The scariest part is it looks sluggish and really bad, but the defense knows its coming, sees its coming and still can’t stop it even if it looks slow or sluggish. Dont underestimate joker
Jokic's on ball game is probably something you have to defend to understand. It just looks slow watching it, but I'm sure he's countering your every move and putting it in on your first mistake.
@@DamnlmEvil I mean it's not as dramatic as an anime but it's defintely as deep. Take Marcus Smart for an example, he might seem like a stupid athletic all-brawn dude but when it comes to defense he actually thinks and he plays smart asf. Reading the moves, playing off the opponents mistakes, countering and body language and etc is important in the game.
You'd think certain types of players would realize flashiness is totally meaningless at the end of the day. All the best players have been fundamentally sound. One could argue Magic and Jordan were flashy. But if you actually watch them play I believe they weren't flashy at all. A lot of Mike's twisting/turning double clutch shots were done out of necessity and an attempt to fool defenders. Magic's passes were the same way, to fool defenders. Vs someone like Harden who does the dribble dribble dribble dribble dribble then takes 7 steps back to shoot a 3.
@@spartanv4335 I agree. He still has a lot to prove to be in that convo tho but he can definitely be considered as one of history’s best bigs in due time
There's a difference between being methodical and just slow. Doncic possesses a similar ability... it's not so much that they're slow, it's that they're pacing out their movements with the defender's and taking the first opening they see. In sports, timing is everything and sometimes it's the guy that goes slower than you're comfortable with that has his way with you. I liken it to baseball when hitters are used to facing 95 mph all the time, then some junk-baller comes in throwing 85 mph and he's tough to hit.
you take us calling jokic and doncic slow in the wrong way. of course they are fast and would destroy anybody not in the NBA. But in the NBA, they are slow, even compared to bench guys. But that doesn't matter, because still drop 30 at will any given night against any team.
Call him unathletic, slow, and overweight if you want but he is extremely effective, got sufficient cardio, highly skilled, got high court iq, and now plays defense and can get get physical and tough.
hes kinda like luka. They're athletic in their own right but they dnt got an athelete body. They just have good basketball fundamentals to carry them over others
Honestly, people look for power in these dunks, but that was quite elegant in its own way. Just looks like hes putting it in the hoop. Nothing more and nothing less, and I think that sums up the way he plays really well. He's just playing basketball. No flare needed.
This is a guy that has worked on the fundamentals instead of the show boating. Finishing is always more important then trying to look good while going for a reverse windmill dunk and loosing the ball while doing it.
@@keefy2346 he’s been playing decent defense this season but Tim didn’t play like Jokic. Jokic can shoot the 3 and is the best big man passer of all-time plus he’s slower/more unathletic than Timmy. Their game really isn’t that similar

The most versatile big ever and will go down as one of the best big men ever , the level he’s in right now is incredible to watch on a nightly basis , he is the MAN
@@gorcsauce696 1. physically strong, fit, and active. Um, he's strong and he's in good enough shape to play in the NBA without gassing out early. He's got great hands for a big, his long strides make him look slower than he actually is. And that extra fat doesn't help either. But that weight allows him to go longer than a guy with 2 percent body fat, and he can use it to body out smaller guys.
Dude is like Tyson Fury. Really big guy, seems "fat" and out of shape... but these guys carry their weight with ease. Highly effective in what they do and the surprising thing is that they have immense stamina for their size.
@@BuXnAMaN People might not like it but that is what a peak male body looks like. Reminds me of Fedor Emelianenko destroying all the roided up and super jacked opponents while he had a dad body.
I'd still draft him if I had a chance. The passing, the court IQ, the shooting, he's got it all. Did I mention the passing? Cause goddamn he is a beautiful passer. And if he is slow, why can't anyone stop him? Dude will be in the top 100 all time in 25 years time when the NBA rollout the 100 greatest players. Calling it now.
After a few years of practice, in the 90s, i finally managed to get a lob dunk kind of like that.... even after doing it i was like "was that a dunk?? I think that was a dunk? oh well, i'm counting it as a legit dunk." It's kind of fuzzy in my brain now as to how clean it actually was but at the time my ego said "good enough for me".... i thought i would eventually get a better vertical but life had other plans.... now in my early forties i feel like a phony for giving myself the benefit of the doubt.... so even if it WAS technically a dunk, i can't let myself accept it as a dunk. LOL The fact that it's a little hazy in my mind tells me it wasn't good enough to really count.... Jokic's does though.
@@kennan10101 you clowns are in love with stats 😂😂😂 Embiid is the best player in the world rn but unfortunately his dominance comes with too many intangibles that don’t show up on the stat sheet
@@Montanamac nobody said we were in love with stats, it’s just a fact at the moment. Look it up, that’s astounding. Embiid is top 5 to me rn but Idk who id put at 1st as of right now. There’s 3 guys that I think could take that spot on any given day. Embiid and Jokic play the same position but play very differently. Both are incredible talents that have revived the dominance of the big man
@@NathanielSnider1017 literally nobody who knows basketball would ever say Jokic defends better than Embiid. Every analyst who’s played the game is taking Embiid over Jokic all day. Barkley even just said a few days ago that Embiid is the best player in the world right now. I think I’ll take a Hall of Famers word over some Jokic dickrider
Looked pretty athletic to me. He is a 7 footer doing that from end to end. Oh and the reigning MVP. He is about to pass wilt the stilt in triple doubles and he has only played about what less than half his career. Joker will be a hall of famer! Just hecause he doesn't fit your definition doesn't mean he isn't great. He has totally refined the position of Center an innovator. He has changed the game of basketball. You are witnessing something rare a once in a lifetime talent. Knock it off with this unathlectic crap. No one can stop him!!! Period! Double team him he finds the open man. Guard him on on one he makes you look silly. He can go the basket and hook. Leave too much space at the 3 point line he sinks it.
If it looks easy it means they’re really good at they’re job. Jokic looks so effortless and makes everyone one feel like they can play centre. No centre in the league puts up numbers like Jokic.
And some are both impressively skilled and athletic, and efficient like Giannis, Lebron, KD or even Embiid … And yeah Curry isn’t very efficient this season but he was his whole career so i will put Curry into that mix. Thats why Joker isn’t very popular and will probably not win any other MVP, he doesn’t have the charisma both on the court and off the court, his playstyle is boring especially for casual, and he is already unathletic at 26yo, in his prime so i don’t know if he will be able to stay in shape and keep that level at 30+ yo … But maybe im wrong who know.
An NBA MVP doesnt play impressive 🤦🏼♂️ His Numbers are impressive so he plays impressive. What you're trying to say is he is not entertaining. People can argue steph curry is not a high flying, rim attacking guard and 3's arent as impressive as in your face dunks, but production is the bottomline hence he is impressive. Both players changing the game in their position.
Jokic won the MVP last year & got even better this year. He is putting together the best season of All-Time right now & it's going unappreciated by the more casual fans because all of Jokic's teammates are chilling on the IR. Don't sleep on Jokic. We have the privilege of watching one of the best & most unique players ever. We need to appreciate that. Just like how we watch highlights of Bird & Magic or Russell & Wilt & say "Damn that looks like a fun time to be an NBA fan, I wish I could have experienced that". 25 years from now, our kids will be saying "Wow, I wish I could have watched Nikola Jokic play live".

He is cooking all your athletic players. Guy is efficient and master at this game. No need for fast and flashy moves when you still make a fool out of your defender.
I remember watching the Joker play live and he kind of reminds me of Paul Pierce when he drives. They’re incredibly slow but their footwork is elite so it doesn’t even matter
Yep casuals dont understand that coordination and precision are harder to develop than increasing a vertical. What is the point of a vertical in a player who is not a good shooter or good passer? Messi might not be the best runner, best jumper or hardest kicker in soccer but he is probably the second most athletic soccer player in the world.
Jokic is probably one of the most if the not the most athletic guy in the league. You are conflating athleticism with jumping and erratic explosiveness. Jokic chooses not to be explosive but that is not the same as not athletic. As an athlete in a sport where skill and coordination are required, he is the peak epitome of basketball athleticism. He simply is not a high jumper by choice, jumping in itself is not a sign of athleticism outside of hurdles, long jump and high jump.
Being 7 ft tall and being able to do everything jn the game of basketball better than almost anyone makes you a pretty good athlete. Hes just different from the typical big man weve come to know over the course of the NBA.
@@alekseydrotenko3289 his power and coordination make him an incredible athlete at that size I agree with that. But his footwork and IQ are more skill related. He’s a great combination of both hence the MVP status
Jokic plays like someone who is very overweight. Which means he plays in slow motion but what you won’t notice is his strength. His strength is the reason he’s so unstoppable and the fact that he’s 7 feet tall and knows how to use his length to his advantage is another reason why he’s one of the best in the league
