I will never understand why the RU-vid algorithm doesn't feel like there's equal room in this world for you and ppl like Arlo. Like, why is this channel still this small?
I think Pikmin, alongside F-Zero, deserve more releases. Not everyone's a racing game fan. Some people are "spacemen who go to a planet and throw the inhabitants at their natural predators" fans.
I’ll enlighten you on a different alternate reality: _”In F-Zero Awakening you can romance the racers and Captain Falcon's lines all were localized into Falcon noises by Nintendo Tree House. You can choose a Bounty Hunter, walk around cities and catch criminals and beat up thugs. You can do lots of missions GTA style in this Spectacular F-Zero game, besides just racing for prize money. And yes you can Falcon Punch Criminals but you gotta go out of your way unlock it along with other fighting moves”_ _”Fire Emblem Climax would be the last FE game and it would be a Japan only release, due to the anime tie in not doing too hot despite the massive push it got”_
Yea I thought it was rly weird when they released F-Zero and then prominently announced the day after that they would explicitly not be making another F-Zero game and that Captain Falcon was blacklisted...
I understand why you put Splatoon in the consistent tier, but I don't think it's a far cry away from the constant tier at this point. We have two titles on a single console, the games sell like hotcakes especially in Japan, and peripheral content such as comics and goods are going strong. Nintendo also seems to group it with the big three these days on social media and in their physical stores, so I wouldn't be shocked if the big three (and Kirby) become the big four (and Kirby) within the next decade.
I still dunno why there isn't... Anything with that. It's not even like regular series dormancy, it just feels like they ACTIVELY wanna keep it as just a 8 bit era retro memory outside of Smash. Like rather than "we just haven't gotten around to it for x reason" it's "no, that one is staying right where it is". Like even before brawl and uprising Kid Icarus had more than 1 game but ice climbers just being the one time feels deliberate to me
Fossil Fighters would definitely be neglected by Nintendo ever since the fallout of the terrible 3rd game not to mention Red Entertainment got sold to a Chinese Game Studio and Art Dink worked on Triangle Strategy.
It kind of stinks, but *man* revisiting the first game after a long while really reminded me of why I loved it so much. Aside from all the little sentimental reasons of course.
14:53 I think Arms is for sure getting a sequel. Time will tell if it enters the "consistent tier", but I'm confident they'll be a grand sequel for the next generation (maybe even a launch window title 👀)
I think arms could be one of those games that get one entry per console But we will see Arms deserves more attention It sold decently Also arms was developed by the mario kart team and they’ve been busy with the dlc we have to factor that in
That last bit about Smash Bros kinda got to me. I like Smash's more recent focus on third party IPs, but I also miss having less influential characters like Captain Falcon and the Ice Climbers be celebrated alongside characters like Mario and Link. The Ice Climbers' unique representation in Smash is the main reason why I want this random franchise to come back so much. I hope the next Smash game (if they make another one) will manage to balance hype inclusions like Steve and Sora with celebrations of "smaller" IPs.
Smash legit just became an advertising tool, I miss the weirdos and randos that were added outside of "Sakurai's been playing this obscure JRPG and decided to add it in"
Definitely. I feel like because of characters like Sans, or Waluigi "Needing to get added," We don't get the weirdest characters we could that make Smash feel so out there. IE: I would love King Bob-Omb to be added, but he's a sadly irrelevant character so he has no chance of being in smash.
@@E_Fig05 I agree with you, but to be honest, I do really want to see Waluigi in. I feel like one could make any bonkers moveset for him and it'd still fit his character. I mean, just imagine a fourth-wall-breaking Waluigi in Smash
@@galegopaulista4564 Don't get me wrong, I still want Waluigi in smash. I just also want King Bob-Omb in it, and the mainline characters have stopped the bonkers characters from getting in (Minus Piranha Plant).
Nah they’ll just repeat the massive success of Fire Emblem with another shill inclusion of the newest flavor of the month protagonist, especially if Sakurai is somehow brought back for the next game or involved with it, he’ll find a way to sneak in Alear like he did with Chrom, making up the Echo Fighter Concept and then not doing much with it.
I took a look into it, they have over 300+ IP's (Including spinoffs) Thats INSANE! They have so many wonderful series that I too would love to see them bring back
They can’t delay the game The franchise was designed so that every aspect of it has a symbiotic relationship The games can’t release without the anime the merch and the manga and the manga the merch and the anime can’t release without the games And it’s about time you all understand that by now They are doing their best trying to balance the games with the tcg and the anime The Pokémon franchise is like a game of jenga If you move one thing it all falls apart They are doing the best they can sorry I’m the only one who appreciates that Unless you want them to hypothetically release the Gen 10 anime and then wait till the anime gets to Gen 15 to release the Gen 10 games
We can criticize Pokemon all we want stop treating them like they are a king and your nothing but a peasant dude we are the Customers we have the say and we are telling GameFreak we want a better Pokemon experience quit being a shill and think.
Why’s Metroid on the same tier as Star Fox? Maybe we have to wait for Prime 4 to cement things or something but I don’t think those two franchises are nearly on the same level.
Metroid has definitely gotten/is getting more love this generation than Starfox, but there's still time this gen for Starfox before it's got it as bad as the Dormant tier series.
Advance Wars is Famicom Wars. What we call Dual Strike is just "Famicom Wars DS" in Japan. Same with Battalion Wars; seen as separate IP by those not in the know, but called "Famicom Wars CHARGE!!!!" in Japan. With "Wii" I would bump it up a tier since Switch Sports, while shit was pitched and sold as "Wii Sports 4." There's also Miitopia: Horse Definition to consider. I've heard both sides of the argument on including the Tomodachi games in the "Wii" IP. I personally do, but I can see why someone would make a distinction when Pilotwings Resort is a thing that exists.
If Dead Rising Deluxe Remastered is one of Capcom's "trying to revive its IP's", then I guess this could mean we could see (Darkstalkers, Breath of Fire, Sengoku Basara, Mega Man, Viewtiful Joe, Rival Schools, etc.) be revived...just saying.
I feel like it’s the same case with Morrigan from Darkstalkers, they added her in Marvel Vs Capcom but have yet to add her in another Capcom Franchise that’s still doing well.
@@squallleonhart9387 The funny thing about darkstalkers is that there really is no reason why they don't bring it back at this point lol. I know Ressurections apparently low sales (it's debated still iirc) is the popular stated reason nothing a new game didn't happen after but it turns out a lot of it was just internal disagreements between key staff at Capcom's fighting game division at the time and another important figure in the company. But that said figure has long left Capcom yet even now after the recent capcom fighting collection being so darkstalkers heavy, the new FG leads at Capcom have flat out stated that they just have no plans for a new one even if the collection sold well and while i haven't checked, I'm sure it did. So at this point its not money keeping DS shelved, it's just... No one with any pull there WANTS to do it atm. And going by Miyamoto's own comments on Fzero coming back in the past, it sounds like that was the same mindset until just recently with Fzero 99 shining a light again. We'll see what happens next but signs of life are there
You had me hooked at the Skooks reference. Jokes aside, great video, dude! As a hardcore DK fan, it has been a little annoying to not get a new game, but there's been so much we've gotten since Tropical Freeze that I'm pretty satisfied, and confident that we'll get something... eventually. Wouldn't mind if ARMS got another shot, too.
Kinda irrelevant, and impossible, but could you imagine if Nintendo allowed (under their supervision) Indie Devs to make games using the Dormant/One-Hit-Wonders IPs? I had an idea for an Arms RPG, but as nothing more than a wannabe Indie Dev, I will never be able to support Arms by making the sequel Nintendo never would.
Honestly, Nintendo should really take a year or so to take a break of Mario and Zelda and just focus on the Inconsistent Series. Earthbound, F-Zero, Metroid, StarFox, Hell maybe even Chibi-Robo. The year of forgotten would be great for the company maybe restart the life of these series.
@@MCToons918 Earthbound is not an option Shigesato Itoi out right said he runout of ideas for a new Earthbound and wants to due other things. I recommend Eastward as a successor. Chibi-Robo's creator (Kenichi Nishi) left the company a long time ago, so a new game would be the same without him. The good news is that he didi work on Pixel Game Maker Series Puzzle Pedestrians and Moon Remix RPG Adventure.
Codename Steam is a lot cooler looking than i figured. Looking back i don't even remember why i didn't pay much attention when it was new. I think it really was the name making me think it was something unfinished related to the other Steam in gaming, idk
It really sucks about Arms, they were really pushing it as the next Splatoon, it got its own direct, they even gave it a character in Smash but it was already too late unfortunately.
I’m glad you would change Neglected went to Dormant. Since EarthBound should be rereleased for people to readily access (including Mother 3 in the west) but as it goes for new games, that series can remain completed as Shigesato Itoi’s personal series.
There are some very exciting indie games in the works that may help bring back F-Zero and Custom-Robo, they're called Aero GPX and Battlecore Robots. But yeah, I get what you mean. Thing is, I'm a performer and writer, not a game developer. If other developers out there incorporate ideas from the One Hit Wonders I like, I'll definitely support them!
@@ATalkingSock I genuinely have a lot of directions to point to for where Nintendo could take Star Fox, to hopefully bring it to new heights. Exhibit 1: Pretend Command never existed.
I think Nintendo is my favorite game company mainly for their variety. Even though I'm not a fan of ALL their series, there's still so many spanning dozens of styles, gameplay, genres, and tones. Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, WarioWare, Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Famicom Detective Club, Splatoon, ARMS, and those are just the ones with new releases on Switch! Then you start sifting through the dozens of other games and series trapped on certain consoles and generations and it's honestly incredible how massive Nintendo's family of franchises are. And honestly I kinda love how there's a 1 in a million chance any given Direct will reveal a revival of a forgotten series. It happened with Advance Wars and even Famicom Detective Club of all things, so whose to say it can't happen with F-Zero or Custom Robo.
I’ll say, I’m glad all those Fire Emblem games from Awakening until now didn’t stop Advance Wars Reboot Camp from happening, now if only we could get a Panel De Pon/Puzzle League Revival, yep that’s another series intelligent systems worked on, maybe have it crossover with Puyo Puyo?
I don't know Sock DK has a very different thing that happens to only that IP that is being thrown together with Mario and the Mario IP has very different aesthetic than DK so DK ends up having a whole lot of brand recognizibily but not a whole much of brand appeal. People only know DK as a Mario character which isn't the case. So yeah the DK may get a lot of things with DK on it they aren't for DK fans tho, they are for Mario fans.
Normies see him that way, sure. But those are the same people who play Smash and ask if Kirbyb is a pokemon lol I get the frustration from DKC fans, but I remain adamant there'll be a new one soon, and even if not, the DK franchise is not even close to comparable to the likes of F-Zero or even Starfox
@@ATalkingSock Oh I do agree I wouldn't put DK on the same tier as Star Fox and F-Zero but I do think the DK ip is more comparable to the Metroid and Pikmin IP, because even through out DK's history the ip has been in a lot of droughts or dark ages per say from 1984 to 1993, from 2002 to 2009 and recently from 2015 to now. I wouldn't call it a neglected series but a inconsistent I think I would.
@@diegocalderon5190 I know rare dk folks refer to it as a drought cause... Its not rare doing DK like they grew up with, but that period between 64 and Returns was still getting plenty DK activity. And its the era of DK i grew up with personally so it's always a little annoying to see that dismissed as "nothing happened then DKCR came". Cause yah it was different but a lot of what DK was doing at the time was cool and not even devoid of DKC stuff. Kremlings and most of the Kong fam were still very present at least. And even if you didn't like those new games country stuff got the cool gba ports. There was no drought or dark age back then truly.
@@MagillanicaLouM I kinda agree and not, yes there was a lot of stuff and most of them with the DK universe, the games were very focused on gimmicks and I think that hurt the IP. If you want somebody to explain this better I recommend the Geek Critique videos on DK, he goes over the whole franchise talking about how the IP with the good and the bad.
I think I would move Fire Emblem down to “Consistent Tier” also I like how you threw a bit of shade on it, some people think it’s overstaturated even outside of Smash.
It's honestly not fire emblem always switch it up each entry unless it's a sequel or tie in game. That's why each title has drastic different opinions on it within the fanbase.
@@darkstalker696 well consistent in this context it's not talking about consistency between like game design or mechanics but just that its expected Nintendo will make at least one in any given console generation. And i think even before the Awakening boom they always did that for FE but could be wrong.
@@darkstalker696 Fire Emblem isn't really a much of a Nintendo franchise more so an Intelligent Systems franchise. They're not owned by Nintendo, but they do have a strong loyalty to them. They also make Paper Mario and Warioware.
Pikmin in the infrequent tier? Even disregarding the latest direct, I think Pikmin belongs to the consistent tier. Gamecube - debut of the franchise with 2 games on the system Wii - Ports of the first 2 games with motion controls 3DS - The game all Pikmin fans hate Wii U - Pikmin 3 Switch - Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin 4.
Yeah. 2's a coincidence, 3's a pattern. The Wii ports are nothing to sneeze at, but Pikmin 3 being in developing hell made us wonder whether Nintendo would go to the trouble for more titles. Then Miyamoto soft confirmed 4, but it too went through development hell and we didn't know whether or not Hey Pikmin was an attempt to compromise the series and ride the series' future on it like Chibi-Robo Ziplash. I've been anticipating it officially becoming consistent since Bloom launched and now, I absolutely 100% agree!
DK is a mario spin off so mario and DK are technically under one roof I consider them just hibernating or taking a break No ip is ever truly dead they can be brought back at any time
I feel like a lot of the reason Arms failed was because of its gimmick. A fighting game using the controllers to punch and move is amazing. However, because of the long arms the punches come out really slowly as you just hold the punch waiting for it to connect and then slowly coming back to you. It made for slow gameplay and the punches didn't feel right because of it. If you could take Arms and then remove the extending arms of it and maybe make it more grounded I feel like it could have worked really well, but then it wouldn't be Arms at all so.
Playing ARMS at any level beyond "I just booted the game up for the first time" is not slow at all. There's a lot of maneuvering around and all the characters have unique mobility for zipping and weaving. And arm retraction time is a mechanic itself that varies depending on the arms you equip, it's part of the strategy of it all. And the motion controls are optional anyway, the different control schemes are like the first thing shown whenever you turn it on. It didn't fail, it's very publicly been considered a success by the devs. It sold more than the likes of Xenoblade 2 and like... Most of the Kirby and Metroid series but i know sales numbers aren't all that matter. But it's the baby of the team that made it, the same team behind Mario Kart 8, I'm sure if they say "yeah we're feeling like ARMS 2 now" they've more than earned the right for any ninty bigwigs to let em so really the only thing ARMS stumbled in is audience impression. It's just Nintendo fans are weird about IPs that aren't on Mario or Zelda tier and doubly so about any fighting game not named Smash bros. But even then it's not overwhelmingly negative. Whenever i see ARMS brought up outside they fans, yeah you get jabs thrown, pun not intended, but i always see more "hope there's another one" "it deserves another go" "there's potential, id like to see more" as the more often than not. I mean even Metroid for a while there outside it's core fans I've seen folks clown on how "it's not important to Nintendo" "it always flops cause it never does Mario numbers, why should they bother" but then Dread comes along, sells (very similar numbers to ARMS btw) and folks are giving the series the props it rightfully deserves again. My point being gaming community is weird and often times saying shit for the sake of saying shit, especially if you're looking at Twitter for discourse, don't assume it's all a blanket indicator of how well any given game has done at face value lol
I have to wonder why your tastes in entertainment is so niche, sometimes it feels deliberate. I don't think it's because it makes you quirky and different, but it doesn't feel like you're always whining, "WHY DOESN'T NINTENDO CATER TO ME?!!?" either.
Luck of the draw, I guess. Even when Nintendo does revive dormant series, they're almost never the ones I like lol. That said, I'm going to become an Advance Wars fan or die trying lol
@@ATalkingSock I appreciate your honest responses when people give advice, critiques or even blunt questions. If only the same could be said about other gaming youtubers who will hide comments or act defensive/rude because they didn't got a comment that doesn't shower them with praise.
Why does every video game need a sequel/become a series? Why can't we just let them be what they are and move on? It seems there is this weird culture around mostly video games and movies of always wanting more and I honestly don't see what we as a society would gain artistically from a chibi robo, duck hunt, codename steam, ice climbers etc sequel. Most of my favorite games of all time are just a standalone thing that won't get a continuation ever and altough I love thinking about what a part 2 might look like I'd much rather have the people who worked on it create something new that would go on to be someone else's favorite game than them feeling the need to please old fans
I understand this pov specifically in relation to games that are a) accessible and b) tied themselves up with finality. I don't want a new Mother, or Sly Cooper, or Shovel Knight, nor do I think there should have been any Xenoblade Chronicles sequels. But Codename STEAM has characters and mechanics that could use further exploration. F-Zero has never had an HD or online experience. Starfox has never had the chance to expand outward like its comicbook influences have. Not all games SHOULD go forever, but some should at least have the chance to demonstrate why they're still not tapped. Countless Starfox, Metroid, and F-Zero pitches have been turned down by Nintendo and it's a darn shame the company is so unwilling to grow those series the way games that came out under more fortunate circumstances like Mariokart or Splatoon did.
Wonderful 101 is on other platforms so I don't think it's Nintendo's. They just had exclusivity rights when it came out and was built for Wii U. But its on at least Steam now so definitely not a thing Nintendo owns. But yeah Astral Chain is really cool but like genuinely so forgotten, i wonder why.
They wouldn't even need to do that if they're more willing to work with 2nd and 3rd parties. That's how we got Advance Wars back, and Famicom Detective Club, and even 2d Metroid.
@ATalkingSock that's true but, they have so much money in the vault. I want them to make at least a couple new EPDs at least. Even if there are more than enough games for us to play, it would be nice for veteran first party developers to have more opportunities for leadership positions or new developers to have more job openings.
