I have just purchased this lens literally today thanks for the review I look forward to working with it, some of us are still using a D200 and so far it works just fine
Cool. I just prefer to have a $10 reversing ring always on my 50mm 1.8. Whenever I want macro... flip the lens around on the camera and boom! Less gear to pack.
My experience: 30 years military photography, starting with Speed Graphic in the 1950s and though cameras from Minox to 5x7. Ii that recently damaged one in a fall and couldn’t wait to get a new one. It It’s not the snazziest but does the job very well. I use it in a museum setting to photograph small lapel pins and privately on my Nikon D90 as a standard lens and occasionally (with the crop factor) on my Nikon D700, although there, there’s a price to pay in pixel reduction, the lens is made for a DX format camera.
Looking pretty slick in that suit there Eric!! You've peaked my interest with this lens. I shoot with a crop sensor body, and this would be right up my alley. Price wise, outside of it being free of charge, can't beat it. I've never considered macro work, but there is a level of intrigue... I may rent it, just to have a play. it's great for price. I've one small problem, I usually do videos using my d3200, but when I use the 40mm lens in Low-light, I see noice even after proper settings. anyway to avoid noice.?
Eric Rossi thanks for your reply. I set ios to 800 in f/2.8, I use blue light because I need night effect and it's a indoor shoot. will this resolve if I use 35mm with f/1.8?
No, I use Nikon. All my lenses are vintage and have aperture rings on them =) With the new G lenses you can jam some blu-tack in the lever to keep the blades open.
I presume you're not using a Nikon? Unless it's got the aperture ring, the f-stop locks to it's smallest aperture, so you have to jam it open - very annoying!
