@emergenthub305
@emergenthub305 6 месяцев назад
That's an interesting way of looking at it, but when I studied this topic in school, we learned that the civil war was caused by the fact that the southern states wanted to secede. Had the south tried to defend their right to own slaves without seeking secession, there probably wouldn't have been a civil war.
@herrguru4264
@herrguru4264 6 месяцев назад
@@allanchurm Right to govern themselves, as the right to hold slaves anyway they chose... on the very first page of SC 1860 Secession Declaration, they listed the refusal of Northern States to return slaves to the south as the reason for Secession. *South Carolina Declaration of Secession, 1860* In the present case, that fact is established with certainty. We assert that fourteen of the States have deliberately refused, for years past, to fulfill their constitutional obligations, and we refer to their own Statutes for the proof. The Constitution of the United States, in its fourth Article, provides as follows: “No person held to service or labor in one State, under the laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in consequence of any law or regulation therein, be discharged from such service or labor, but shall be delivered up, on claim of the party to whom such service or labor may be due.” This stipulation was so material to the compact, that without it that compact would not have been made. The greater number of the contracting parties held slaves, and they had previously evinced their estimate of the value of such a stipulation by making it a condition in the Ordinance for the government of the territory ceded by Virginia, which now composes the States north of the Ohio River. The same article of the Constitution stipulates also for rendition by the several States of fugitives from justice from the other States. The General Government, as the common agent, passed laws to carry into effect these stipulations of the States. For many years these laws were executed. *But an increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations, and the laws of the General Government have ceased to effect the objects of the Constitution.*

The Cause of the Civil War , answered by AI. The Civil War in the United States, which occurred from 1861 to 1865, was primarily caused by a complex set of factors that had been brewing for decades leading up to the conflict. These factors can be categorized into several main sections: slavery, sectionalism, economic differences, and political disagreements.

I love the look on the face of the James McAvoy lookalike on the right when he realizes his candidate has just guillotined her own campaign.

"A common explanation is that the Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery. In fact, it was the economics of slavery and political control of that system that was central to the conflict. A key issue was states' rights."

Linconia was the name of a proposed Central American colony suggested by Republican United States Senator Samuel Pomeroy of Kansas in 1862, after U.S. President Abraham Lincoln asked the Senator and United States Secretary of the Interior Caleb Smith to work on a plan to resettle freed African Americans from the United States.
