You guys may have experienced that after replacing the throttle body or even sometimes after removing the throttle body connector on Nissan vehicles, engine RPM would not be stable anymore and it will fluctuates up and down continuously, so you must perform the "Idle Air Volume Learning" in this case. I have seen some guys published some contents on this, but none of them provided the details so when you start doing the job, you see that it won't work. And also there are some tips and tricks to do this volume learning successfully which is explained in tis video. Enjoy and share it to your friends.

Oh my god, I had this fault a couple of weeks ago and I used 3 different scan tools and none of them could finish the re-learning procedure, so I had to ask another guy to come to the workshop and get the job done, he didn't also tell me what was the correct procedure. Now I see what I did wrong, I did the re-learning when AT was at Park, it took more than 10 min, then error. Thanks for this tip, next time I try this method that I'm sure will work. 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks for your feedback, I’m glad it was helpful. I had exactly same headaches when I wanted to do this for the first time. I was also trying to do that according to the workshop manual which tells you transmission must be on P or N, but never worked. So I tried it on D and it worked. I tried this because anytime I wanted to test throttle body, I had to put the AT on drive to get the accurate signal.

My car when I accelerate then rpm increasing normal but then decreasing slowly due to this when I changing gear 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 then press clutch rpm high for 1 or 2 sec ,it irritating

What's scan tool and model did you use to do the relearn for the Nissan. I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 I'm looking for a scanner that won't break the bank but I can do a relearn and check codes clear codes what scanner should I get thank you.

Hi there, my scan tool for doing this was Top Don Arti Mini, but I believe many other scan tools will do vary same job too.

Hi there, yes it’s possible to do this without scan tool as well, I believe I have sent the manual learning instructions in one of the comments. Even for manual learning, workshop manual asks for P or N position, but just in case if it doesn’t work, it might work on D position as I did in this video. Anyway, extra care must be taken into account when doing on D as car may move.

My Mini Cooper a r56 does this on cold starts for about 2 mins then idles perfect could this be the same problem do you think ? As it never used to do it until I had some work done and the throttle body had to come of I’ve had it checked by multiple mechanics and theve all said there’s no air leaks anywhere so could this be causing it do you think ?

Hi i am facing RPM issue with my 1.5 Duster petrol engine, initial start morning it goes 2000 RPM for 5 min always then it come normal, I have cleaned throttle body + sensor, spark plug still issue remais same. Can u suggest plz

Hi there, this high RPM could be for several reasons, the most simple one is your engine oil if it's not compatible with the recommended oil, if your check engine light is on, you need to follow up the fault code, sometime O2 Sensor can cause this. Also, I've had some cases like this with ECM problem but I would reset the ECM adaptive value first before replacement as it's expensive.

Yes, there is a procedure to do it manually but sometimes it does not work. Here is the procedure to do it manually: - Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. - Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds. - Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds. - Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds. - Fully press the accelerator pedal. - Fully release the accelerator pedal. - Wait 7 seconds, fully press the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and turned ON. - Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON. - Start engine and let it idle. - Wait 20 seconds. If manual learning does not work you have to do that with a scan tool.

I had an issue on my infiniti fx35 2007. My RPM goes to normal idle and in few minutes it will goes up to 1K. I already did the manual procedure on Park position but nothing happen. I don’t have a scan tool.

Hi there, even for doing this re-learning, both workshop manual and scan tool descriptions was to put the transmission on Park or Neutral and as you see in the video, I couldn't do the re-learning under those conditions so finally I found the solution to do the procedure when transmission was on Drive. I only tried the manual procedure on Park/Neutral when I didn't get the result from the scan tool at the first place, so when I fixed it with scan tool (with AT on Drive) I didn't check the manual procedure anymore. But here is what workshop manual says for the manual procedure: 1. Perform Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning. 2. Perform Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning. 3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. 4. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds. 5. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds. 6. Repeat the following procedure quickly five times within 5 seconds. - Fully depress the accelerator pedal. - Fully release the accelerator pedal. 7. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the MIL stops blinking and turned ON. 8. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON. 9. Start engine and let it idle. 10. Wait 20 seconds.

I had the engine RPM fluctuating (Surging between 1000 to 2000 RPM), so I fixed it by re-learning the throttle body idle air volume as explained in the video.

@@AutomotiveDiagnosis Okay I would try the throttle body. My car goes crazy in the morning (1000-2500 rpm). Maybe I would change map sensor also.
