I wouldn’t be so sure. Wonder is a mainline game, so they can already make new characters like that, but we won’t know until the next Paper Mario game whether or not that character freedom also applies to spinoffs. The remake doesn’t tell us much.

That's what I'm saying it made Mario look more tough and more epic alot of us fans been wanting Mario to fight again just imagine a 3D Mario game with Mario's moveset from Super Smash Bros Ultimate and have Mario carry an inventory similar to Zelda and have his ultra hammer from the RPGs and he gets battle upgrades as you progress through the game Nintendo really needs some new ideas the basic jumping platformers are getting old and I don't want to see any more Mario party games.

A Mario game that did something similar to your idea was Super Paper Mario, with its many Pixls. Each and every one had a unique ability that you could call upon to help solve puzzles with, fight with, or access new places. It would be cool if the next 3D Mario could do something similar, I liked the idea of Pixls in SPM, but they had limited use in that game.

7:29 because what they can do is have challenge rooms for each power up where you have to be a pro at that specific item, kind of like a test of strength from LOZ BOTW. and once you onlock it, there can be certain situations or entire levels or some places where you can only use one power up or only one power up works the best for that area/level

Actually you know what would be really cool if they made Bowser his own game taking the focus off Mario giving us a whole new perspective. I mean it was really cool how we got to control Bowser in the end of the game smashing through blocks and with the whole level falling around you.

Maybe Cappy's Sister could have a chance at being a hero with whole new power ups that Cappy wouldn't have like being able to give Mario teleportation or Taking control of items and enemies like Mario being able to turn into a fireball and bounce off the ground for a limited time or being able to turn into a sword and having the ability to whack fireballs back at Bowser.

They should have made Odyssey 2 already, all they had to do to make it feel fresh is let you combine the enemy captures with the fire flower, they'd just need to add a fire attack for the cap transformations. But the more time passes the less likely Odyssey 2 seems.

Remember that leak Nash Weedie gave us last year about the next 3d Mario game being a multiverse crossover game between Nintendo's big IP'S? I think this is the big 3D Holiday Mario game that'll be bigger than TOTK and Mario Odyssey. Super Mario Multiverse is my prediction title for this game. I definitely trust the 3D Mario team to keep innovating and to give us a moveset as good as Odyssey’s, if Cappy doesn’t return I think the most important question is what will this new game have that allows the player to have significant control of Mario’s movement in the air (like Cap bounces in Odyssey, spin jumps in galaxy, the hover nozzle in Sunshine and Jump Kicks in SM64)

mabe when mario has a power up and he takes damage, he doesn't lose the power up just health or bring back Mario's pyrokinesis from the mario RPGs and can give him a bunch of new abilities

While I think Cappy is like the "Perfect 3D Mario gimmick," I kind of agree that it's hard to bring it back and Odyssey may need to stand out more or have a very direct sequel to bring it back. But Super Mario Journey going a more LoZ route regarding all the different power ups sounds like it would be an awesome addition.

Oh there's definitely going to be something new. The 3D Mario team always comes up with new partners/abilities (and seems to design it around the console) and they've mentioned in interviews about how important it is to have some kind of jump extension ability in 3D (think the Hover Nozzle in Sunshine, the spin jump in Galaxy, or bouncing on Cappy in Odyssey). They'll certainly come up with something new and design cool abilities around it.

I really like the "powerup inventory" idea you talked about starting around 7:39. Here's my ideal powerup list for this hypothetical game: Fire flower Super Leaf/Tanooki Suit Mini Mushroom Penguin Suit Cloud Flower Gold Flower (EDIT: In this hypothetical game, Gold Mario's "fireballs" aren't really fire and thus can't do some things Fire Mario's fireballs can) Super Bell Elephant Fruit IDK why but I think eight is a good number to have.

Yeah, but Cappy is basically Mario's hat now. If he's not there, then Mario wouldn't have his signature red hat. You have to remember that Mario's hat was destroyed at the beginning of Super Mario Odyssey.

In a 100% image for Odyssey, Mario has a new cap with Cappy as a separate entity. There IS no continuity in Mario, so Wonder happening before or after doesn't matter. Plus, I doubt Cappy would just stay on Mario's head forever. He kinda has his own life to live.

I really want something new. Having this many useless moons is incredibly boring for a normal play session, and cappy just makes every enemy a power up and it makes most enemies redundant. Why have enemies at all when they're all just power ups?

I won’t miss Cappy, and I don’t even think Mario needs that big of an addition to his move set. We found out with Mario Galaxy that Mario doesn’t need some crazy move to make him fun. If we look at sunshine the best levels are the secret levels and that may have something to do with Mario sunshine having the best most crisp move set but if Mario just has nice movement I think the game will be fun. Also I found sunshine and Galaxy more fun than Odyssey so Cappy can’t be that good.

For the next 3D Mario game, I want it to be an open world game that has all the items and perhaps all the major characters seen in past Mario games, and I also want the 3D game to go into all the lore of Super Mario by showing us the backstories of Mario and other major characters, including Peach and Bowser as well as why Bowser keeps kidnapping Peach or trying to take over the world over and over again. I also want to learn about who their parents/families were and what Bowser's species is and what happened to them all. I even want to learn about the relationship the Mario RPGs and other Spinoff Subseries have with the mainline Mario series, that way, we can learn who created the book containing the Paper Mario world and why King Boo from Luigi's Mansion is different from the King Boo seen in other Mario games

I really hope the next 3D Mario game doesn't use Cappy as the main ability because the moment you learn advanced Cappy dive techniques, the rest of the game's progression gets broken because you can just go off the main path, and skip past what the game is trying to teach you. I think Mario should have something similar to the spin ability from Super Mario Galaxy since it does not give the player so much power that it makes most powerups obsolete. It would be cool if Cappy makes a return in one of the areas specifically designed around platforming with Cappy, but I don't think the entire game should be designed around it. And please no skill trees in a 3D Mario game because permanent upgrades to movement abilities means the player needs to constantly adjust to the new jump height and distance on every upgrade, and it makes getting collectibles on earlier levels trivial.

The 3D Mario has mentioned in interviews that they think it's important to have some kind of jump extension ability in 3D. That way if you make a mistake because of the added complexity in 3D movement, you have an opportunity to correct it. So there's certainly going to be something, but the spin jump in Galaxy counts as something like that.

Maybe is because they designed the game to be played with a single joycon (for co-op) so button combinations + motion controls are too similar for drastically different moves. Mario Galaxy or 3D World were designed with Wii remotes in mind but with mutch simpler movement, so I didn't had any problems with them. I really like watching Mario Odyssey videos but don't even want to touch the game myself

Maybe. I probably would miss Cappy in the next Mario game if Nintendo decides to replace him in favor of a better brand-new companion/sidekick to Mario. We'll have to see what Nintendo's next big Mario game will be IF you folks would be soo kind to WAIT PATIENTLY to what Nintendo will say about the next potential Mario game in the foreseeable future.

To be fair, you can't really blame people for getting annoyed waiting so long when Odyssey is 6.5 years old at this point. Bowser's Fury doesn't count as it's a short game.

Still think 64 has the best move set. Many of the other games have gimmicks that take away from Mario’s core movement and have the player be over reliant on whatever that may be. Cappy and Fludd are fine but there’s nothing quite like using Mario’s movement more efficiently and developing your skills over time. I guess it all depends on how they design the levels of the next game, but I hope they have a system that’s easy to pick up and difficult to master with a heavy focus on momentum.

The 100% completion image for Odyssey shows Mario wearing his hat with Cappy appearing as a separate entity. So it's safe to assume Mario just got a new cap off screen.
