The difference is a bit more shakey optical magnification balanced with carrying a breeze block as opposed to a house brick. The P1000 is an overrated gimmick that produces mediocre video footage and compact camera quality stills. A professional version with an armoured waterproof body and a sensor capable of acceptable images = yes. The current version = no.

I had the fz82 for about a month, then went for the Nikon P900 that has a bit more reach with 83x zoom, but that P1000 seems crazy zoom, just don’t tempt me, lol

Excellent addition to the arsenal Graham. I think I'll wait til they upgrade (apparently 2019) the '82 as I'm trying to justify buying a GH5. Of course not for the long stuff - just 1080 120fps stuff ;) LOVE the intro - sheer quality. Exciting times! Si.

Congrats on the new camera, I hope it brings you many years of joy. However, you could film a pair of granny stockings and I'd still enjoy your videos, I’m all for content and there’s very few British channels that can match you for video. Personally I think those looking for finite sharpness are missing the content of your amazing videos.

This is a tremendous. Thank you! How did you find the centre of gravity on the camera when the zoom was out at 3000mm on the tripod? Did you have a special mount? I have just bought one but all the reviews says it 'slumps' forwards? Thanks.
@gwafilms
@gwafilms Год назад
Yes very front heavy, I made a long plate for the tripod and glued rubber strips in positions that support the lens and the plate can be moved backwards and forward to balance the camera:

Your going to find that 4k will use up a lot of battery life, and to do edits will take allot of juice as well. 4k helps a little on RU-vid but I prefer 1080p because 4k to me is not natural, theres way to many pixels. And it looks fake. But I have to say, right now, your work looks so very clear. And I like it when I here your voice narrating your Journeys. Love your work! So you will be hearing from me allot. So keep up the great work, I love it. You capture some great stuff, see where I live we don't have them kind of settings to get close like you do. At least I never fond any. Thanks for your great work, and God bless.
@gwafilms
@gwafilms 5 лет назад
I haven't used the 4k on this yet but I shoot a lot of 4k with my fz1000 and the images look stunning on a big screen or projected on a huge screen but the rendering times are long too but I agree a good 1080p looks really good:-)

Hi Graham, excellent video I skimmed through the comments and I think I did not see anything regarding the tripod you use for the P1000, would you mind sharing it?. Thanks in advance.
@gwafilms
@gwafilms 5 лет назад
Hi, thank you, the tripod I have used for a long time is a Vinten Pro 5 but what I've found with this camera is that it becomes front heavy when the big lens is fully extended so the small standard plate doesn't perform very well so i have attached that to longer plate with a groove down the middle and glued to strips of rubber length wise and one strip of rubber across the width which sits just behind the focus ring and the camera can be slid back and forth along the groove to balance it and I had to get a longer tripod bush to attach the camera, its a bit Heath Robinson but it works a treat, I'm thinking of doing another review of pros and cons after 10 months of using the camera and I'll feature the homemade plate in that film, hope this helps:-)

Nice overview Graham. I must admit I am tempted to buy this beast! I currently have the Panasonic FZ330 which has the 25mm-600mm f2.8 Leica lens. I also put on the 1.7 TC which takes it to about 1,000mm but is quite long and you have to keep taking it on and off. The Nikon P1000 looks a good option for me for filming wildlife in 4K. I was surprised how stable the deer footage looked considering you were shooting handheld. Would you still recommend it?
@gwafilms
@gwafilms 5 лет назад
Steve Ferneyhough Thanks Steve, yes I would, I’m very happy with it. The pros are manual focus ring, big bright evf , 4K recording, people mention the small sensor but you’re not going to get that zoom range with a bigger one and the footage matches up pretty well with my LUMIX fz1000 & fz82, the cons if any is its heavy but after working with pro cameras that doesn’t bother me, cheers:-)

@gwafilms
@gwafilms 4 года назад
Jonty vlogs thanks, would definitely recommend it for filming, I don’t use it for stills but it’s heavy so needs a good tripod preferably with a plate and a lens support for when the lens extends, you can see what I mean in my channel icon.

@@gwafilms thanks a bunch, sorry to bother you but i hear bad things about the autofocus , is this true?
@gwafilms
@gwafilms 4 года назад
Jonty vlogs one of the selling points to me was that it has a really good big manual focus ring and I prefer using manual, if you switch to auto the ring changes the aperture, I sometimes switch to auto just check focus then switch back to manual and when I have used auto it ha worked fine and when I take the odd still, I haven’t found a problem.

First of all: Hi there ;-) 0:50 One Question: Did you say Manual Focus Ring? On my P1000 i just can adjust the ISO not the focus. Can you choose that in the menu??
@gwafilms
@gwafilms 5 лет назад
Yes it's manual, put the switch onto MF from AF and the ring becomes the focus with up to 5 focus assist peaking levels in the EVF, switching back to AF on mine adjust exposure up or down:-)

Great camera, but it does not seem to have improved the sharpness yet (i have p900 for a long time). I do not know why. Ideal conditions are needed to make the picture/video sharp. The rest is all kind of blurry. Anyway congratulation on new equipment.
@gwafilms
@gwafilms 5 лет назад
I suppose with a lens this long you're bound to get a bit of softness at the far end, I've use pro ENG lenses in the past and you get that even with those, especially the long ones, I've watched this film on a big screen tv and I think the image is very good and I love the big EVF, thanks for commenting:-)
@CypHiLL2007
@CypHiLL2007 5 лет назад
Before my P1000 i had the P900 too. I know what you mean, but i guess its just what it is. When you zoom through a massive amount of atmosphere 🤣 its blurry. There is no way to avoid that no matter what
@ZxSpectrum777
@ZxSpectrum777 5 лет назад
Thers some videos online with infrared lenses hooked on camera, sometimes "break" the atmosphere. But I spoke in general about the camera's sharpness for P900-P1000. Simply missing 1-2 steps to good results in almost every condition and regardless of the atmosphere, and not at full zoom. You must always edit it in a program if you want good results. I suppose it's always the case even on much more expensive cameras.
@CypHiLL2007
@CypHiLL2007 5 лет назад
For me the Coolpix Series is overall "just" for Entertainment. And they delivers !! 👍 Especially when it comes to price-performance right? I preordered the P1000 3 months ago for just 850€ .. couldnt resist.
@ZxSpectrum777
@ZxSpectrum777 5 лет назад
And it's fun, like everything else a man has created, but ... it can be a very creative fun. Regardless of my "critics" of the sharpness, p900 & p1000 are great cameras and worth it to have. Because the p900 is open to me the whole new world. Zoom is the key thing. For example, you can zoom a stone or enter the tree over water on the other side of the river. Infinite possibilities. Anyone who loves to photograph nature (and people too lol) must have one camera with a big zoom.

@gwafilms

Tech me Hi, it only has a small sensor thus the 125 magnification, I got it solely for wildlife cinematography but I have taken some pleasing stills with it and the bokeh is spherical and pro looking but you might be better of with a micro four thirds or DSLR for what you want to do but I’m sure you could get decent stills with it

Do you understand that if Nikon used a bigger sensor in this type of camera it would make a larger lens mandatory? This would defeat the purpose of having a camera with a 3000mm equivalent focal length lens in a small package. Any idea what a 3000mm lens covering a full frame sensor at f/8 might look like?
