My cousin who is a Sony fanboy saw me watching a news video for the switch and he said to me "oh is that the Nintendo switch" which left me a bit speechless cuz he doesn't talk about anything other than the PS4. Than I asked him on how he knew about the switch and said "I saw an ad on youtube, I think its "INTERESTING", which left me even more speechless cuz before that I told my sister about the switch being a handheld and a console and she said pretty much the same thing. I also told her about the graphics being 1080p and she said that's the same as the Xbox 1 (which we have, she likes shooting game. Yea the girl is hardcore XD). So my point being my sister a xbox user, my cousin a PS user both found the switch interesting and didn't care about the graphics, my cousin saw game play and he liked how it looked, which leaves me wondering are graphics really going to even matter on the switch?

Flad Mast , I felt the same way, but I've been thinking. Making mobile games brings in more revenue, and allows for a wider audience. This doesn't mean they're slowing down with consoles by any means. As for paid online... every other console has it... but the switch has it for cheaper, and that money means the online experience will likely be better than the services hosted for Wii/Wii u/3DS. I don't think we should get super worried, but we also shouldn't give our hopes up.

I still think the Wii U was a good console for its time. Shame it didn't catch like how the Wii did. But hey, there's ups and there's downs. The Switch is certainly going to be Nintendo's next up.

Kane Clarke if the Wii U was released 5 years earlier then yes... it would be good for the time..... I mean the Wii U is 720p while the PS3 and Xbox 360 were already 720p and now it is the Wii U that is no longer in production due to the failure we know how bad it was for the time.... When it comes to what the Wii U attempted to compete with more HD systems and now it is 4K 30fps Xbox One S vs. 4K 30-60fps PS4 Pro vs the upcoming 4K 60fps Xbox project Scorpio vs the Wii U with 720p 30fps... (just less than 10 years behind the other companies) So with all of that... not the Wii U wasn't good for it's time... it was literally a generation behind.... But Nintendo Switch is a half Generation behind at launch... but it does have the advantage of having portability!!!!

I think it's funny how people think it's going to failand how there are people saying "I won't pre-order it" or "I won't buy it at launch". The fact of the matter is, you CAN'T Pre-Order it because all of the pre-orders are sold out. It'll be sold out at Launch as well, so you can't get it then either. With that much demand and popularity, I think it's safe to say that the Switch is going to be a success.

AS long as people don't compare the Switch to the PS4(pro) and XboxOne (Scorpio) it's really cool. I'm really looking forward to the Switch because I've got my PC for hardcore gaming, but I *really* want some nintendo exclusives, gaming on the go (with quality... not that mobile shit that's so hot currently for some reason) and party games/system links for parties and stuff.

Kind Old Raven There can be good mobile games, but most are riddled with microtransactions or totally waste battery. I enjoy Clash Royale and NBA Live, but Clash is Pay to win and NBA drains so much of my battery, which is why I'm looking forward to the switch, with console quality mobile games.

I remember the advertising for the Wii U well. Back when I still watched TV a lot, I couldn't escape those commercials. However, I never really thought of it as an add on for the Wii, nor was I aware that anyone thought that until seeing a video mention that. When seeing the first Wii U trailer, I thought it was a portable system because they didn't show the system. I actually guessed correctly with it using the Wiimote as far as I remember. I watched that a while ago, and it was a pretty big nostalgia trip despite only it being 5 or 6 years old (it was probably because I haven't watched it for so long). I would like to mention that it looked way different in the trailer than it did in real life (It even had 3DS circle pads instead of real analog sticks). I also remember all of the kiddy commercials that aired, especially in the later parts of it's life. I never minded, since Nintendo is known for being family friendly. I also didn't know kids didn't care about it. I hope that changes, but it wouldn't matter at this point because Nintendo isn't marketing to them anymore.

I liked the game industry alot back when the Wii U released, back then I got on IGN probably a couple of times a day. Still, the Wii U launched and I had no idea. I don't remember it happening. I didn't know the Wii U was out for a MONTH, and that was when I went into a Gamestop. I just saw all these Wii U games (the launch day had a bunch of games) that I didn't really have time to research. After that happened, I said "Well shit, they are talking about the Xbox 720 and PS4, I might as well wait for those." And I skipped it. Skip ahead 5 years, and I'm trying to pre order (but cant) the Switch. It makes a huge difference.

I managed to get my pre-order recently as pre-orders opened back up on the UK Amazon store, I never got the Wii U, the only thing I am begging Nintendo to do is have 3rd Party support. Skyrim is a good push for this direction. I just hope they continue.

The average gamer is an adult and I feel with the original Wii and partly with WiiU, Nintendo largely ignored or oversaw this fact. Sure, kids are the future generation of gamers and they certainly should not be ignored. I want them to experience the magic I did as a child with the original NES, SNES and N64. But adults are still actively pursuing adult oriented entertainment and Nintendo should have continued to be at the forefront. I wish them luck with the Switch and hope they know what they are doing.

Marketing has been on point. I think they've been playing it right. Ultimately all it comes down to is 3rd party support. The WiiU proved that only around 10million people are willing to buy a "Nintendo games only" console (including me).

The Wii U's marketing confused people, and was practically nonexistent after the first year. This is what I believe started the console's downward spiral. With the Switch, it's clear, it's concise, we know what it is, and they've shown to be aggressive with it already by advertising during the Super Bowl. So yes, the Switch is already being marketed much better than the Wii U ever was.

At my school, I asked several people (My group being at about adolescence) "Are you considering getting a Nintendo Switch?" About 95% of people said "I don't know what that is." Maybe it's because no ads are on TV for it yet, but my school is a very Meme-y internetty school, and I'm quite surprised that no one knows what it is. Also, everyone who DID know what it was dismissed it because A. "There are no games! B. "It's cartridge based, it's gonna be TERRIBLE!" C. "So what it got 2 mil + preorders? It's gonna immediately flop afterward with its lack of games!" D. "Getting 4 sets of controllers is buying another Switch!" And one of my friends said this kind of stuff, and he's a Nintendo supporter.

In all of the trailers for the Wii U, everyone is using the game pad with excellent touch screen controls. Now the only thing the screen on the Wii U does is display the game that's on the TV. The best use of the game pad in my opinion was Pikmin 3, Splatoon, Wind Waker HD, and Twilight Princess HD.

Ever since Nintendo entered the home console market in the 80s, undersupplying has always been a staple in their business model. (For instance: only delivering parts of retailer's orders.) Or in layman's terms: "Always leave them hungry for more." This was basically their answer to the 1983 video game crash, which was reaction against an oversaturated market (and many poor quality products). So I'm pretty convinced that the low amounts of Switches or Nintendo Classics that are/were available for pre-order have nothing to lack of production facilities.

Nintendo have definitely marketed the Switch getter than the Wii U. I completely agreed with your assessment of the problems with the Wii U advertising and I think even the company itself has basically conceded that a lot of consumers were likely to have thought the Gamepad as an accessory for the Wii. While Nintendo have still not been perfect with their messaging thus far with the Switch, most would have to agree that the initial console introduction and their Superbowl videos have been a great success! I swear never even knew the Wii U existed until the switch was just beginning to roll out (2016).... I had the original Wii, every gameboy created, NDS, and SNES. How did this not get through to MEEE of all people

I played like 5 or 6 games on the Wii U. I played and enjoyed them, but then there were no other than 6 games that appealed to me. So I mainly used the Wii U for Crunchyroll, Netflix, and RU-vid. Oh and I used it to give to kids when they come over so that it can keep them busy while I played my PS4 in the other room lmao.

my girlfriend is not into video games and she's never seen a switch commercial until tonight at the superbowl, i pointed out to her that it was the new nintendo system she said " that's for kids to have them sit down in the back of the car"....That got me thinking that Nintendo failed at marketing this at the more adult audience, the impression she got from the superbowl commercial was that it was a Tablet for kids.

I feel like the only way this system can disappoint me is if I open that box, hook it all up, and it doesn't switch from console to handheld. That was the only information to be excited enough to pre-order the system and I honestly can't wait! 26 more days!

My parents in 2013 when I asked for a wii u: “Were not buying a $300 add on, you already have the wii” like 8 year old me *Creates presentation for why we should get the wii u*..... I saw the commercials of were the kids did that and thought it was very realistic lmao

All I can say is; wait until GameFreak and the Pokemon company bring out the Switch Pokemon game (which has been confirmed to be in production). Finally, a main title, core Pokemon game on a home console. Considering how much Pokemon Sun and Moon helped 3DS sales, I think the Switch will do relatively well just with Pokemon alone.

I have a switch preordered but I am constantly thinking about cancelling it and a lot of that comes back to trust issues with nintendo. For years now they have been lying to their fans, ignoring their customers' complaints, releasing unfinished or prototype level hardware at launch only to release the real version later and neglecting or mishandling some of their franchises. The other reasons have to do with the pricing of everything related to it and the fact that you can't change the battery yourself. Right now the only reason I haven't cancelled my preorder is because I know I can flip it after release and make money or shelve it after I finish playing Zelda and Bomberman and wait for hackers to crack it and turn it into an ultimate emulation machine that plays nintendo only games.

I do agree that the marketing is much better, this could help the system a lot. Regarding your question, I don´t have plans to buy the switch yet because I don´t buy consoles when they are just new(prices, games, etc). For me to buy a switch, it would take a couple of games to be released. More 3D mario games(like odyssey), more RPGs like Paper Mario or a Pokemon console game(like Colloseum), franchises like Mario Party, Mario Kart, Smash bros, Pikmin. In general just more games, maybe two years from now it will have a lineup that I would consider dipping into since each console is an investment.

Having a dock that does more than just a hdmi output. They should have graphics cards in those things (maybe they do) to beef up the specs to base ps4 and Xbone standard. They already have a usb-c on them that have enough bandwidth to do this. Might as well use it.

I never got confused with a new system and a Wii add-on, but that's because I never saw this first trailer. Now that I see it, I can see why people got confused. I am glad Nintendo isn't using the same name.
