Today we are checking out another one from the incredible Flamenco artist Nino Miguel performing "Bulerias". Nino Miguel was one of the prominent figures among guitarists who developed Flamenco guitar from a mere accompaniment to cante to a full-fledged act. Nino Miguel only recorded two albums: 'Diferente' and La 'Guitarra del Niño Migue' and seldom performed on stage. Sadly due to his schizophrenia and drug problems, Niño Miguel spent a great part of his late life roaming about the streets of Huelva. Nevertheless Nino Miguel is an artist who deserves to be remembered for his contributions and inspiration on the genre of Flamenco! Have you ever heard of Nino Miguel and his music? Let me know what you think!

Dear friend, I couldn't agree more with what you said. Many artists are lost because of the results their record labels expect, and if it is necessary to give something more to obtain a certain result that is more commercial, then they do it. It certainly is so. Greetings 😇

Greetings! Yeah a lot of record labels have done way more damage by feeding them whatever it takes to get what they need when in the long run it would be cheaper to get them help and have way more music as a result!

Thanks for your answer. That's right, but I don't know why human beings always tend towards that which is incorrect or inconvenient, blinded by expectations. Greetings 🖐️🤠

The intricate rhythm is called "compas" in flamenco. Bulerias compas is a cycle of 12 beats with accents on 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12 (the one well known popular song that uses that rhythm is "I want to live in America" from the musical Westside Story). Important 'breakpoints' in bulerias are usually at beat 3 and 10. To further complicate things, melodic phrases often starts at 12 (in "I want to live in America" the "I" is on 12). Guitar and clapping ("palmas") both follow the compas. One of the clappers often does "contratiempo" (half-beat). Clapping half-beats almost continuously at such a high tempo (about 230bpm) is one of the things that are pretty much impossible for most outsiders. At lower base tempos sometimes the palmas does triples or even "redoble" (re-double; 4 claps per beat). contratiempo palmas explained: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lYoY9H9WXX4.html redoble palmas: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hqk2ZTJyWFc.html A bulerias by a less well-known and somewhat underappreciated guitarist that i highly recommend, in terms of technique he is perhaps faster and more precise than Paco de Lucia, and musically he is definitely very interesting: "Jucal" by Gerardo Nuñez (excellent palmas included) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1EDa-aM-c1Y.html

Killogic effect, a thing that intrigue me is the influence that spanish barroque music, in one hand, and welsh and irish music at the other hand both had in the "american country" music light up. That's a nice matter for a research work, in some way i suspect the roots can be found at the texas republic early time folkclore. I wonder if such thing like any texan composser music sheet from XVIII century was in someway even written to explore the moment in which that fussion happened. To find the very clossest example of how the novo hispanic music for guitar could sound nowadays we still have the "cuban old trova", on the side of welsh folkcore still have reccordings of music groups as "plethyn" to see how that mix could be happened.

I think it had a lot more inspiration around the world musically than it gets credit for and it would be an interesting topic to explore!

Really great to see what you're doing and your recognition of flamenco guitar maestro El Nino Miguel. About his strings: the tops are steel but the bottom 3 are nylons and they come in 3 colors that I am aware of (Reds, black and clear). Looks like he had reds broke the bottom and replaced it with a clear. I've seen Paco do the same. About this Buleria sounds like he's playing falsetas from 2 or 3 bulerias for this performance. Paco de Lucia often in concert will combine different bulerias into one show piece. Take care my man. 😊

Thank you very much I really appreciate that! I thought there was something going on with the strings so now I get what going on thank you! Such an awesome genre of music with some really incredibly musicians that I am enjoying learning about!

There were many greats from that Paco de Lucia generation with Miguel being one of them. I would also add Manolo Sanlucar and Victor "Monge" Serranito. There are other greats along with them, too many to mention here.

Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed this as much as I did! Such a sad ending for such a brilliant musician that should have made many more albums I wish he would have gotten the help he so desperately needed!

Thank you. I recommend "Adiós" by Diana Navarro. It's like an angel singing. As for the video, all you need is a guitar and three palmeros (that's the name given to the people who accompany them with applause) to make wonderful music.
