That's because you're still wowed by fast dribbling, flashy moves black athleticism players; but watch the white boy playing with intelligence, he plays for go and not show; oh and by the way, I'm 100 percent black
@@xum0007 Fr people were giving him a lot of super star expectations but I was only expecting that on defense and so far he's met that. Even if Chet beats him for ROTY, he has a solid case for all defensive team along with Ausar Thompson
@@thetankman8 He played 100% of SPurs game with an average of 30 min. Before the start of the season a lot of analysts were saying he would have some extra resting days cause this the Spurs and because of his frame. The fact that he's playing every game even in back to back should tell us that the medical staff is pretty confident. SO, all good for now 🤞
i really like that you mentionned how hard it was for jokic in the first years. i've heard a lot of comments, and from respected analysts at that, downright turning on the kid, after laying *so* much hype on him in the pre-season and the first few games. i mean, he's 19, a rookie, and playing on a team that was tanking for him last year *and* that has been a losing team ever since kawhi left five freakin' years ago to begin with ! of course he's gonna lose a lot of games ! even mj had to wait until his fourth season for the bulls to have a winning record...
Arenas said it, the hype is gonna ruin the way we view him cuz we want so much alredy from him so a lot of people are disapointed they wanted the new MJ type rookie domination. But personally im still hyped, he is INCREDIBLY good for his age (and his potential is godlike for real). he will be dominant in a few years im 100% sure of this
Wemby is a flash in the pan. The league has learned to bully into him and force him into fouls. The Spurs are 4 and 21 for a reason. If Victor comes back around 230 lbs., then he can taken seriously as a future goat.
Wemby is just tall and should block shots, nothing soecial to puff up. Rest of the missing highlights is him shooting Bricks. If he was as good as the hype he woulda turned a dumpster fire into at least a .500 team instead of a last place team.
Another thing people need to understand is that he’s only been played 20 something minutes a game. 22pts, 11reb, 4 blocks and 6 STEALS in 25 min! Pop didn’t play him in the forth at all. This J. Sochan experiment is costing Wemby in more ways than we know. Only time will tell if it will pay off. Either way Wemby will be a beast in the coming years no matter what people think or say about him so long as he stays healthy.
I agree that as long as he stays healthy, he's destined to become a true powerhouse in the coming years. Looking forward to seeing his continued growth and success on the court!
@@dublewis547aaaahhhh the infamous hater. Point out the negatives all you want fam, but there is too many positives with him. When people say he is “going”(not now) to be great they ain’t saying he will be perfect. You got players now who go 9-27(Tatum,Booker) and do it at least 3-4 times a year and they been in the league 5+ years. So what is the reason to point out the fg attempts?
@@antonioribeiro9182he’s the most efficient player in history and his stats say it all. He’s not even stat padding. The most overrated player in history is easily Kobe Bryant though tbh.
Wemby is the real deal, if he can put up these stats at 19, I can only imagine how great he'll be 2 to 3yrs from now. Not bad for a rookie against the prime mvp. At such a young age and an NBA Career, he is showing he's got game and that will develop more in time. Let's give him that.
Spurs season ticket holder and it’s so exciting seeing this in person. I don’t mind him shooting as many threes because he’s just learning the speed of the game, toughness, etc. IMAGINE a 7’4 dude shooting at a high clip from the 3pt and mid range section.. we’ve never seen it and he’ll be the first to do it. Now I do wish he wouldn’t pass out so quickly in the post with a mis match but other than that Wemby is playing way better than I expected. he’s never really seen American basketball talent until now and he’s taking it like a champ.. AS A 19 YEAR OLD. All the Wemby haters are delusional and just mad
I get your point about the post mismatches, and it's a valid concern. Hopefully, with more experience, he'll improve on that aspect of his game. It's all part of the learning curve, and it's impressive how well he's adapting to American basketball talent at such a young age.
@@piwi2775they have a horrible roster, Victor can’t do it by himself. They are obviously gonna tank for next year so they can get a really talanted player in the draft and maybe in free agency
With players above 6'10 becoming more nimble/airborne than ever teams are gonna have to convert 30% of their overhead passes into bounce passes or wrap arounds if they're good on the quick draw. Guys like Chet & Wimby can clearly reach upward or jump fast enough to disrupt what teams are used to. Passers gonna need some Magic-esque trickery or force them to bend over.
You got a new subscriber. Your approach to basketball content is different from others (I like when people actually break down basketball more than anything else). Keep up the good work!
Wemby gets his weight and strength up , he can dominate the DPOY award year after year. Blocking ability is insane. dude would be insane on special teams in the NFL.
Wow, absolutely! Wemby's dedication to improving his weight and strength is truly commendable. If he keeps up this level of performance, there's no doubt he could dominate the DPOY award year after year.
I think one of the other things we need to realize is there are no other stars around him yet. Imagine a true star that can score and distribute for real... someone like a prime cp3. If he ever gets that, things will be so interesting.
You are exactly right. People of San Antonio need to fill their stadium every night Wembi is throwing his bricks and they need to be load as if it is a playoff game. He is just a must to watch and support and cheer for even if he throws away ball after ball. After this year, he will be 20, will have 80 nba games under his belt and an additional whole summer to improve shooting and stability of his legs. And if San Antonio decide to buy a good play maker that can fill him with balls, then San Antonio will be very very dangerous next year.
Its kinda sad see wemby losing a lot of games, but legends arent always made from greatness already, they build theyre own and see wemby build his own gonna be masterclass for sure. Incredible video, amazing analyze!!
Love your videos. great explanation especially at the end. I mean in my time the only players that had immediate impacts on their teams were Bird and Magic (with magic winning a title and finals mvp in his rookie year and bird getting ROY honors that year and both being college players). I like how Pop is letting VW play his game, so i am anxious to see what plays they will start running for him. Season is still young, its a young spurs team, and they need a true PG. I say to myself Pop needs to get John Wall on the team. Hes experienced, an all-star who can help develop the young guards and get Victor the ball. In time, like you said. LJ MJ Joker all took some time to develop it didnt happen right away. I am excited for VWs NBA future.
Wenbanyama is the future, he's got the right coach, and the right fan base, the sky is the limit, love his attitude to, he didn't come into the league claiming to be the king, his game shows he is working to get that title though, the NBA has a bright future, congrats san antonio from a Nuggets fan. Jokic, Luka, Yannis, Embiid, what a great time to be a fan. This is the golden age of basketball.
Wenbanyama is a game-changer, and I couldn't agree more about the bright future ahead. His dedication, paired with the right coaching and fan support, is a winning combination.
Jokic on Wembanyama 'He's 19 years old, he's not getting tired or getting scared. He's playing hard and he wants to be good. He's making mistakes, which is normal ... He's going to change the game, 100%. (So) just enjoy and watch the show and let the guy change the game.'
Here before this channel blows up to 100k subs! But seriously man, I love the approach to your content. There's a lot of NBA youtubers out there but the way you breakdown the games and tell it like a story unfolding instead of just telling stats and numbers is really unique and fun!
Jokic came to NBA as nobody, fat, 156th draft pick, played semi-pro club in Serbia, never played Euroleague game and for first 3 seasons he was garbage time player, substitute to Nurkic, Fareed and Plumley, played power forward, not center, and only when coach Mallone realized his potential as center and playmaker, he immediately became one of best players in the league. On the other hand, Wnbanyama is breed to be NBA star, to be 1st draft pick and given star role from the start with all offense and deffense centered around him and with all media attention! They are uncomparable in terms of league debut, role play in team in rookie season as well as play style and type of player and physique! Anyway Jokic droped 38 points (basicaly triple-double) on Wenbanyama and it was blowout win for Denver.
It goes to show that talent and hard work can overcome any preconceived notions or expectations. It's always exciting to see players like Jokic defy the odds and make a significant impact on the league.
@@GOATiology Maybe, maybe...or it exposes ruthless media machinery! I just hope media hype wont get into Wenbanyama's head! All while Holmgren (somewhat) quietly goes for rookie of the year!
@@escapedfromlazalazarevic what flags of two of poorest entities in Europe have to do with NBA or Wnbanyama? Are you having a stroke? Seek help and say no to drugs!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I couldn't agree more about Victor's incredible performance, 6 steals in under 30 minutes is truly impressive. It's a testament to his skill and defensive prowess on the court. And when it comes to Jokic, you've hit the nail on the head.
yo that last point about the importance of experience was great. even LBJ and MJ had some issues in their first years, yet i still critique too quickly
This is the perfect time for him to practice those tough threes. Trial by fire. I'm sure Pop is the one telling him to shoot those shots whenever he can. As long as he stays healthy and disciplined, everything else will fall into place for him
It seems like Pop is encouraging him to embrace the challenge, and I trust in his ability to execute. As long as he maintains his health and discipline, I'm confident that we'll see great progress.
Agree. Your perspective on Wemby's approach to taking so many 3s is spot on. It's evident that he's working on developing his skills in that area, and the process of becoming more efficient at it takes time.
I mean, Wemby posted a stat line in the game that had never been done ever by a rookie. And he did it in less than 25 minutes. The thing is, he isn’t playing with a true point guard. Who knows how better he’d be playing if he plays with a PG who actually is skilled in passing the ball.
there are many NBA players who could be stars if only they had a good point guard. Easier said than done dud otherwise every team would have done the same. Tre young is a good player but a disaster of a person. He wouldn't last very long, the kid cant grow up.
It's funny Jokic's highlights came when Wemby wasn't on the floor. Couple more seasons and pounds put on and Wemby will probably be in the MVP conversation. His height and athleticism along with his skill are crazy for such a young player.
Wemby's definitely got the potential to make a huge impact. It's all part of the game strategy, right? But yeah, excited to see how he develops over the next few seasons.
Beautiful vid buddy, great visuals, great editing, great script and so enjoyable delivering, voice, tone, speed... you are a nice guy, keep it up buddy.
Something i noticed somedays ago, and could notice even more in this video, is how hurt jokic looks at the back of his arms. Dude is always with scratches and red circles all over the arms, thats crazy
Jokic is the Yogi Berra of basketball with quotes like “I lead the league in scratches”. Hilarious and not joking. Maybe someday there will be an “S” stats column for scratches due to him
This kid is my new favorite player to watch... I still love watching guys like tyrese Maxey and Tyrese Haliburton, but he's the player to watch for the next couple years
Imagine if Wemby could shoot a sky hook like Kareem… He would be unstoppable. And that shot could mean less physical contact that could help him stay healthy.
Absolutely! Wemby's potential to add a sky hook to his repertoire would be a game-changer. Channeling Kareem's finesse in that shot could not only make him virtually unstoppable on the court but also reduce the wear and tear on his body. It's exciting to think about the strategic advantage and the longevity it could bring to his career.
He’s really really big and as coordinated as we’ve ever seen at that size. Interesting to see how his cardio holds up and also if he has a killer instinct to compete.
Love the emphasis on CONTEXT! Damn! We need everyone to get away from super-lazy, instant gratification, "thinking" and headline addiction , and get back to careful, substantive, deep-thinking. Try to put things into as much context as possible, folks. CONTEXT is EVERYTHING!
Wemby changed the game defensively when he was in. Unfortunately for him, jokic is too smart and skilled, so wemby was in foul trouble almost immediately. Next year, he'll level up on experience and be scary. He's the only guy I've seen intercept multiple jokic passes in a game
It is fascinating to see how Wemby f*cks with the mental heuristics these guys have honed over many seasons in the NBA. What the proper speed is for a pass, the safe distance from the defender horizontally and vertically, all the spatial geometry that applies when delivering a safe passes or getting off shots. And then a telescopic arm extrends beyond what reason and experience tells you is possible and deflects or steals passes. An endless sequence of wtf moments.
This kid is averaging nearly 20pts 10reb and 3bpg his rookie year.. shooting percentages are normal woahs for rookies. But he’s also doing this in less than 30 minutes averages is what really pops out. Once this team makes some proper moves and this young man trains and gets stronger and skilled This team will be in contention and he will probably average 30ppg 12rbg 3bpg on high efficiency few years down the line.
Wow, that's truly impressive! This kid is already putting up incredible numbers in his rookie year, and the fact that he's doing it in less than 30 minutes per game is remarkable.
I think the fact that he can always get a shot fake out of his opponents could be taken advantage of more by his teammates. Since the opponents know he's going up whenever he can they have to shot fake.
Part of Wemby's recent success is based on 7 footers not being used to a guy being 4 inches taller than them. I'm curious what it will look like when players stop trying to pass over Wemby and switch to bounce passes instead.
Wemby's height advantage is definitely a game-changer, but you bring up an interesting point about adapting strategies. I think once players start using bounce passes against him, it's going to be a whole new ball game.
One year and Wemby will be so good he will dominate already. Jokic always says he can read in advance what Pop is planning against him but there's Wembanyama who Pop just let be Wemby who can stop him.
Absolutely, the potential for Wembanyama is incredible! It's exciting to think about how he could evolve and dominate the game in just one year. Pop's recognition of his unique talent speaks volumes, and it's going to be fascinating to see how Wembanyama's skills develop over time.
Been watching this channel for a little over a month and I just now noticed your subscriber count… May sound funny but I got a little excited - I get to watch this channel blow up
Worth noting the Nuggets were without their 2nd and 3rd best player in this game. Jokic is the best in the league at making everyone else around him better. He is so good he's created a brand new player archetype, the floor general center. The Spurs, on the other hand, are doing Wemby a disservice with that terrible Sochan experiment. They need to pair him with a veteran point guard who can run the offence. They need some experience and leadership to help Wemby flourish in the NBA.
Absolutely, the absence of the Nuggets' key players was palpable in this game. Jokic's ability to elevate the entire team is truly remarkable, and he has indeed crafted a unique style as a floor general center. It's a testament to his versatility and basketball IQ.
The one I don’t particularly like in the NBA still is the blatant offensive elbow Jokic constantly uses to separate. It’s been illegal for as long as I remember but as soon as Jokic came around the refs started playing birdgame on the court. Personally, without his constant shoving he gets away with, he wouldn’t need as big of an offensive threat. Beast still but definitely not as efficient in the paint.
@@joerybicki1679 they got away with a few here and there but Shaq didn’t need elbows with his mass. Anytime I see Jokic highlights at the cup it’s always him flagrantly molesting the defender and just lazily laying it in. It’s not even fundamentals, it’s just cheating. Yeah he can shoot and is great with the ball in his hands but he’s got about as good a scoring game at the tin as his athleticism.
i see what you're saying but it happens more often than you think. MJ and Kobe used that elbow often. Lmfao. So many scorers do. That elbow and then that slight push off when you change direction. My god that dudes get away with so much but it's part of the game. I got to play college and coaches will look for ways to get around refs and play dirty against dirty players lmfao. It's funny but man it works. Shaq likes to step under you and then use his body weight to just move you. Lmfao so he gets close. Steps under you stealing your space and then if you struggle and push back...the refs might focus on you. Shaq then holds his position and demands the ball and then basically removes the chair from under these players and always creates space that way. It's so funny and so cheap. You almost have to make a SERIOUS rule to prevent it but how else do you play in the paint? Lol. I've seen shaq get close to dudes like touching and then just uses his butt to just push people away and he looks at the ref as if he was there the entire time. It's so funny players get away with all sorts of stuff dude. I've seen MJ push off so hard you can tell he is shocked that he didn't get a call. While everyone else thought the player slipped or something but nope MJ straight up gave him a quick push just enough to make him slip lmfao@@evancribben2080
@@tylerdurden9920 I know it’s been around and it’s more prevalent in the smaller superstars who like to drive but hooking, which is something Jokic does frequently was and is still illegal. You just described Shaq using his mass to move people, that’s not cheating, that’s physics. Jokic can’t finish without cheating because the dude has a 10” vert. It’s just cheap they let him get away with it because he’d a hell of alot less spelling to watch than he already is. Again, he’s impressive with everything until you watch him closely in the paint using his off hand all the time. I played 2 guard a long time and it’s difficult to defend a big guy who’s allowed to stiff arm you.
I remember when tony parker was just 19 yrs old and playing for the Spurs. His potential is not limited. Only staying healthy and with luck staying injury free will dictate his legacy.
all tall skinny players get injured a lot. Kareem was stronger and smarter than people remember and played at a time when fouls weren't given out for breathing on someone. Wemby is too young to make a judgement on his future MVP status as I have seen countless guys be praised as the next great player only they weren't, other teams will adjust.
Huh? Did you watch the game? Vic only had 1 Foul on Joker. ( A rip through) and didn’t pick up his 4th till the 1st min in the 4th. And didn’t play the entire 4th…
ill take any 19 yr old rookie producing 22 pts 11reb 4blk and 6 stl while only playing 25 minutes, against the joker with last year's nba championship roster, any day of the week.
Excellent breakdown-and an effective sub pitch. For both, I subbed. One small correction (easy to miss): Christian Braun’s last name is pronounced “Brown”.
This was 3 months ago. It is incredible how Wemby has gotten better in that little time span. Barring injuries he will become one of the NBA greatest all time players for sure.
