoalessandrodeoliveir6639 I even tried no insoles in that one and it never really got much better than a daily slog type of shoe. The upper lockdown was not good at all.
I love my Peg 36 and was about to get this but after watching some reviews online...i'm a bit skeptical to get this. Would you say that the Peg 36 is a better shoe than the 37? Thanks and great review as always Edd.
Fit wise, the 36 is definitely better. The 37 is a very narrow shoe with an upper that doesn't have any give. Add that midfoot band that replaced the flywire and your feet feel very constraint. My midfoot hurt to a point where I had to stop running in them. I cut through the midfoot band in both shoes which relieved the pressure instantly. Ride wise it depends on your preference. If you're a fan of React and heel striker you'll feel right at home. I prefer the lower ground feel of the 36, and its firmer yet protective cushioning. The 37 feels disconnected, and it's only when you pick up the pace that you get response out of the shoe from its airbag. Also, the ride in the 36s is more consistently. No matter where you land you get the same impact sensation. The 37 is squishy in the heel, firm-ish in the forefoot and quite weird through the midfoot where it has a hard time getting transition right. That said, after about 100mi I got along much better with the 37s, and have about 160 in them now, but can't really say that I look forward to putting them on. I still have a fresh pair of 36s that I'm eager to run in but hold back for a time when there are no exciting shoes and I'm in need of a trusty workhorse.
@@danny3335 I have 500km on my Novablast. They needed about 100miles to grow on me but have been my go-to trainer ever since. That midsole is so versatile. Now at 500k though it shows signs of fatigue. The outsole is as good as new, but the foam developed some quirks, like a squeaking sound. :-D At €140 a pop nothing to be worried about, I just get a new pair. They are leaps and bounds ahead of the 37.
Just picked myself up some from Nike for just over £50 with a discount code😁 This will be my first non turbo Pegasus. Will be using for my easy-mid pace runs 🤞
@@ThatRunningGuy Fingers crossed for it! My Infinity react on are on the way out and wanted something to tide me over until i get a "proper" replacement. Quite excited to try them.
In a world of Mizuno Wave Inspire, Saucony Guide & Asics Keyano, Nike can’t be bothered to produce anything that measures up to real running shoes. You would think with their access to funding and technology they could make better sneakers.
Hey Arthur, i am surprised they do not dip into the steady but sure market of daily shoes. There are some many good options from other manufacturers now. Thanks for tuning in 😊👍🏃♂️
I too play a lot with insoles and the difference it makes in feel and room is very noticeable. You can even sometimes do the perfect swap between 2 shoes/insoles. I think it makes the shoe look much cooler in an understated kind of way
I have these and they're really gelling with me. I think for a heavier/taller runner like myself they're ideal. They are heavy, but so are my legs ! They'll take a few runs to wear in but they feel superb after they have softened up.
I think Nike shoes are becoming quite predictable. I can generally tell before putting them on whether they're going to fit me or not, and if the midsole is React they're going to feel heavy, cumbersome, and unresponsive. How they are unable to get the lockdown right, on a shoe for the masses, is utterly baffling. As you say, it's form over function.
@@EDDBUD bit random 4 months later I know, but if still interested in the Winflo7 check ASOS and wait for one of their weekly 20% off, got mine for £39. they are soft though but air bags lot more poppy/responsive than peg37 PS it's me loadza Daves on phone
I did try without the insoles but I had the reverse problem of their being too much room in the toebox then. The Hoka paper thin insoles provided the best medium between the two. 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
@@EDDBUD yes I am enjoying shoes. I have already run 160km/100mile and in long distance I covered 32km with no issues. No even minor signs of wear n tear

Nike makes durable shoes, too durable. You can basically wear them for years. If only they made worse shoes that fell apart more easily. Average runners and casual wearers get all the good stuff and us real runners need to try all sorts of niche shoes to find what works. You average Joe's have it so easy. If only Nike made a variety of models at dif. Earth credit price points. If only.
Worst lockdown and upper fit of any shoe I have tried in the last 24 months. Inconsistent over the 100 miles. No other shoe has been this changeable. Not one I can recommend after my experience. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
