Nissan Z vs Toyota Supra - This is the one I'd buy and why

its not cheap. Base will be atleast 40k, so probably more. Nissan themselves said this in regards to pricing. If you want an LSD which is needed with 400hp and a manual especially and all the other sport options, its going to add around 5k. Youre looking at atleast 45k for a car that does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The lsd, sport suspension, big brakes, dual exhaust, exterior body kit, and luxury features all come in one singular trim called the performance trim and it will cost ateast 4k. 0-60 is 4.5 because nissan themselves said it would beat the outgoing models 0-60 time by 15 percent. the outgoing model has a 5.2 second 0-60 time. There you go, 4.5 seconds for atleast 45k. Just get the 3.0 non premium supra that will have every feature minus the heated seats and HUD for 3-5k more for a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds (3/4 of a second quicker then the Z.) Given the fact that the hp number is very similar yet way slower, you can logically conclude the Z will weigh more then the supra too which means it will most likely handle worse. Also fun tidbit, the supra has more HP then the Z. Toyota (BMW) RATES the engine at 382hp, yes but when the 2021s are strapped to a dyno stock, they typically make 388 hp to the WHEELS and 390 torque to the WHEELS. That means at the crank after drivetrain loss, HP is OVER 400hp, most likely 420. And torque? Most likely 430. The Z will make 400 hp and 350 torque. The supra when dynod stock beats these numbers. Do your research bud!

The concept ft-1 is based on Proto shorter platform. Therefore it had more muscular, better look. When they asked BMW to make it, they just realized the chassis from z4 is longer. So, the design is weird because Zupr4 had to be stretched longer, like remolding the playdoh. That's the "oh shit" moment from Toyota. Now they're paying the price

Plus there's nothing wrong with the Z34 chassis and suspension geometry. The only downside was the engine and badonkadonk styling, same with the Z33, so I'm glad they listened to enthusiasts and only made necessary changes. As far as the stock touring car handling, that's easy enough to fix with some Nismo or SPL bushings.

And on a video made by carwow, a drag race between the stock automatic 2jz supra beat the 4 cylinder supra. Imagine losing to an older car same model as you and it was a 4 speed auto.

I've owned 2 BMW cars, normally I would have been all over the Supra but I still have memories of $750 for a broken fuel gauge.

While I understand the sentiment of not getting another manufacturer involved, the fundamental difference is that the new Zed is simply a redesign of the existing platform while the Supra was all-new. Toyota didn't, seemingly, have another option.

@@limewhite71 While I understand the point you are trying to make, the giant that is Toyota is surely capable of designing a car on their own. As good as the BMW base might be to drive, they have always been expensive to fix and hard to work on. The much taunted 'German engineering' is ofter over complicated and focused on a one-time assembly, not on how it might be worked on later. It's something that BMW might do well to learn from the Japanese manufacturers.

you got the blank canvas right... the Z looks like the design artist spent about 5 minutes carving it out of a block template before they held their proposal meeting. Jokes aside, the Z does look good, it's just a bit bland for my taste. That said, there's a balance to be had in design effort and its always better to go minimal than overdo it. A lot of cars these days are going bland/minimalist. Considering Nissan is has a habit of circling around the toilet, this is an intelligent move on their part.

@@touayaaj84 nah, dawg. Been a Toyota fanboy since forever. Owned a 1989 Supra and sold it to get an FRS when it came out. Then i traded the FRS for a new Avalon because i needed a daily driver and bought an RCF. Most i do on my weekend cars is just a light drop, wheels and exhaust. Test drove the new Supra and immediately hated the interior. Opened the hood and i get right away i was slapped by all the BMW parts and the fake vents make the car look ricey. It drives great. BMW makes great cars but this fanboy just couldn't handle the really heavy side of the German car. Sorry.

It’s mostly influencers who say that because they’re purists. Your average person looking for a sports car likely isn’t a purist.

This is true but the automakers could also make limited amounts of manuals for the real die hard enthusiasts. But im one of those who would still buy a Auto ZF 8 speed supra over a manual supra. With tht great of an auto trans, i freken love it when i drove it, overall ZF and DCT is great for cruising and dailying.

That’s because a lot of people don’t know how to drive a manual these days, but want one at the same time, but are to lazy to learn how to. For the small percentage of people that are die hard manual fans like myself and know how to drive a manual properly, will not hesitate to buy the Z in a manual only.

Most wives, and or girlfriends, can't drive stick. Many young guys today can't drive stick either. PS , I think having a manual adds another layer of theft security.

@@sly9263 I think they meant what they said originally. The Supra is far less impressive than the FT-1. The platform it's built on doesn't help the case, but at the end of the day the car just doesn't at all suit the nameplate of Supra. People don't care that a lot of the 400z recycles a lot of the 370z to keep costs down, because the car pays obvious homage to it's roots.

Given the chassis they started with, Toyota should have started with a clean sheet, maybe made a modern tribute to the GT 3000.

@@MuShinnen the platform's country of origin is the only reason that the car has really received any negativity. It has far less to do with the pipedream that the FT1 concept was. The FT1 would be awesome to see one day, but it'd be NSX/GTR pricing, which is not the Supra demographic. Oftentimes the most negative people are the loudest about their opinions (on the internet), but the Supra gets as much attention on the road as an exotic/supercar. Realistically, its just negative people hung up on intangible complaints over logic, which is why its pretty much unanimously praised among all objective car reviewers.

@@sly9263 It's literally not the only reason though. The comment section of this very video even points out several very valid reasons the new Supra is not a car some people desire. The new Supra isn't the supra demographic either as most die hard supra fans won't buy one for reasons already presented. I think you're overselling the Supra's presence a bit here. If I sit a Supra next to something like an Audi R8, a Honda NSX, Ferrari Roma, or a Lamborghini Aventador, the crowd isn't going to pool evenly to the Supra. It's very strange that you point out logic while also ignoring the logic of those complaining about the car. Nobody said the car was bad. They said it isn't a good Supra, and they are right. It is a great car performance wise, it's just not a Supra in the ways that matter. I won't argue looks as that's purely subjective.

Exactly, in person it looks great and driving it is quite fun. Hope to buy a Supra a year or two from now. Drove one through Turo and I fell in love. Good on Nissan for creating a new car and I like how it looks kinda retro-wavy.

B58 smooth but aggressive power delivery Some very well executed adaptive dampers Solid driving dynamics (likely will be superior to 400z) Better infotainment system Better interior styling Stunning stock exhaust sound (can’t comment on 400z in this regard just yet) Much better styling (personal preference) - more contemporary iteration of its predecessor that’s modern while still referencing linage.

Get a mid-ranged optioned Z, which will most likely be ~$45k (which comes with the LSD), and put $10-15k into it, which will get you bigger turbos, better suspension, flowing exhaust, tuning, wheels, tires, etc., and doing all this will put you at the base cost of a mid-ranged STOCK Supra lol. So while I’m sitting on a 600whp+ tracked out Z, you can enjoy your FULLY STOCK Supra 🤣

The Supra is just plain ugly!

Plus the curves and lines are ugly, especially around headlights and taillights. The design is not going to age well for the Zupr4, like Chris bangle's design.. not to mention the reliability after 4-5 years.

You're getting the same manual trans from the 370z into the nissan Z.. literally the same chassis as well. Which means it'll be bulletproof lol, but you'd have to test out the 9 speed auto.

@@officialdrippyx2245 MK4 fanboys hate this car, its a BMW and they will take every opportunity to remind you of that. It's low to the ground and you scrap at times you think you wouldn't. Wind buffeting is annoying at speed with windows down. Getting in and out the car takes finesse. Wheel alignment is key, the bump steer is real and will be startling when you are not expecting it. Its a fun car but its a fast car with a tune. Try not tailgate, again the car is low and windshields are expensive (already replaced one). Expect people to yell at you "Is that a Supra?!)

@@andersonbarros6653 I live in Toronto and if you know Toronto at rush hour.. its hell. I've owned a 370Z and currently an M4.. both had a three and two stage clutch.. 2 hours in bumper to bumper traffic.. I would drive these cars at least 3 times a week.. I just man up and drive.

Toyota Supra MK4 was always just a fanboy car. You need to modify it like hell to make it look good. Meanwhile at stock, it's slow, it's an ugly car. And just like the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Skyline R34 GTR, only grew inpopularity due to Fast and Furious. 12 year olds and F&F fanboys are the only ones that have it up on a pedestal.

I just don't get Toyota. If that's the case, why not putting their own engine. They already have 3.5 v6 supercharged in Mark X. Or even that V35A-FTS twin turbos from LS 500. That's 415hp easy. But they gave up their reliability to BMW... Smh, damn you Toyota for even putting Supra name just for cash grab!

@@lucky889s9 my guess is they got the main selling points of the supra completely wrong, i bet inline 6 was at the top along with "looks like the ft-1" and because they don't make any inline 6 anymore and the couldn't be bothered they went with the bmw, i dont think a supra would do well with a v6, they just dont sound good, but something like a v8 would be just fine. either way the supra name deserved better.

Mechanical lsd? I mean what other lsd is there for a car? Some are just controlled electronically. At least it's not torque vectoring by braking.

@@2010ngojo that’s what I mean, mechanical lsd, not tricks from the Ecu and abs system to control the wheel speed. Trust me, I have a Q50 Redsport, it works but it is not a true LSD.

If the new Supra is overstyled and a bit ugly then the Z is understyled and bland; it looks just like a dozen other cars with 5 minutes of effort spent in autocad. The Z isn't a bad looking car, it's just very simple and bland. Some people like that, some people don't. I can tell you that I get far more attention and questions in the MK5 Supra than I did in my C7 Z06 or in my GTR

Yeah that's it. They created a beautiful design (FT-1) for the wrong platform. They knew they had to use the Z4 as a base, so they should've created a design bespoke for it instead of adopting a well received concept. O

And Toyota didn't think about this in the first place? Should've have named it Supra, just obvious cash grab. Just wait until it's out of warranty, then the BMW real problems on durability and reliability Will show up..
