Nintendo's Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition Sale Was a DISASTER! 

Nintendo is stuck in the early 2010s on a multitude of issues

You’re not being dramatic. This was such a disaster and infuriating from a consumer standpoint, especially because the site was just down with no communication for half a day. Which, were we supposed to wait around all day refreshing or checking a page? Insane.

It's a slap in the face for Americans especially when you realise meanwhile Australians were able to conveniently preorder for the whole day without any issues, they only sold out after midnight and more than 12 hours had passed giving everyone a fair chance

I think the reason Nintendo is selling the collector’s edition themselves is because the game itself and the art book + steelbook are shipping at different times. The game will be shipped on release day but the rest won’t come until September. It’s fine print on the website and it’s likely this way because the release date got moved up. Coordinating that with other retailers would lead to disaster. Not sure how that’ll work with scalpers who have to wait until September for all the items 💀 Really unacceptable that Nintendo couldn’t get the website working properly for this. Hopefully there won’t be issues when preorders go live again. They know the demand is high

Nintendo Really overestimated their servers limits, they learned the hard way from crash & flood, And started a great war over a XC3 special edition. Xenoblade & Nintendo Fans vs Scalpers.

After two months of constant Nintendo pings on Twitter when trying to go in blind and only a 24 hour notice to prepare, I was there for the full 10.5 hours and it was a huge nightmare. Wasted an entire day on this nonsense. It’s honestly more infuriating than anything else that it took so long to get a proper update. I could’ve actually been productive, dammit. This is unacceptable on so many levels when they had so much time to prepare and it could’ve been so easily avoided…

As soon as I saw it was My Nintendo exclusive, I knew the website was gonna crash and nobody was gonna get an order. Feels like I know more about Nintendos audience than Nintendo sometimes.

They keep making these limited editions, then 80-90% of the sales are to scalpers. Why can’t they just announce that they’ll continue to stock the item until sales fall off, then the scalpers won’t bother and everyone who wants one can get it.

This should never have been limited to the My Nintendo Store.

I've got to be honest, I didn't realize how popular Xenoblade Chronicles is. I mean, sure I have the first two games but I wouldn't have expected this to equal Mario, Pokemon, Zelda and crash the servers, you know? It's always felt like a just below Metroid kind of game franchise to me.

Scalpers go after items that started trending and sad to say they will now keep their eyes out in the Xenoblade games thanks to Nintendo stupidly. A special edition preorder should be from a starting date to an end date. if you didn't get one within that time limit you're out of luck. Toy companies have started doing that for a while, some shoe companies, and heck other game companies do that.

Yeah, this wasn't fun. Wasted an entire day. I Was there before they even tweeted it was open, left with nothing. My biggest frustration is that I actually managed to get to my cart to pay at one point. The only problem? I had 2 copies in the cart. I tried to bring it down to 1, but the site was in such a shitty state that it wouldn't remove the second copy no matter what. So I took a gamble and refreshed the page to hopefully fix that. Got hit with another waiting room that I stared at until they took it all down. Fucking lovely.

I'm not a collector type, never ever had any collectors editor before, but I feel the rage of everyone who gets problems with it, I would be surprise if Nintendo was actually able to hold everyone online tho

This feels similar to when characters like Cloud was announced for Smash. There was a clog that lasted for hours if not days related to downloading him to all those Wii U's. I get he wasn't "rare", but again the demand for him on the platform was MASSIVE! Also, f the scalpers.

Sooo Europe did not have this problem on June 8th... because we didnt get a preorder at all... check this: At first it would be around July that we could get the opportunity. It got pdelayed. THEN because of another delay they seperated the game and the items of the special edition, so you could buy the game and get the special stuff later. Everyone could apply their email to get a notification when we could preorder. Three months after this debacle and today out of nowhere EVERYONE (not just the people that left their mail) got told you could preorder. And guess what: the exact same thing happened. The store closed down because of high traffic. None of my friends could preorder. Hours later of refreshing i nearlh got it but at the checkout it went blank again. They had three months to prepare, they knew how many people sent their email so they could preorder, and STILL they failed. Nintendo just cant get it right.

4:57 I'm pretty sure they disabled the ability to add it to your wishlist. I've tried many, many times yesterday and today (no, i don't think it'll work now to buy it, but I'd like to have it in my wishlist, y'know?), and about a second after the heart turns red, it just empties again. it's the only item in the store that I've seen that happen with.

I really think that Nintendo should’ve put the special edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on all major retailers. That way, people will be able to pre-order it easily. The scalpers will try to find a way to buy all of the inventory of the special editions of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I do hope that people will be able to get it easily.

I'm one of the lucky few that managed to get one, but holy shit I didn't even feel relieved, I just felt angry. I was refreshing that fucking page for 6 AND A HALF HOURS!

I missed the whole thing in the first place. OF COURSE it was in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday, when I was at work. Thanks Nintendo. Now I'm paying extra close attention, keeping the store page open on my phone as well, but it wouldn't surprise me if I miss it the second time around, assuming it's in the MIDDLE OF THE GODDAMN WEEK again.

Well... I could'nt buy it anyway because i live in Brazil, and Nintendo don't give a shit about my country. But its really sad that's happening. As a Xenoblade fan, i really wanted to buy this Special Edition, so i can imagine the frustration. But... im quite surprised, i never imagined that a franchise as Xenoblade which have less fans than Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon, would eventually crash the Nintendo Shop. This shows the love for the franchise that Xenoblade fans have, that's for sure.

i have the other two collector's and I will be pretty frustrated if I can't get this one. I didn't need to rush to get either of the previous ones so this is stupid

Definitely a frustrating day. I just happened to be looking at the site when it went live, & I actually got it added to my cart, or so I thought. When I clicked on my cart, showing one item, it said it was empty. Then I got the red screen for a few hours, then maintenance for a few hours, then the red screen, then maintenance, then, at around 7pm, Wario! & the Wishlist trick didn't work. I didn't know about that til I watched the video, but I couldn't ever add it to my Wishlist. I clicked the heart several times, & every time, it turned red for a second, then reverted back.

Who’s here now that this exact same thing has happened twice?

Hour four of attempt 2 and I'm seeing tweets saying it's showing up as sold out, we're still stuck in waiting room limbo despite being there within a few seconds of it going up. Unsurprising, but I'm still angry. Edit; After 5 hours I was able to get my copy, still says "processing" though so I might get a nasty surprise at some point. Honestly, I'm not even sure it'll be remotely worth it.

I swear Nintendo loves to feed the scalping community.

Shouldnt Nintendo go after scalpers and force them to not mark up their product or face legal action? I dont know the legalities of it all but I feel like if scalpers could legally not do what they do they wouldnt do it

Man I still remember accidentally stumbling on a xenoblade 2 collectors edition at A GameStop way off in another state, and every time I’ve tried to find other CE, it’s been a pain.

Another here that was one of the many that failed to get it. Got the notice within the minute it went up, had it in cart, but the being signed out stuff happened, and thus the hours of being queues began. Miraculously, around 5'ish EST, when reports were finally coming out that some were succeeding, I was out of the queue and at checkout, but after I put in my address, I couldn't get shipping options because it was removed from my cart somehow. Thrown back into the queue until the "We're doing this another day" tweet. In a Discord with at least 30 of us trying, only 1 NA member succeeded while another in Australia got it without issue. Just a terrible experience, but I will try again next wave.

I kinda have a theory a pretty basic one but a theory Nintendo has been revamping their online store and I think they got cocky thinking they were improving their online relations because and figured since xenoblade is still niche (sorry everybody) they probably thought that they didn't need to have a large initial production given that they probably forgot about the past special editions I know I did Now when I say all that I'm definitely trying to he in Nintendo's head this was kinda stupid

I'm assuming that based on the release schedule, production on these things are locked in, but they also didn't have any qualms about shipping this shit separately. They should just sell the book standalone, with the box.

The only good thing to say about the Australian side after getting no info from a nintendo rep was checking for it after finding out the NA one went up, seeing an Australian news article linking to it. and bam, click click mine, don't worry I'm sure I'll see 50 spoilers by the time Australia post gets it to my door though and it'll come heavily damaged in the mail.

If Nintendo is so determined to keep it on the my nintendo store, They should make it open preorders for a week or two. Many may not get the game on release date if they cannot make enough by then, but at least everyone wins

Funny thing is I had the special edition on my wishlist and when I was checking for the time to purchase my entire list was it later did come back but by that time it was too late 🤦🏾‍♂️

Honestly unless it’s something like Zelda or Metroid, I personally don’t care about special editions. Having said that as someone who really wanted the Majoras Mask 3DS XL and was forced to buy from a scalper because it was so hard to get, my heart goes out to Xenoblade fans here.

Coming back after purchasing the Bayonetta 3 collectors edition yesterday. Super easy. Hopped on Amazon and bought it with no issues. Glad that they put it up on multiple platforms as it made it waaayyy easier to get before they sold out.

Luckily for me this only seemed to be an issue for North America, everything went pretty smoothly in Australia and the rest of Oceania. Really sucks that this was a massive disaster in NA though.

The good thing is Nintendo will release more! On another note my work around was putting a different item in my cart and reloading the cart tab. I luckily got a copy

Listening to this while waiting in the second attempt at special edition preordering. Been queued for about forty/fifty minutes. EDIT: And now that I'm in, the cart bug is back. Says 'Item Limit Reached' on the product page, but then there is nothing compatible for checkout. EDIT 2: And now there's a waiting room just to check the cart? Marvelous.

How many times is Nintendo gonna try and be cute about this limited quantities bullshit? They do this EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. That’s why they’ve been relegated to being the side bitch of gaming. If online is going to be the only method to get a special edition then, A; limit it to ONE COPY not two, and B; mark a personalized system maybe by, you know, checking who put in up towards 100 plus hours in to the Specific Franchise and ask if they are interested in a Special Edition copy.

I was there for June 8th, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm probably not going to buy the SE now. It's just not worth the hassle to deal with Nintendo. I don't own SE editions of the XC2 or XC:DE so it's not like I'm missing out on "completing the set". I just wanna play the game.

Why not allowing preorders for a week, a bit before production and then they can launch the production knowing how many people bought it. Better than limited amount.

I wanted to buy the special edition today to see that the special edition was currently out of stock. And also the other issue is scalpers trying to sell the game for higher prices. And I thought the game would still be available today. But I guess the special edition sold out on the first day since yesterday. What should I do? Will it be possible to buy it in a few weeks before release? I feel like a lot of people still wanna buy it that didn’t get the chance yesterday.

The Aussie store was easy. No queue. No lag. No payment issues. Just a simple two minute preorder. I think it's still up too.
