Yep, I have the D7100 now and have been testing it. Take a look at the website or youtube channel. The short answer is yes, it does. Same issue. Auto white balance can be horrible on both cameras in some lights and the screen is very green tinted. Pictures look fine though when you bring them on your computer. Lightroom adjusts the tint a bit when you import the files in.

You may well be correct. I had to increase the aperture because the max shutter speed was limited to 1/4000 which makes it very difficult to conduct these tests. Most DSLRs can shoot as fast as 1/8000 of a second. If you love super fast glass and shooting on bright days, this could be an issue for you. Otherwise, it mostly just makes it difficult for testing and probably contributed as you said to the sharper looking photo.

Still a very good camera in Apr 2024. It's very comparable to the Canon 6D (which I bought and tried out for several months last year.) I thought the 6D was excellent, but I'm a Nikon guy, and this D610 also seems excellent so far.

Ok thanks! Appreciate the feedback. Sounds like an easy fix then....inconvenient maybe but not the end all beat all some are making it out to be. Should be a good camera tandem. Like the features and they should compliment each other nicely.

That is one rumor. The other is that Nikon uses a single motor to control shutter speed and aperture in live view and thus you will never be able to control both (Nikon opted for shutter control) and no firmware update would change that. It is a stupid issue and does get very annoying, especially if you shoot video quite a bit and do not have manual aperture lenses or variable ND filters. But, it does not hurt the quality so it may be worth it to just deal with it.

Thanks for the video! It really helped me quite a lot in choosing between the 6D and the D600, but I really would have appreciated a lot if you'd gone into the focus system. You don't even talk about it in a "full hand on review test".

after testing it myself the six hunfred seems like a good camera. prefered the feel of it comparded to the canon 6d. i dont shoot video which makes it a logical upgrade to the 7k. will wait until the spring to procure this black thing.

At the 7:30, you mention that the ISO3200 image on the right is "sharper" because of the "noise/grain". Assuming you are refering the the background (out of focus) elements, I believe it is because you shot ISO3200 image at f/8. The left ISO100 image was shot at f/5.6 hence the depth of field is shallower. Applies to all other images, i notice you didn't have a constant aperture setting in all your shots.

The D800 does not have this issue. It is a much better camera in many ways but it is close to $1000 more so that is to be expected. If you have the money, it is probably worth it if you don't mind a larger heavier camera
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 11 лет назад
Not the D600. Not that the quality is not good, but using it is a nightmare. The D800 is a bit better both in quality and usability but it still suffers in some areas compared to the Canon cameras for video. I hate it that when you zoom in to get focus, the screen changes to about 12fps...makes it difficult to get focus of moving objects.

Nikon doesn't assign numbers for any of the "Hi" ISOs because those are all outside of the sensor's designed range and anything higher than that is just a best guess they can't say for certain what those ISO values are. Canon will give you numbers for them but only after you go into the custom functions and unlock them first.

Great camera I have no spots and in also know if you send it in they will replace the shutter for you to fix your issue if you have it

i dont think those where dead pixels, sometimes with a little lag of light there can be some strange color noise because the camera cant identifie the area. i noticed this al lot when shooting stars with a few pictures

If you open up your files in Lightroom 5 it gives you the values. .3=8,063 .7=10,159 1.0=12,800 2.0=25,600

Many people have mentioned that with the D600 while using Auto White Balance there is a greenish tint to a picture. What is the best way to adjust to this? Can you compensate in any way ahead of time while in Auto? Should you switch to custom and stay there or is it just better to edit in post?

I'm sure the D800 does not have this issue, would it be worth it to save up that extra money and go for the D800 instead of the D600? Thanks!

Also do you know or have you heard if the D7100 is expected to or does have a similiar issue? I am looking at getting both and just want to know what I am getting into.

Is it true that they are working on a firmware update to fix the aperture during live video mode in the D600? I am wanting to upgrade my camera for mainly videos and the D600 was perfect until I heard about this stupid issue. Thanks!:)

so .. for video work ... D600 or D800??
@markpianoman
@markpianoman 11 лет назад
The two problems with the d800 is that the megapixels is just too high, and it has the two different memory card slots rather than two SD card slots...I won't buy it because of that!

Sadly that's Nikon's philosophy when it comes to video. Every camera they make that records video requires the Aperture to be set this way.

120 shutter count into mine and already had huge oil spots on the sensor. Really pissed off and gave Nikon the riot act.

I noticed the issue with dust/oil on mine before I had even changed the lens which is what signaled to me that this was a camera issue. Lucky for me I was able to return it but for many, you are stuck with this issue. What is worse is that instead of fixing the issue they introduce a D610 with a new shutter mechanism and nothing else which basically says 'we have an issue, we still want to sell new cameras, but we don't plan on fixing the your D600'. I called Nikon and all they told me is you can have the sensor cleaned but they will not do anything else. It is one of the worst things I have ever seen any company do and I can't believe they would do it with a $2000 upper level camera. It's a shame too because it really did produce some amazing images. I had a couple of hot pixels in mine as well but I purchased the first batch so I'm sure they have it better now.

LearningCameras.com I got a refurbished one. I have been arguing with Nikon for the last week and have gone at it Hammer & Tongs with them by email. They have my camera now but I told them that I want a D610 swap out or even happy to pay a fee or pay the difference for a D800 even (although apparently that has the same problem also). They refused so have threatened them with a consumer rights lawyer by emailing the CEO. I'll see what happens. If they say no I guess I will have to sell the body and upgrade to a D610 as I already have the glass. I think next time though I will wait till next year and go back to Canon and sell the lot and buy a 5D Mark IV.

LearningCameras.com Just an update, finally got a result. They would not cave and swap out, refund or change over to a D610 no matter what. So in the end I told them I would go through my card company for a refund and 'bingo' within 2 hours I had an email stating 'we are making a one time exception' and sending a check for the total value of the kit.

Euadam Great. I also heard of some getting a D610 sent back to them after sending the D600 in for service. Seems like the pressure might be getting to Nikon. The only response I have received from Nikon was "Nikon is aware of this issue and would suggest that they contact us with any questions or concerns they have so that they can be properly assisted"

Well after a bait and switch attempt by Adorama I finally bought a D800 refurbished with an authorized reseller called Roberts. Looking forward to it.

I will confirm, that the D600 is the king of oil. My camera is in for the 3rd time. And NIKON try to keep it a big secret - bad PR and service to NIKON customers. Otherwise great camera.

I think the inability to change aperture in live view is a show stopper for any one who has shot video. It just becomes too annoying having to switch back and forth. 2 dead pixels worries me as well
