ET5 EU version has different damper setting, and it is really great one. For audience's curiosity, NIO's R&D centre is based in Shanghai, and has a second development team in Hefei. The exterior and interior are designed in Germany. All other subsystems are designed, developed, tuned and calibrated in China by Chinese team. In ET5 case, NIO Hefei leads the project and NIO Shanghai was working together with them.

@@deoczidGONI Car Software for EU is a different software than the chinese one. Development center for EU is mostly in Germany. They know about the problems and are very active. Thats the reason why the car feels not like it has been on the streets for years (like it has been in china), but more like a very new pice of software. They update on a nearly monthly basis.

I'm not from the Ad/Adas team, what I can say NIO built a european team to localize the performance like Ad/Adas. In terms of the performance of it, the fota will improve it with updates. Normally the EU update is slightly behind CN update.

You are getting it wrong. NIO won't recycle their battery packs before they run out of their life cycle. Wouldn't make any economical sense.

Yesterday I also tried the et5 and noticed the ping-pong movement when being in autopilot. I spoke with nio, and they told me they would be fixing it in of the next software updates.

@@OldschoolWarfare indeed, the LCC has been massively improved in the 1.3.6 (from barely usable to really good assistance). Now I am on the 2.0.0 already. There were many features added and improved. Example of new features in the category driver assistance: remote parking assistant. Improved features: Navigate On Pilot.

I'm wondering if the only range estimation in the car is in WLTP, or is it possible to get a "projected range" estimate based on your previous driving? WLTP range is useless and complete bullshit. Should only be used on spec sheets in showrooms.

@@OldschoolWarfare I am based in Shanghai. So I don’t know what is the current SW version on EU vehicles. Just heard from some friend who test drove it recently in Germany the LCC was quite wobbling (like before 1.3.6 on my vehicle). In city driving I am around 16-17kWh by these temperatures. Highway driving const. 120kph probably more than 20kWh (didn’t do a precise experiment to get that value). For a drive from Shanghai to Hangzhou (180km) I got an average consumption below 20.

The EC7 and ES8 Gen 2 in China with new 100kwh battery are tested to have peak 249kw@33%, 195kw@52% 121kw@80%, 71kw@90% charging speed on supported charger. Rumors say only these two models with new generation battery can achieve this speed.

Tesla Model Y used to ping pong like that on Auto-pilot as well. They fixed it a couple years ago. I DO like the little Nio avatar though. That's pretty damn cool.

Yeah Tesla is a damn good car. But dealing with the service at least here in Norway is an absolute nightmare. They seem to not care at all for their customers nor do they fix the problem on the first visit. Also it seems teslas have a lot of problems, making the software and build cheap. I’m looking forward to owning a Es8 which I will have in a couple of weeks. Maybe you wanna test drive my 2023 es8 Bjørn? Keep up the great videos ✌️

In Germany the ET5 with 75 kWh battery is >8k EUR more expensive than a Model 3 LR. Better comfort and the option to swap the battery aside I personally think the M3 is still the way better choice. BTW, I really like this review format. As you said, it is like travelling together in the car for an 0.5 - 1 hour while you tell about you personal experience with the it. Also the comparisons with other EVs are very credible as you have driven almost all of them extensively over the years.

Usability of a Model 3 is also much better than a ET5. The NIO has no extra cargo space and the trunk volume is tiny.

You need to test Zeekr 001 and BYD Seal and then do a comparison between those two and Nio ET5, Tesla Model 3 and Xpeng P7 (updated version).

Thank you for your review and summary! As a shareholder I'm very glad to hear that you're very impressed with the ET5 :) I'm sure they are working hard to fix the Nio Pilot errors! Very happy to hear that it's on the top of the list of your favorites that you ever tested and you'd have a hard time picking between Model 3 and ET5 :) Nice that you figured out that BAAS is a good deal - Many people online seem to hate it, but it's clearly because they haven't done the math! Highly recommended by Bjørn!

Software software software!!! I drive a 2019 Volkswagen Passat and it might not be the most advanced car out there, but VW Travel Pilot is very refined and relaxing to use., with mellow adjustment of speed up or down and smooth left right adjusting. Nio's erratic left/right and speed up/down will drive me crazy.

Nio is the winner for me hands down. Their cars are similar prices to tesla but you get way way more bang for buck. And i think battery swapping is the only solution to the delay with range and charging time.

I assume the reason for different setting for suspension is that ET5 does not have air suspension or adaptive dampers. Like their bigger brothers. So there is nothing to change

A heavier car certainly will reduce the rate of acceleration. With the ET5 being about 400kg heavier is about 20% heavier. At the current rated of 3.8s for 0-100, if you reduce that by 20%, that comes down to about 3.04 seconds. I think that certainly can take out the Model 3 performance which is rated at 3.1s. But how often is that necessary on a daily driving? Almost never. In life, there is always give and take so if you want a loaded ET5, there is a trade off.

Great question. Likely it does impact power consumption. I think in theory it should be like a gasoline car, if you do stop and go more on the freeway, it will have higher power consumption.

I usually switch to eco mode and drive myself when going on long trips because of the modulation 😅🙈 I have no documentation that it works unfortunately, it just bugs me that they made the cruise so bad. I have an et7 but i assume its the same in the et5

The Subwoofer issue is a known software issue I heard from NIO. I had the exakt same problem when I tested it. I think it sends to much power to it and that makes it pivots.

Very nice car, much more refined than its main competitor (makes me think to Polestar 2 but with wider/roomier inside). But probably too complexe, overloaded with options (automatic doors...) and then prone to issues. I am not convinced with battery swap. I concur with other comments, the touring version is even nicer. Sad Tesla doesn't offer a sleek Model 3 Touring.

As a driver who owns both ET5 and ET7, I would say ET7 did much better on sound proofing and power efficiency, and slightly better in comfortness and acceleration. Hope that would help.

Keep in mind that you save the batterycost when buying the car... Then you realize the first 7 years of BaaS payment is a direct downpayment. Not that bad consider the 200kwh included is worth almost the same amount

When the "tax hole" with the 25% vat is fixed this car is just another ev. Here in Germany it is simply too expensive. If they really would want to win customers they have to attack on the price front but they dont want to do that. I also dislike that you have to choose to buy or rent the battery and renting for 200€ a month....

Swap = rent, this is simple to mentally accept for most because you didn’t buy the battery to begin with. Maybe there are also legality challenges if NIO “sold” you a car with battery then swapped it out with another, as it might allow them to be sued if you lost just 1km WLTP range. In China you can swap whether you bought the battery or not. Sure they are those who just can’t give up their “virgin batteries”, but once they’ve been on a long trip and experienced the swap there’s no coming back.

I think no one-pedal drive, dodgy auto-pilot, and access only to public superchargers and a couple of battery swap stations are big deal breakers. I’d much rather have a Model 3 and, if very concerned about ride, fit Ohlins comfort coilovers to it.

Nice car, however nowadays I'm looking at EVs to find what do they do better than Tesla. Where is the evolution/revolution. Theyve had 10 years to wait and see and do better. And if i cant see it, I'm not interested. I agree that's maybe not the best or even honest review. Wonder if anyone else experiences this..?

Tesla didn’t come up with concept of ev. Are you talking bout design? Look carefully et5 looks diff than tesla. Tesla model 3 looks like frog, et5 looks like shark

Too many "ifs" and "whens" to really say its a great EV, IMHO. It will be when they fix autopilot, if there are enough battery swap stations in your area or usual routes, if NIO expands swap stations fast enough to not hinder sales and turns profitable to make sustainable the Baas system in the long term, if you can live with annoying Nomi&bips (you cant turn everything off), when they improve sotfware, if you dont mind having a thirsty EV (its not only about range and charging/swapping stops, its also about cost over lifetime of several hundred thousand km). Dont get me wrong, every competitor is good news for the customer, specially if it brings innovations like baas but NIO requires faith and enjoying being an early adopter, kind of a bet. Also I find baas expensive, you pay ~50k for the car plus ~270eur/monthly with just two swaps included with the 100kWh battery (thats ~600-700km worth, from 90-10% in each battery swapped), each additional swap costs extra.

@@chiefrocka1363 ok if its AC home charging, not so good if its fast DC charging, NIO are the slowest among their competitors if they cant use battery swap.
