Removing the VR38DETT engine from a Nissan GTR is usually performed with the aid of a car lift. However if you are wanting to do this at home or without a lift it can still be achieved.
There are plenty of videos documenting how to disconnect the engine from the car when removing an engine, and the procedure for this is still the same, the difference when removing the engine up out of the engine bay, is that you also need to remove the front chassis panel complete with radiators & intercoolers. As this can be removed as a single assembly it does not add much time to the job, but after this is removed the engine is free to be lifted out of the engine bay with just an engine crane.
There is room for it to come out even with down-pipes and bell-housing still attached.
This video is not meant to be a 'how to' but more for information, to let you know that the engine removal can be done using this alternative method.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the process or please share your experiences if you have performed an engine removal this way.

Thanks for this - I assumed it could be done through the front I’m upgrading my turbos and didn’t want to drag all my tools and take up my friends lift for weeks

I was the same (except my mate didn't want it on his lift for weeks 😂) The removal is quite straightforward. If you have any questions about it let me know 👍

When removing the engine from the car did you use an engine hoist? What mounting points did you use to pick the engine up?

Search for 10005-JF00A this is the Nissan "slinger" - brackets to use with a hoist. Most links will show where they bolt to the block. I made my own out of some flat bar.

Would you say easier doing it this way than removing from underneath with ramp? Am upgrading my intercooler and turbos still on 2 minds if do ramp method need to buy a ramp

If your doing IC's too then prob out the front. There's a few extra bits both ways. If you do the ramp you need to drop suspension and brake lines which you don't the other way. I've seen lots of videos using a ramp and I don't think there's much difference in terms of complexity. You won't need the motor on a stand so keeping it on subframe may be best..🤷‍♂️ I didn't have a choice of a ramp so was forced into this method, but it was not difficult.

Engine crane.

I have issues. Just took an hour to pick up and move my dressed 4l Inline 6 (with t5z manual) out the way in order to start moving the falcon with no sub frame or wheels off the lift to get the Skyline in the lift and start the process. Sadly, have to move two beds, three wiring looms (half incomplete grafted) and all the suspension and steering components from two more falcons just to get the falcon far enough forward to push the Nissan backwards. Oh. I did mention the falcon has no wheels or suspension right? 😂

How long would you say it took to remove the engine this way?
@ANTandTEC
@ANTandTEC 2 года назад
Difficult to say as I spent an hour here and there when I had time. I'd guess around 10hours. I don't think this way should add much more time, maybe another hour or so to strip the front.

@@ANTandTEC thats not too bad for the average person that dont have a lift and want to do it themselves. Nice how the front end comes apart alll together too. Nice job man!

Think I'll be trying to get the Nissan engine out the bottom. Just have too much stuff to get confused with removing front clip.. Hmm... Not sure... First things first, get up off this bed that's under the hoist
@ANTandTEC
@ANTandTEC Год назад
If I had a lift I would have gone out the bottom. I had no choice and was pleased it can come out either way.

@@ANTandTEC for sure... This car is my dead mates and he told me to take front off... But then, looking at it... Pretty sure bottom be okay ish without getting involved with the headlights. 😂
