Thank you for the review. But I think you miss the point that this lens has the best bokeh of all Nikon F "50ish" lenses. No, it's not the sharpest lens and it has a lot of focus shift. But the rendering (especially for people photography) is incredible. And yes, it works great still today on mirrorless cameras like the Nikon Zf with an FTZII adapter.
It's a target lens for me. I used to have a Canon EF 50mm F1.2 L which is almost universally slagged off. Poor CA, heavy vignetting wide open etc. That is until you do portraits on natural lighting c f2/2.8. And like the Canon model I've mentioned the real beauty of this lens is how it renders colours and tones. If I could find a used one I'd buy it tomorrow.
58 mm on Crop frame is 87 mm equivalent on FF which is the closest focal length to 85 mm which means it would be the best portrait lens on crop frame as the 50 mm is a little short and the 85 mm is much longer and you would have to be far away from the person you are shooting for portraits on crop frame
This plastic lens is overpriced and complete tat for the money but some fool will purchase it! Consider a 60mm Macro or zoom lens that gives a 58mm if it is really wanted.
