In today's video, I use my Nikon D850, the 24-70 f/2.8G lens, and a Maven 10-Stop ND filter for some long-exposure photography of a Cypress Tree. The tree was in the middle of a small, shallow lake so I put on my Chest Waders that Heather bought me a few years ago and made my way into the water. The waders work perfectly and I was able to get the shot.

Phil ,I must sat that wading out into that in not in my wheel house. I must say you knew exactly what you were doing. You got the shot ! I wonder about a sunrise or sunset shot. That old D850 ,hard to beat. Years on the Cahaba river In Bibb county in Alabama. I shot the Lilly's that only grow on this river. There were folks walking out on the flat rocks that very slippery! I only had one camera body. I wasn't going to walk out on the rocks ,slip and fall and the my camera go into the water. I set up my tripod with a 70-200 and got some nice shots.

@@gregfisher216 thank you! I was actually supposed to be there at sunrise, but I ended up being a little bit late. I hope to try it again soon.

That’s what I call commitment. Great composition!! I wouldn’t have the guts to wade out there like that. 😆 I need to start thinking outside the box.

Thank you! I had the advantage of having seen the area in winter when the water is low so I knew it wouldn't be extremely deep.

I was thinking the whole time you might want to invest in a kayak, then you mentioned it. lol. I admire your dedication to photography, driving for an hour and wading around in a lake to get the shot. Great images, well done.

I really enjoy watching your videos with your calm ,easy going attitude , I though that was a good point to watch for the darker light in the back ground for separation , I was not consciously noticing that when I have been shooting kinds of photos like these, that 24-70 photo of the tree in the water is great ! , thankyou Phil.

What a fantastic little tree. You are brave to walk out there that far. I also agree with you about natural photography - you get what you get and I personally prefer that for myself. If you run into Ron out there, say hi for me!!! 🙏🤗💖

Good video. I used to love wading into Cypress-filled bodies of water when I lived in Kentucky to take pictures of trees, birds, amphibians, etc. There are no cypress trees here in upstate NY.

@@davidsaylors thank you, David! I can’t wait to do it again. I’m thinking about buying a new R5 Mark II when they announce it later this month. I won’t be taking that out in the middle of the lake, but I don’t feel so bad about taking this used D850 out there. 🤓

I really liked the real shot over the AI. Just curious did you play around with the aperture or just stayed at f11 the entire time? I got a good laugh at the 🥜deep! 🤣 I'm heading to a fireworks show tonight.
@PhilThach
@PhilThach 2 месяца назад
Thank you! I stayed at f/11. I needed that small aperture to keep the exposures long. I might have had better luck with something bigger to create more separation. I have a new 15 stop filter. With that I can get long exposures on a sunny day even with a wide aperture.

Hey there, I currently use a large Manfrotto geared head and it's getting a bit worn out. I've noticed the head you're using being advertised lately. Is there any negatives you've found using it ?
