You can tell that Bernie/Florian is telling the truth when the facade cracks for just a brief sentence, and the old voice of him as a soldier serving alongside Niko comes out
@@TheThing4444if to believe Niko stories he probably was the most coward out of the whole squad probably was the most inactive durning the fight and at the moment of 2008 he has nothing left from his soldier personality since expect of Niko who countinued his war path as smuggler after the war and was remaining himself in a good form Bernie absolutely abandoned his past and softened as much as possible.
could also be the ptsd that made him want to act out his new life to escape the horrors of war. it's a slight touch, but also very well written. @@GrexFilms
@@--Traveler-- I'm kind of curious if it's like multiple personality disorder, or dissociative identity disorder but less extreme, basically a portion of a personality or persona gets locked away until stress eventually causes that personality to arise.
correct. It can be exactly like that. So if the writer of this particular scene was going for it, even if unintentional has a really good detail in it to flesh out a character in a relatively short amount of time.@@saber2802
That's a neat voice acting detail. Florian is trying to keep his new gay guy voice but every time he gets angry over their past his Eastern European accent comes back.
Definitely still gay, though not as obvious because of a lack of cultural acceptance. Niko mentioned that he trained to become a sheperd and several instances mention that he wanted to become a pro wrestler. Niko mentioned both of these things in the same sentence with the remarks "What the hell happened to you?" and "Now that I think about it, it actually makes sense." He was probably quite tough, but being like that just awakens a dark time inside him, so he chooses not to.
Rage will make a person shake, cry and scream all at the same time. If you ever see that, hope you aren't the cause of it, and keep some distance until you can see some reason returning to them. Some people, who are good people, want to approach someone who is enraged too soon, and try to comfort them, and accidentally get hurt doing so.
Florian breaking his Bernie voice to go back into his real voice is something I never noticed. When I was younger, I thought his real voice was just an error on the VA’s part but Rockstar kept it in. Turns out I was wrong. I also never noticed too that Florian went into his real voice twice
I just love 1:45 when Florian/Bernie says _"I'm a lifestyle coach"_ and Niko looks at Roman how _"a... what?"_ I always laugh my ass off with that little detail, not everybody sees it.
what i like about this scene is that niko is faced with the reality that everything hes done in liberty city was for nothing and you can really see how much that is fucking him up trough his body language alone
I still love that break in character when Bernie's voice changes. Florian is still there, suppressed in some deep, dark place. It's almost like becoming Bernie was his way of dealing with the past, whereas Niko sought revenge. I also like how his voice sounds similar to Niko's when he breaks. Maybe him and Niko were extremely similar back in the war, and it goes to add to the shock value of how much they've changed. Imagine if GTA VI comes out, and Niko returns under some other name, flaming and flamboyantly gay, and clean shaven. I get the impression that's essentially the same exact thing we see here with Florian/Bernie. Either way, this cutscene is comedy gold. "See you later, Florian!" "BERNIE!"
Oh shit, don't give them ideas 😂 seeing Johnny getting his head smashed in was already enough, but seeing Niko like that would just break the story into pieces
Well, Tony Prince would be perfect to fill that role. He's THE nightclub master in the series, helping the Player in Online, and Miami is Nightclub central. I do hope Tony makes an appearance. Flawed but can still do his job.
I'd rather if they keep Niko's fate as a mystery because to me, Deal is the canon ending that makes the most sense for the story, as tragic as it is, but people prefer Revenge and want to imagine the Bellic cousins living happily after the story of IV. To me, the story works best when you realize that Niko truly lost it all, showing that he got into the wrong business if he wanted to move on
Bernie: I... I... I heard he was still in Europe, or Switzerland, or somewhere... but then I heard that you had joined the circus so information can be unreliable.
Man i really wish rockstar gonna add bernie become niko friends hangout just like other with roman, jacob and other cause i want to know how backstory of the war where niko & florian face it.
I think it would have been very interesting, two men who have been through the same things but who coped with them in very different ways. Florian lives a new life with a new identity and tries to leave the past behind (Watch how he gets upset when he's called Florian). It's actually really amazing how much he was able to seemingly move past the horrors he would have seen.
Man, I love this game. I just love to play through the campaign and being immerse in GTA IV's world. They did an excellent job with that depressing and dark tone the city and story has
1:39 I'm not gay but like after giving someone a scare like that and they justifiably insult me and apologize and complements me, that fucking constitutes for a hug as an apology for pointing a gun at them. Also I've come to realize I'm built like fucking roman
I think Bernie understood exactly why Niko did it... Despite the facade he would have been in much the same place Niko was after the war.. the voice cracks still reveal that he's never been completely able to let go.. he probably thought about looking for Niko and Darko himself at some stage. I think he would have simply appreciated how Despite his rage Niko still heard him out.
I kinda wish Florian could have been a friend you could hang out with. Just Niko getting to know Bernie, but sometimes talking with Florian about the war.
I did too at first.. but I don't think it was surprising that they both went their separate ways. Regardless of the fact that they obviously wouldn't be a couple, it would still be trauma Bonding..
@@tigrispanthera5496I doubt it, but he would have had genuine combat skills, Bernie put down the guns. Niko did not.. Niko would have probably gotten more formidable even after the war..
I realize this would have been a huge ask, but keeping the confrontation in their native language until the "stop the fat jokes" would have made this scene much more natural imo.
Man, Niko was mad. I don't know exactly what happened that Niko was betrayed, but I can't blame him. I'm kinda thinking they should have a video game that would cover his pre gta4 origins, but I'm not sure how that could be done.
I think during the war, as in Slovakian aka Russian military ways, they "traffic" humans but someone betrayed the group. Those people were killed and Niko survived. So everyone blamed him for it. I think that's the story or someone told the enemy where they were and they got ambushed.
@@subjectc7505 in uncle vlad, he said that he and his group was on a mission to ambush those killed innocent people not trafficking cuz Darko wasn't involved with Bulgarin for human trafficking
The way Niko says "Florian" when he first enters the apartment That's true anger and hurt in his voice Great direction and voice acting from the entire team who worked on GTA IV
Michael Hollick might not have had the best Serbian accent, but he certainly had the best Niko within him.. I can't help but see why rockstar chose him.
Just imagine if Niko could have had a choice between killing Florian or let him live. Florian has some interesting missions, no question about it however despite how finding him is a motivating factor for Niko’s story, he still has a relatively short stay.
Do you think Florian would want Drako dead or alive if he was at the scene where they finally meet him. He too was also a soldier who got betrayed so i find it off why he didnt come along
Man, Florian's facial animations are really rough in this scene. Compare them to Roman's, specifically the eyes, Roman's are very expressive while Florian constantly has this weird dead stare.
Its kinda understandable, cus its like "100 meters stare" They both saw everything that war had to offer, plus after pointing gun at someone's face, i doubt they would really good with emotion's
Did anyone else think that Florian was faking this personality to shield himself from getting killed? I totally expected him to betray Niko at any point.
One I noticed that’s so real because I’ve done it also with my friend, we’re both bilingual in English and Spanish, and anytime I got angry with him and to let him know I’m not joking and this is serious is that I would call by his first name, not his nickname that most people know him by, and I would also only talk to him in Spanish
Niko brought Florian out of Bernie, which is part of the reason he got so angry, especially when he said "DEAD I HOPE!". He didn't want to remember his old life.
Maybe even the time they were serving, Florian could've been possibly homosexual but not in a flamboyant way. And now that it was over he moved to LC and decided to start over with the life he wanted for himself as Bernie. But his mental scarring is deep and Florian will forever hide somewhere. Or it could be trauma that caused Florian to be like this but I don't think so
If this was Vice City or San Andreas, Florian would be an insane over the top gay caricature like that one random gang member from the OG Loc mission in San Andreas. But he's not. He's a former soldier who found a seemingly legitimate new path in life. I'm seeing another comment that suggests his change into "Bernie" was almost like a psychological escape, and I can buy into that 100%. It's elements like that which makes IV feel very authentic and easy to take seriously.
