Nikon Z Series Beginner Night Photography Tutorial

hi, I have a z5, I can't find the function to extend the exposure times beyond 30 seconds, I will probably have to update the firmware. I want to compliment you on this video tutorial, it's one of the most interesting I've seen so far, congratulations

Hey Chris, thanks for your informative vids! My Z7 Mk1 is updated to the latest firmware version (3.6). When I go to Custom>Shooting/Display, I don't see an option for Extended shutter speeds (d6). I just bought it used in great shape and updated it and my FTZ to the latest firmware. Not sure why it isn't there, unless it's hidden in the menu somewhere else? Any ideas? TIA!

Great information! Learned a lot new for my Nicon Z6. But I can´t find this "Extended shutter speed" option. I´ve the newest firmware (3.5), but it´s not there.

You‘ve omitted two important settings. 1.) Shutter delay. Set it e. g. to 5 seconds delay after pressing the shutter button and forget unsharpness due to camera movement. Why bother with the touch screen? 2.) Exposure bracketing. Why fiddle manually for the right exposure? Let the Z6 do the job for you. It‘s easily set up and generally does a better job. I would rethink using such high ISO settings as well, as you risk noisy images, no matter how well the Z6 handles noise. BTW: you can set levels of in camera noise reduction, too.

"put your camera back to daytime settings." That would take all the fun out of it.

The Z5 doesn't have the "extended shutter speed" option.

So you shoot your night photos in raw, or perhaps raw and jpeg?
