Brilliant step by step guide, also handy to know the handbrake self adjusts after brake pad replacement, no one mentions this on the forums. For owners in the UK, Nissan dealer charge £96.23 for the set of genuine rear brake pads(Fronts are £72.85). Very expensive at £96, some alternatives from Euro Car Parts are Bosch for £43, Brembo for £46, and Pagid for £54.
Finally got around to doing this job. Was much easier than I expected and had no issues whatsoever with the electric handbrake. I rewound it as per the video and then used a normal caliper retracter to push the piston back in. Once done, I turned the ignition on and pressed the handbrake button. It took just a moment to calibrate and all was good...no errors or warnings. One thing I did find is that the audible warning tab on the brake pads are absolutely useless. The tab is on the inner pad, however the inner pad still had loads of pad left and so the warning never triggered. The outer pads were almost down to the metal so I just caught them in time.
SergeP Excellent video, I just used it to change my rear brake pads on my Renault KADJAR 1.5 DCI (2015). It is the same process and electriC brake both Nissan QQ and Renault KADJAR. We don't need any electronic case, just to proceed as the video and explanations and the result is well. I am a french guy and we don't find any french video for Kadjar model. Your video was my simple and great help. Thanks
Getting ready to do front and rear pads on my J11. I had done front pads before and hadn't thought of the added complexity of the rear breaks. So happy I watched this in advance. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make and share these videos.
@@balalkhan5398 I actually didn't do the rear pads in the end. When I took the front pads off, there was almost half the pad still left. The rear pads had even more, so I left them alone. I made a complaint to Nissan about the dealer trying to charge for work that was not required.
Don't do the rears yourself. Manually resetting the electronic handbrake ruins the calipers. We did this yesterday and now need new Nissan replacement calipers.
@@adamreturns1 Interesting. What failed on the original calipers that required them to be replaced? Did the mechanic actually show you the failed parts?
@@MrUnderwurlde Mr Nissan said the calipers were now useless as they were separated from the motors and manually adjusted. When plugged back in the computer sh*t itself and started flashing handbrake warning lights. He said the only thing to do now was install properly calibrated calipers and then the computer will allow a reset. I should have just booked it in to them for the pads change - £170 bill turned into £1290..
Excellent video, just replaced pads (and discs) on my 2016 QQ, your video was a great help. The only slight complication was that 1 of the activator retaining screws on the off side rounded out even using a well fitting T30, I managed, very carefully to cut a nick across the head so I could use a large flat blade screwdriver to remove then later replace the screw. Many thanks
Hey Alan, I am looking to do the same on my Nissan Quahqai 2016 model. Could you tell me if you had to do what is being done in the video at 7mins 6 secs and also what is he doing as i dont quite understand that step? thanks
Why? A 'professional' is only someone who has practised the job a number of times. Changing brake pads and rotors is something most vehicle owners should be able to do, considering its relative simplicity. Not a challenging job in the slightest.
Thank you. It's been a great help. 1.However, I wonder if the tool needed to move the kelp-cylinder back is a general or special tool. 2. And you really don't need a scanner?
Many thanks for useful video!!!!. Supper!!!! One personal question about Qashqai, for sure ))): Does you replace oil in front (and rear) differential? According to local (Ukrainian) website only inspection needed.
Hi, firstly, great video, really helpful. But i don't understand why are you taking off the electric parts and than you're using allen key. What it gives? Is it easier to screw in the pestle later? Or maybe it is enough to press it then and you don't need to screw in?
@@FixYOURride13 is the piston turning when pushing the piston back into the calliper with that special tool? And if one doesn’t have that particular tool your using? Could you use a large C clamp to push the piston back in?
Hi mate. Great video. As a mechanic, do you think the Nissan Qashqai is a good car. Mine is 2 years old now and I am debating whether to keep it or trade it. BTW, in Australia the J11 is only available in 2.0 petrol and I have a CVT auto. Any insight would be appreciated.
I have only done 9,000 kms. The car is 2 year old. I've only got 12 month more warranty left and am worried about the CVT. If I changed I was considering the Hyundai Tuscon. Also 2.0 litre but no CVT. In Australia, 95% of cars are auto. I'd like to know your thoughts about the reliability of the Qashqai vs the reliability of the Tuscon - from a mechanics point of view. ANy insight would be much appreciated.
Nowhere do I see you using a torque wrench to tighten any nuts/bolts. This is so very important to do correctly. Caliper, Caliper carrier and Wheel nuts all require to be torqued to the correct values!
Hi, I have Nissan X-Trail / Rouge and that car have the same Brake Systam as the Quaschqai and Renault Kadjar. Thank you very much for this video it ist very interasting und i try to change the Brakes at home. But i have one question. What Brake Fluid Nissan used ??? Dot 3 or 4? Best Regards from Germany. :-)
When u removed the electric motor at 7:20 it looks like you rotated the caliper piston clockwise and counter clock wise with the Torx driver. Can you confirm the direction it has to turn before removing the caliper please? Thanks
Hi, probably somting went wrong, disconnect battery for 2 minutes, connect back, ignition on, press brake pedal several times, hold and switch park brake on, next off, ignition off. If still will be flashing need plug in komputer for rest park brake system.
After replacing FRONT brake discs and pads, i am getting once in a while a "slip indicator" light on, red engine light, along with "CHASSIS CONTROL System fault" warning and a "SYSTEM fault" warning. Have i missed something?
@@FixYOURride13 Thanks for your answer. BUT what has the mechanic done wrong? really i can't think of anything neither does he. Is there any chance that he has damaged or misplaced the ABS/ESP sensor???
@@FixYOURride13 problem was solved by replacing the exhaust gas pressure pipe !!! Everything was caused becaused it was torn apart !!! Totally confusing errors triggering by an engine part rather than a wheel sensor 🤨🤨
Hi mate That way is not recommended way of doing the job . What about EHB system putting to Diagnostic mode for revising the motor back. Then after completing the job by putting back to normal operating mode is setting the brake pads to the brake disc .and deleting any faults from the driver of EHB module .
Hi, respect for your way, but all the conditions are done if you follow the recommendation. After replaced the pads pres brake pedal several times next use the Parking Brake system, all will be adjusted like should be. 👍
good video but would never use a grinder to clean the brake carrier as all you are doing is introducing bigger tolerances just use a wire brush to clean up
No grease on the caliper pins, ears or piston face? Brakes will squeal for sure. Don't suck clean fluid from the reservior, rather open the bleeder and let the overheated and rubber-contaminated fluid from the caliper out, instead of pushing that crap fluid back into the system.
You must never gun on alloy wheels and if you do gun setting must be low and once wheels are on the ground tighten wheels with wheel bar or torque up with torque wrench. And I've never seen or would recommend using a file on the brake caliper pad holder, the wire brush was good enough, i can only imagine someone over filing and destroying the caliper. other than that nice job man
@@FixYOURride13 Well I worked for ford's, I worked for vauxhall plus I was an M.o.t inspector but your probably right I have little experience what do I know.
Warning to all, do bit do this! We tried this with a friend's Qashqai J11 yesterday and changed the pads ok but the handbrake wouldn't reset. Long story short, Nissan have to fit 2 new rear calipers at a cost of almost £1300! You need the Nissan computer to reset the electronic handbrake. I'm gutted we followed this video.
@@lukewhiting2373 hi, chat with Adam (Post before) and recognise what you and Adam did wrong, other comments it's positive reply. Mayby you open drivers door and was automatically ignition on or something similar, I guess only.
@@lukewhiting2373 It's going to have to go to Nissan for that fix, mate. I tried various garages and their diagnostic computers and only Nissan could touch the brake module.
