Thailand here 🇹🇭 Just finished a 10 km run would never thought that would be possible 6 months ago.. slowly increased the distance and can now do the 10 km in 60 min without much huffing and puffing afterwards.. onward and upward!!!!
🇦🇺 I've taken my ZF4 to 260km and couldn't disagree with you more on this one Seth. I'm 50yo with a chronic achilles injury and the ZF4 have been great. No pressure on the achilles, no rubbing, plate and react foam provide a responsive stable platform. The weight is a bonus for added strength. I recently raced 10,000m on the track in my next %2 in 36min52. The ZF4 is the perfect training partner to the next %. IMO 👊🏽
QD: Just started doing this a month ago and it does seem to help with both falling asleep and sleeping better. It's called 4-7-8 breathing. Inhale deeply for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale (with pursed lips) for 8 seconds. The more you do the better, I usually do 6 or 7. I was pretty skeptical but it I'm definitely going to keep doing it!
The sheer amount of wardrobe items you acquired at NYC marathon is making me chuckle every day Seth - I think we're up to about 9 tops / jackets at this point... :)
Had this shoe for a year now, so durable. I cant say its the most confortable but definitely not bad for someone who was looking for something thats an upgrade from my 2 yr old asics that was completely dead. This shoe is still holding on well, ive done a duathlon, marathon, and some shorter time trials in this and broke a few pbs. Overall i’d give it a 6.5/10 as a well rounded running shoe
QOD: if I feel I start to struggle, I choose a place I know well (most of the times the house I grew up in) and I visualize and describe it in my head with as many details as I possibly can remember... I really try to focus on the images of going through the gate, to the garden, through the door... and all of the minute details of each room so that my brain shuts down the noises of everyday life preoccupations and I get bored or dreamy and fall asleep... cheers from Paris France
The padding around the collar transformed this shoe for me compared to version 3. Version 3 was very loosey goosey that it felt like I was wearing slippers and gave up on the shoe after 80+ miles. The update to fly knit secured my midfoot and heel so much better. Used it on 10Ks races as part of training and the plate gives me stability. I do agree it needs to lose some weight but as a guy with a bit more mass doesn't bother me and like to think that on race day when I put on my light weight race shoe it will feel even more light on foot after running on a heavier one.
Have to agree with you 100%. Night and day difference between this version and the Zoom Fly 3 ( I prefer to run in there when it's rainy out). The lockdown is way better with the collar. Flyknit made this shoe way more breathable. Although these aren't up to the level of the Zoom Fly Flyknit's; the ZF4 is a step in the right direction.
Seeing this thumbnail reminded me of how much I love the Zoom Fly Flyknit from 2019. I bought a stack of them for $60 each at the Nike outlet store when they were being discontinued and have one pair left. It doesn’t have to be the current model to be great. Good morning DGR fam!
Just had a week off after a long season and I've actively tried to stop watching Seth as every time I watch one of his videos I'm so motivated to go out training it's irresistible. Stay you Seth encouraging so many out there! (even on rest weeks🤣) seek beauty
Playing and running around with my two-year-old boy definitely helps to fall asleep faster because all the energy you had left in your body is gone and your mind is just shutting down immediately when the head hits the pillow.😴
Written from 🇲🇾 here! Have been watching n following up with your videos every nite since a year ago, my 1st source of running info esp. the shoes reviews and great motivation to keep turn the doorknob each time out for running. 😊
QD: I have been consistently practicing the Wim Hof breathing exercises for a year now and it has been a life changing experience. It makes fall asleep very quickly, improves the quality of my sleep as well according to my sleep trackers, significantly reduces stress level and settles my heart rate. I'm not only doing it every night but in the morning before though runs or race days as well. I have really noticed the difference on my performance as it tends to keep my heat rate low and delay the moment my body starts to produce lactic acid. I would definitely encourage runners (& non runners) to give it a try as there is a good chance it works for most.
when i was 9 i stared playing trombone my music teacher introduced me to the wim hof method when I was about 12 I`ve been using it ever since. It really helps me calm down I did it before most of my races and finals.
The Zoom Fly line-up works great for me but it definitely isnt for everyone. I have logged around 2500 miles or so in Zoom Fly 3s/4s. I definitely dont notice the weight but have spoken to others who say it feels heavy.
Watching from Singapore! 🇸🇬 just got my ZF4s today, and really excited to try them out. Don’t mind react or the heavier weight, as long as they don’t get me injured 😅
Nice city running shots. And good music. I just saw the ad for the Golden Trail series, and thought about you when they said the Pikes Peak Accent (and not the marathon).
Good morning everyone! Enjoying this video on my work break in NW FL. Looked like a beautiful run SJD! Have a slow 5k planned for today. Getting back into it after a super long-standing injury, womp womp. Pls wish some flexibility in my ankles today. Happy running everyone!
🇨🇦🇨🇦 - QD: Definitely listening to audiobooks and podcasts with a headphone - usually about running - Just have to remember to set a sleep timer for 30 min so I don't sleep through an entire book!
🇮🇱 Watching you from Israel. Just broke my marathon p.r. on friday by 5 minutes, running 2.44.37 in Tiberias marathon. Was hoping to run faster but it was so windy. Better luck next time.
QoD: visualization is the trick for me! I learned this in rock climbing: I’d ‘visualize’ a climbing project with all my senses, feel all the aspects of the moves and rehearse them in my mind’s eye. It made me fall asleep in no time. It works for running too: visualize running an upcoming race, the course, the uphills, how I’ll feel, where I have to dig deep, rehearse the mental cues, etc. It’s a great habit on it’s own and really helps my mind getting ready for sleep.
A positive with the React foam is that it does not break down... like ever. I can't afford too many pairs of shoes each year and I got 1,000+ miles on the ZoomFly 3 and I'm guessing these will last for at east 600 miles for me. Endorphin Speed fell apart after 400 miles (which isn't bad I realize) but $/mile on the Zoom Fly was so much higher. I'd also highly recommend these for folks who may be a little bigger than Seth and looking for a little more stability than some similar shoes. QD: reading an actual paper book, not Kindle etc. Also meditation and prayer about the events and thoughts and emotions of the day.
Singapore 🇸🇬 !!! Have enjoyed your reviews so far but unfortunately have to completely disagree with you on the Zoomfly 4 review. I just got mine on and took it for a 13km run yesterday and I absolutely loved it. Loved the Zoomfly flyknit, not the Zoomfly 3, but the Zoomfly 4 just took it to a new level, especially with the upper. The issue i had with the Zoomfly flyknit was that it does not feel secure around the ankle, especially during turns, which the padding in 4’s addressed! Second, on blisters and cuts, nothing some good old socks above the ankles can’t solve, used to get heel blisters too from the Vaporflys but that’s cause i was wearing socks below my ankles. Lastly, the flyknit is awesome wicking sweat in Singapore where it’s hot and humid. This is now my go to tempo shoes now:) Hope you can take this positively in agreeing to disagree. Cheers and keep up the awesome content!
Maldives 🇲🇻 14 year old mid distance runner, we don’t have altitude training since we live on sea level, slowly but steadily improving. Your vlogs have been rather fruitful and kept me going through the rough days, thank you ❤️
Getting my morning Motivation here tuning in from Townsville ,Australia 🇭🇲 Off to do some hill work this morning and up early tomorrow morning to attempt my first Half Marathon distance for training, can't wait😀 Keep turning that door knob
Spaniard here 🇪🇸. I dont know if anyone thinks like me, but zoomfly line-up works great for me in trainning. i m able to do many kind of workouts, nevertheless i think Nike being able to create a great complete shoe Is not interested. How they explain the disapparence of Pegasus turbos line-up or zoomfly 2 radical change to a much worse shoe?
Hello Seth! Maybe this shoe could be a solution for people like me, who doesn’t have a big shoe rotation and wants a shoe for both speedworks (reps and tempo) and raceday, plus being a too heavy (78kg) and slow runner for the Next%. Maybe not the top option for each type of run, but IMHO for some people Zoom Fly 4 can do the trick. Tested to the 1/2 marathon max.
QD: I bought a sleep mask that goes over my eyes, and it’s a life changer! I highly recommend even if you already have blackout curtains. The soft pressure on my eyes is even relaxing now.
For me they are more of an affordable race shoe. For the amateur runner that doesn't want to spend $300 on a shoe I think it is a great option. And you feel you have a modern race shoe without braking your bank
I'm watching from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania! I'm running the Pittsburgh marathon in May. It will be my first one! Thanks for all the tips and info I got form this channel so far 👍💪
If the business end of the shoe is anything like the the ZF3 it should go easily to 400+ miles. I've just recently hit 407 miles on mine and they still have a few more miles in them yet.
Seth, interested that you shared that the Vaporfly 2's gave you blisters on your achilles tendon. I used my Vaporfly 1's for a half marathon recently and got some pretty bad blisters on my achilles tendons also. It's a bummer because I love the ride of the Vaporfly's (obviously, they're amazing). I'm thinking about buying a pair of the Vaporfly 2's, but your comment about the blisters gives me pause and think I should try some other super shoes.
I have never had problems when wearing higher socks. I would try with a thicker upper sock and thinner lower foot area. Swift wick and stance have some good socks with thick protection around ankle/shin and thin in foot. Just a suggestion 😄
Shoes like the rebel v2 and other shoes that are light/quick are redefining what’s acceptable and what once was good is now subpar. These 4’s just don’t hit any market other than the ‘brand/image conscious’
QOD: No offense to some of the RU-vidrs out there uploading their content, but my go to at bedtime when I’m trying to fall asleep is just watching some of the random suggested videos that pop up on the feed. They are not usually something that snags my undivided attention, unlike the content I subscribe to from this channel and few others that I watch intently. I quickly become bored watching those random videos and find myself falling asleep in no time. 😂🤷🏻♂️
Loveland, Colorado 🇺🇸, have a great day …I have a definite bedtime of 9 pm as I get up early for work at the hospital…to fall asleep I reflect on the day, read a book, listen to my cat purr and I’m out
Mauritius, here in the Indian ocean , trying my best to enjoy the summer runs . . . . which I am very grateful. We have locked down twice already, one in 2020 & also earlier this year for around 5 months all together. Thankfully, runners are now allowed to run in public and my feet still able to jog around 400km a month. Mauritius Marathon 2021 has been canceled though. Talking about Zoom Fly, I had the original zoom fly knit aka FK. The tongue did not agree with me and kept rubbing my feet. Under 30km, it was okay, but hurt after that. I agree with Seth 100% 1 ) save carbon plated shoes for those special occasions and 2) Yes I love my Endorphin speed so much so I bought 2 more pairs. I am sorry I have no answer to the QOD, I seldom have trouble falling asleep, well maybe before race day, then i might start counting dodo birds . . . . . . :)
Hello from Bari, Italy. Excellent review that might be used to promote tourism in your city just y cutting the shoe details! I confirm the issues you mentioned: narrow heel (unstable for me) and the heel padding that makes my heel a little sore. Last Black Friday (25% off), I bought them from the Nike website. I used to fix my daily issues to fall asleep quickly.
From 🇮🇩. I’ve been using ZF3 for almost 800km and confidence to use it for 200-300km more. Just bought ZF4, mainly because of its durability, and used it for 27km and so far so good.
Gimana bro? Aku rencanaya pengen ambil ini... soalnya yang zf5 reviewnya lagi jelek... btw sepatunya breathable ga? Trus ini zf4 nyaudah pernah dicoba buat timetrial? Trimss
Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩 here. Next Friday participating half marathon event. As always inspiring blog from you. Keep inspire us Seth!! You rock. DGR strong 🤟💪
QD: I fall asleep pretty quickly each night… but then I wake up after 3-4 hours and I’m awake… to fall asleep again I put on a video from one of my favorite youtubers… usually a long one, and I just listen… no watching… and it’s lights out pretty quick! It’s basically being in a comfort zone… listening about something that I enjoy… can be running videos or even Jeep repair videos… sometimes music or even model railroading videos… just comforting hobbies/things…
don't freak out if you can't sleep before a race; means you're ready. i've had some of my best races without a wink of sleep! so, if you can't sleep 1) don't stress, 2) breathe mindfully; such as "Inhale Peace, Exhale Calm", and 3) relax the skin and joints of your body. head bowed from a beautifully snowy Durango!
In my mind, the most obvious comparison would be the Addidas Boston 10. I'm approaching 300 miles in the Boston 10 and it is really growing on me as a more stable neutral shoe.
Preparation is important. (1) No screen time of any kind for at least 45 minutes prior to bedtime. (2) Consistency counts. It's not just the hours of sleep, it's the cycle. Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day are important. (3) On those nights when I'm not able to fall asleep right away, I focus on my deep-breathing and count sheep simultaneously. Yup, I count sheep. It clears my mind of external thoughts and before it almost always works within a few minutes.
♥️ your Vlogs from 🇸🇬 and how you piece all the shots beautifully. QOD: always find deep relaxing breathwork helps, 4 (in) 7(hold) 8(out) . sometimes it brings me to lala land within a couple of minutes! which then help us to turn the door knobs the next morning.
Just getting into running and I bought these after trying several different shoes out and for me it’s fun ride without spending a ton on a super shoe and even though it’s not ideal to always run in a carbon plate, i’m trying to enjoy getting into running and if i’m having fun in my shoes then this is great for me
🇫🇷 Hi from France. To fall asleep I’m whether reading couple of page of a book whether doing some PPG and bam I’m falling asleep pretty quickly and having some rest
